    Interesting that this song is being discovered by first time listeners. RUSH has never had a song hit the pop charts because the band was considered way too complex for pop. The only way anyone got to know RUSH is by tunning into the modern rock stations. This was a well played song just right before Nirvana came from out of nowhere and conquered the world. Another obscured RUSH song I would listen to (to all you first time listeners) is Superconductor. It's a plain simple jam song. A band like RUSH can make a plain simple song sound outstanding.

  • @Gary-zq9dr
    @Gary-zq9dr 2 года назад +1

    With these lyrics, Neil offers a pragmatic approach to the concept of love. One little change in either's timeline could have resulted in them not meeting or doing so under different circumstances. Very easily, each could have found love with someone else. In this case, love is not magic formed by destiny, fate, eternal love, astrology, religion, or any other mystical silliness. Yes, it is special, but not magic. It requires work, respect, admiration, desire, and all kinds of other emotions and compromises.

    So...songs by Rush having to do with LOVE...hmmm...you are right, they are less frequent than most other Rock bands. Rush is very cerebral but also with a lot of heart. But, their heart is for all of humankind; the heart they have for their wives and kids (none of them ever got divorced or messed around on their spouses) is pretty private. They don't want to use their song-craft making a lot of typical "gushy" love songs. But, they have made songs that deal with love and relationships. Here are some suggestions: "Panacea" (1975), "Tears" (1976), "Madrigal" (1977), "Different Strings" (1980), "Open Secrets" (1988), "Cold Fire" (1993), "Sweet Miracle" (2002) and "Halo Effect" (2012). If you want to hear a truly beautiful love song by Rush, listen to "Tears", from the 2112 album. You will be touched.

    It's an intellectuals approach to love which is perfect for Neil who wrote it. He's not called the professor for anything. This whole era has so many amazing songs the early 90s was a great time for Rush. Another relationship song they did was called cold fire and another beautiful one they did was called resist but do the acoustical live version of that one.

      Gina, I just wrote a whole paragraph ripping you to shreds because I didn't read your post carefully enough and I thought you were saying that "Coldfire" is another beautiful love song like "Ghost of a Chance". I never really thought of Cold fire as relationship song because it's a woman laying the groundwork for everything having to be in her favor, that she will not reciprocate equally and she will leave when she's tired of things. Neil said it's a song about a young naive man who doesn't understand women. I'm not saying all women are like this but the woman described in Cold fire is basically selfishness embodied.

    • @ginamarandino6451
      @ginamarandino6451 2 года назад

      @@salvatorediangelo453 hahaha you must read the whole thing! :-) I consider it the intellectuals approach to Love it's basically in my opinion how each party feels about love from a man's view and a woman's view and it really nails it from a psychological approach

    It's actually a sad and pessimistic song. "I believe there's a ghost of a chance to find someone to love and to make it last". In other words it is a long shot to not only find real love but to make it last after you do it. I relate to the song I was married for almost 23 years and the very person I trusted bailed on me. And I will probably die old alone if I'm if I actually make it to old age.
