Top 3 Simpsons cameos for me are 3. Dustin Hoffman as Mr Bergstrom, 2. Danny DeVito as Herb Powell, 1. James Woods as James Woods. 😅 He's technically playing himself but it's himself replacing Apu in the Kwik-E-Mart. He has a very small part but it's all gold, especially his interaction with Jimbo.
I went to a Don McLean concert and he didn't play American Pie. Thought he was saving it for the encore. Nope. He walked offstage... didn't come back on.
My favourite Simpsons cameo is Thomas Pynchon with a paper bag over his head, standing at the side of the road, saying “Hey, over here! Have your picture taken with a reclusive author!"
i love the tradition of an encore at a concert. and it's not always their best song; the black crowes are known for doing cover songs as encores, and they'll play some unexpected things. there's a small unspoken permission for an encore tune to be slightly less polished than the concert that preceded it, too, so sometimes it's riskier because it's understood to be an extra. a bonus. an encore.
My favourite Simsons cameo is Paul and Linda McCartney. Not only is it a great scene, but it was on McCartney's request that they made Lisa's switch to vegetarianism permanent, which in turn made the character more interesting.
As a long time amateur musician in a whole variety of different band styles including a concert band, I can tell you to never assume there will be demand for an encore :-)
There are many good reasons to move to 8k, at least for some of the footage. Looking into the future, having some of the events archived at 8k will be nice. On a more technical front, 8k (and 10k and 12k) allow the film editor far more flexibility when it comes to processing, even if the broadcast will be limited to 4k. For instance, with an 8k camera, you can cover a large amount of the stadium, but are able to zoom in during editing to a specific 4k-sized area without loosing quality. Also, if you are using lots of VFX, 8k gives you a lot more to play with - 12k even more so. Ask any Blackmagic 12k camera owner, and they will tell you it is all about the much better dynamic range, higher resolution, higher frame rates, and everything else you need to produce those perfect shots when broadcasting at 4k.
On encores, Jake Thackray was one performer who refused to play the encore game - he thought it was demeaning to treat his audience like performing seals. He generally followed his 2nd last song by saying ... "That was my last song - now here's another one." before walking off
The thing is it used to be a treat, an extra bit for those who hung around. Then it became expected, so (almost) everyone started doing it and instead of being extra, it's completely planned and as much a part of the show as the first song. While it's still great, it's lost the thing that made it special. I only know of Jake Thackery through Jon Richardson but I kinda respect him for doing something different.
For the 8K thing, it allows them to either crop in, but also you have a bayer filter on the sensor so you can get better colour accuracy if you record at a higher resolution and downsample.
True, but for people who want to know what 8K is (or what it may be, one day...)... essentially marketing shorthand. Going back to HD (for the past 15 years or so) that had 1920 pixels horizontally, by 1080 pixels vertically. When a bigger version was commercialised, at double resolution, (4 times the picture area...) 3840 x 2160 pixels, that became referred to as 4K or Ultra HD (UHD) (or the cinema projection version which is just a teensy bit wider 4096 x 2160. ) Cheating a bit to simply take the biggest number and use that... most recent cameras have been using 4K sensors for the last 5 years or so. However, 6k Cameras have been around for a couple of years, because they do give a better resolution for capture, and yes, can be cropped for broadcast (think golf, or wide shots of the full soccer pitch) In addition, 6K and 8K cameras have been in use for technical matters (e.g. special effects) where there is no broadcast obligation, as an intermediate level in production to source the highest pixel count possible at origin, then drop the resolution for the 'viewable' version (not only resolution, but subtlety of colours, and integrity of multi-layered composites e.g. in films with many layers of tweaks and nuances, CGI and suchlike. But 8K - some notional resolution of around 8,000 pixels horizontally - is aften used more in scanners than in cameras, principally to 'etch' a video original onto celluloid for archive and preservation purposes. The uses of 6K or 8K for internet broadcasting still outstrip the net's ability to carry so much data. Presumably, this will change, as they are already used for closed systems such as large screens at live events. Well, that was longer than it needed to be... just for fun, modern celluloid film has a notional resolution (because it's not made up of pixels) of around 20K-25 K (horizontally); the fovea of the human eye has a notional resolution of about 360K, (so foggeddaboudit) though that's not really how we see things, even when they're still and sharp and brightly lit,, we still piece them together from glimpses and memories. But that gives the resolution nerds something to aim for... above which, we couldn't tell the difference anyway.
En cours' Some certain bands I went to see in the Glasgow Apollo back in the day, would play 2 or 3 songs during their callback, which was more satisfying than coming back 2 or 3 times over 30 minutes which meant you missed the last bus home!!
I worked in a bar that was so busy no one ever needed the bathroom during shift but as soon as the last customer was out the door and our adrenaline dropped it was a mad dash for the toilets for everyone.
WRT encores, for classical concerts I think it's different. Firstly, it's never guaranteed you'll get an encore (although extra sheet music on the stands is a giveaway). Some performers will, and some wont, no matter how hard you clap. Also nobody knows what the encore that was played was. Everyone claps away but saying "what *was* that?" 😀
Anybody want to venture a guess, or offer up their own personal favorite cameo? Will have to say for me it's a toss-up between Donald Sutherland and Dustin Hoffman. Anyone else?
Really it's because DCI is 1.9:1, so for 16:9 it's slightly smaller so not really short changed. Also I've heard my monitors be called 2K when they're 2560x1440, so I'm getting good value
@@HjRobins see further up above. DCI HD is indeed above 4K horizontally. The marketing swizz started because the original designation of resolution (which you can still dial in on You Tube!) had much smaller frame sizes: 240, 320, 480 and 720 before 1080 got the HD nomenclature - all of these used the vertical pixels as a definition, so HD should have been called 1K. But it was better to go to 'FULL HD" then start talking about 4K (horizontal) when it's really only 2K (vertical). Ultra HD is a temporary shiny label which is already out of date (but of course, everyone's bought UHD TV sets now...). Ah well...
Michael Jackson was the only time a Simpsons cameo felt necessary and integral to the plot. It's clearly the best one and I don't know what Marina's huffing.
i disagree actually, I have a 24 inch PC screen I bought back in 2012? and watched WWE wrestlemania this year, some of the shots (entrances) were in 4k and I could definitely tell the difference. It looked awesome like the real people were a video game
I’ve got a question maybe you could answer…why did you change the thumbnail text from top 3 Simpsons cameos to most expensive sporting events? Would the mention of sports (maybe during the Olympics) get more views?
Always hated encores. Terrible. When I was a young starry eyed youth in a band my plan was to have a big sign at the end saying no encores as we walked off stage.
Re' musical acts having different big hits for gigs in different territories... Be prepared for disappointment if you expect the Lightning Seeds to play 'Three Lions' in Glasgow.
@@EastyyBlogspot The bit I always remember from that episode is the orchestra as Homer walks from the bar. Then it's followed by the 'DIE' and 'DIET' reveal. Brilliant.
I don't think it's OK to publish an *edited* podcast like this with an untrue statement that a well-known[*] person has died without a clarification inserted, or at the very least with a caption correcting the statement. I’m presuming that the choice of a camera angles was deliberate so that you can demonstrate what “crossing the line” means.
This new room camera angle makes Richard’s hand go from tiny to massive when he moves it and I can’t not see it
😂
And Marina looks even smaller compared to Richard for the same reason.
It's like those forced-perspective shots of Gandalf and the Hobbits, except in this case "Gandalf" actually IS bloody massive as well.
Al Michaels just lent his voice to the AI, he isnt dead.

Thanks for the heads up.
Just me that got freaked out when the camera changed and Marina switched sides?
I love this setup, the two shots look like behind the scenes footage of Lord of the Rings.
Hoffman episode is my fave ep ever!
I love a concert, if Ive cared enough to go out to see an artist I'll take as many encores as they want to give.
Leonard Nimoy also played himself in "The Springfield Files," the episode with Mulder and Scully.
Watched the opening ceremony in 2012 on a 3d tv live, mind blowing. Sadly didn't take of.
I can honestly say, hand on heart, I have never watched even one episode of the Simpsons.
I think Richard's quip turned out to be spot on. Marina mistook A small L for A capital I.

how come they broke the 180 degree rule

I'm here for Richard Osman's jokes! 😁
8k recording / shooting gives the capability to zoom in and still retain full HD (1080p) resolution for transmission
