Did this mod to my 7.3... made engine run at 208-215... Replaced it with stock... 195... Now engine runs at 180-195 no trailer, and 203-210 w/trailer...
Agreed! Parking lot princesses will benefit maybe from this but if your working the truck cooler is better.
I briefly switched to the 203 thermostat on my 2000 (180,000 miles) and my next 2 oil reports came back with lots of metals in the oil. I went back to the 195 and the OA (200,000 miles) came back perfect again. Be cautious of doing stuff like this if you don't need to. FoMoCo put a 195 in there for a reason.
Could of it been the hotter temps burning off excess material or residue? I’m guessing with an additional oil change the metal levels would subside?
While you're at it, get the alternative hose that doesn't go through the middle of your belt. Way better design when you're on the side just trying to put on a new belt....
(It's why there's that hose shaped support under the alternator)
Yes I agree saw on amazon but not so good reviews with fitment
That upgraded top hose I had zero issues with fitment
@@williamreynolds5869 Yea, get the Motorcraft one, not a knockoff.
Hi I did mine with the same kit about 3 weeks ago here in Canada. I had a fairly big leak with the old pressed steel housing and had read about the higher temp thermostat to. I'm going to say anybody that does this should put a small amount of silicone gasket sealer on the flange . I had a very small leak after fitting the kit. It turns out my rebuilt water pump flange is not quite right with the new top fitted. I work as a mechanic and usually add sealant with gaskets in some applications to be sure. This one I didn't as it has the rubber ring seal and it bit me draining it and doing it again, I'm glad it was my truck not a customers. All I've noticed so far was today when it rained and the widows steamed up, the heater/ defrost is way hotter and faster working than it used to be which will be nice when we hit -30oc during the winter and really need it..
The other thing you will really love with your truck is changing a fan belt if it ever fails L.O.L . you have to drain coolant and remove that hose as it goes through the belt the way it's routed. It basically means you can't change it with just a wrench/new belt in a store parking lot or on the side of the road during a break down with belt failure. There is a longer updated hose that comes round the back of that belt and sits in that half moon shaped bracket under the alternator mounting bracket. My truck has it and it makes the belt change easy I still have an old belt and carry my tool box in the truck, as I use it for service work so I can change it if something happens while I'm out. Thanks for the time making the video, Take care.
I agree I almost bought other hose on amazon but some reviews said it fit badly
@@FixItNick When I replaced my update hose for a new one as a precaution while the system was drained. I got a good brand Gates hose from the local parts store, it was cheaper than I could by it online . Thats an achievement being in Canada where we get ripped off badly on lots of things compared to the USA. To be honest for $25 Canadian I was surprised it was a Gates brand hose.
All I would say is if i fit a new degas bottle while it's drained low, i would maybe cut a quarter to half inch of rubber off where it fits on the stat housing. The hose is tight against the left bottom edge of the alternator bracket before the semi circle support. My old one had a small mark in the same place it was over 10 years old and hadn't rubbed through I'd just do it as a precaution now, you probably know how luck runs sometimes .
I don't pay attention to reviews unless there is like 70 out of 100 bad ones ,there are a lot of guys aren't mechanics fixing stuff. they whine about something they don't really understand or research thats not a big problem to anybody else in the trades.
Great little mod! You’re right it’s the little mods that add up to great performance. Billet aluminum is definitely the way to go. Thanks for all you do making your videos! Always great informative content!
Thanks, trying to plan more mods
One time my grandpa had his truck in for service and he was loaned a 365,000 mile 7.3
When was this in 99?? Lol
About febuary 2019
I think you can change any part in your car because you have Ford company in your country also the parts cheap.here in my country its expensive.
Thank you very much your professional
👍👍👍👌
Hey Nick, just to remember. Is mandatory use of organic fluids on coolinng system when aliminum is present in parts, dont use inorganic with aliminum parts.
Cya
What’s organic fluids?? Lol
@@FixItNick Organic based coolant, Free of Silicate and Phosphate, coz they are very corrosive for aluminum.
Surprised you didn’t torque the bolts ?
I did upper and lower one on my early 99 and the lower one is leaking after 200 miles , dripping . Should have left it stock on the bottom one.
Great mods Nick any plans to put LEDs on your instrument cluster or updating radio with touchscreen head unit any how love the videos great content.
Thanks bro, I do want to swap to 8-12 dash, and other stuff will follow
I changed mine on my 96 Powerstroke and my exhaust smells better more power and another 1.5 miles per gallon
Also, your coolant is still green!!!!! You haven't added any SCA's with is a must have to prevent cylinder cavitation!!
What’s SCA,s???
@@DogDaze66 good ol purple stuff you pour into the coolant. High cylinders pressure in diesels causes bubbles to ford along the cylinder wall in the coolant and then they explode leading to cavitation. SCAs will coat the cylinder walls (in the coolant channels) and prevent the cylinder walls from being cavitatated.
@@DogDaze66- SCA = supplemental coolant additive, required for green coolant, sold by ford as OEM product... not sure what, if any aftermarket options there may be. OEM was not too expensive at my dealer a few years ago, maybe $8 a bottle and 3 or 4 needed. Probably more now though. Not sure the SCA is needed if the synthetic coolants are used. Hopefully some knowledgeable person will answer me...
Is that water in the radiator mine runs in about 130 is that because it’s stuck open
It should improve MPG. Let us know.
Nice video keep em coming
Thanks man
The stock is a 195 degree, generally for longevity you don't want your engine running that hot in the summer especially since that's getting pretty close to the boiling point. You need to remember when you read these Diesel sites that they're trying to get you to buy their product. If you're not gaining anything from a 203 why run your engine hotter and hurt it in the long run? Navistar designed the 1994.5-97 with a 203, they didn't design the 99+ that way.
Btw I love the channel, I'm not trying to be a hater just giving advice. I've had a 99 7.3 for 10 years now
My truck gets better mileage in the heat of the day when not pulling as a posed to cooler night time driving.
Hi Kenneth I totally agree with you, I live In Miami and I really don't want my engine running hotter. My 99.5 F350 almost has 400k, I believe this mod is better in cold climates. GREAT VIDEO Nick!
You need some tint on them windows
I agree lol
You should try it yourself get on tintmankits.com you can buy all the tint pre cut and you can get the tools needed to do it
Good video nick
Thx
You could of used silicon spray on the inside of the hose
Spit works well too lol
@@FixItNick lmfao rofl
Mine is frozen with rust all 3 bolts on the thermostat housing and suggestions?
Oh man that’s a tough one, spray with some penetrating lube let it sit for some time the. Spray some more, maybe let it soak for couple days
Nice truck. Do you tow a 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer
Thx man, not yet but will buy 5th wheel soon
Not to be stupid my truck is missing the cover you took off at the beginning of your video it covers the fuel bowl it says powerstroke diesel on it do you know the correct name for it maybe I can find a used one on Ebay
this is a year ago but its called fuel filter plastic cover lol part#Yc3Z6A949Aa
@@fireerik thank you
AND I HOPE THE TRUCK WILL LOVE ME A LONG TIME WHEN I CHANGE IT TO A NEW TRUCK KING RANCH VERSION, I WANT TO BUY IT???
Saved up enough cash yet??
Do you have to bleed cooling system after?
No It's a self bleeding system
👍👌
Thx
Please change the background noise/music! Ugh!!!!
