Love the spinning. I have that same blade. Don’t like the sheath either. I will likely get an Azwelke kydex sheath. I am surprised at the slicing ability for a 1/4” thick blade.
I put scales which go further and follow down to the choil, so there is plenty of surface for your fingers to jam against. It is more comfortable when you stab into firm surfaces. There is around 1" of surface instead of the 1/4" blade. Plenty of surface for your pinky to jam into. Good blade for a soldier.
Bro. Get your hands on the Tops Longhorn Bowie as well. The Longhorn and the Prather are 2 of my favorite TOPS knives. It’s so good. I think you’ll love it.
Great review Don!!! Pulled the trigger on it. New sheath gonna be coming too but, I've heard the edges need a touch up, is that the case? What do you think?
Hey Donnie. Hope you're doing great, buddy. Great lookin' knife. To me; I ll take a Khukuri knife. For that all-around greatness. From combat to camping. Also, I agree with you on the sheath. I'll take a leather or Kydex too.
That is what I call a knife; a real does it all blade and well worth the money. A good friend of mine has a TOPS khukuri and that is a beast of a blade.
Hey Dbad, I would love to see how the big knives you review perform in a camp kitchen. I'm one of those that find it fun to to food prep with a big ole knife. But a lot of them are not a pleasure to use in that regards. Btw, you are now my favorite knife reviewer, so entertaining yet very informative👍
Donnie B All Day The Operator 7 is on the top of my head. Cold Steel Drop Forged Survivor peaks my interest too. I have the War bowie and it's an absolute pleasure to use when slicing fruits and veggies to share with my dog on the trail. I can't say that about my other big knives.
I also own this blade. This one is tough but really sharp that enables us to sharpen pencils. With this knife, I often go bush-crafting and completed tasks such as chopping, splitting and cooking with this single blade. Only one complainant is its sheath design and I don't like the velcros. I don't understand why TOPS didn't use buttons to hold the belt.
@@DonnieBAllDay ,that it is bro, yeah I know how you mean, I do love a good strong clip point, most of my hard use knives are drop points, like for utility use,liv3 my Gerber strong-arm an my coldsteel srk in cpm3v
Nice review as always Donnie. Can you tell me what do you think about Prather War Bowie in comparison to Ka-bar Big Brother from pure fighting/combat perspective? Thanx and greetings from Slovakia.
The Silent Hero is more versatile and comes with a better sheath. The BK is great in shape and comfort, but cheap plastic scales on a survival knife suck and so does the sheath.
My favorite fixed blade as of now is my dbad Preacher for reasons far beyond it's designer(me). Most sentimental is my Case XX Bowie. That knife changed my life. It took a long time before I ever owned one, but I loved them since I was a kid.
17:00 it doesn't chop well at all. A nice machete will only take 3 wacks to go through it. If not 2. The Prather looks nice though. Good looks. But the "Rocky Mountain Tread" doesn't look comfortable to hold on to me.
@@DonnieBAllDay Bowie's are nearly ever really good choppers, the lack of weight in the tip prevents this (just simple physics). But yes, it will do when in need. Just with a little patience. But if a beaver can do it with his teeth, taking down trees (!)😲. Then we should be able to get some work done with a Bowie. So, no hotspots with the tread? Me for example have already a huge dislike for the Rat 7/ ESEE 6 handle, the one that is flat with the sharp angled edges. That is zero handle comfort to me. A Becker BK7 2 or 9 have a nice comfortable handle. A bit short though. I lke my handles with round shapes. Not sharp angles sticking into my hand. The ESEE6 is awful to carve with, a Mora , any, outdoes it .Easily. The Scandinavians were not dumb. They knew knife handles and carving.
@@DonnieBAllDay Mmm ok, that's good to hear. But what about the Tops Pig Hunter, that grip can't be good in the hand. I'm nearly 100% positive about that. Sharp ridges at the egdes of the handles. That's a no no in my world. Mora's are not 'coolio' things for the 'have'(although I appreciate them a LOT) . They are the real deal worker knives. Like the Hultafors knives. Contruction workers etc. use these knives. They are extremely comfortable in the hand. Better than BRKT in my opinion. I had those, they were slick as an eel. I've had several of them. 250+ euro knives , that had the edge rolling like crazy when chopping a little pine wood. Madness I say. The handles of the Beckers might seem cheap, but in the end they are very durable and don't get discoloured like micarta does. And no hot spots.. Everything has its pros and cons. And I like Micarta, but it's not all perfect either. Nothing in this world is.. I do appreciate the upgrade with the micarta. I'm one of those idiots also. Haha. You gotta have a hobby.
@@DonnieBAllDay The Mora 731 and 748MG were better stabbers than the Fairbairn Sykes. About the same blade length.. The round handle of the F-S is completely lousy for edge alignment. The two Mora models are now discontinued. They weren't sold much . Unlike the shorter models. I like the Mora 711 a lot, thicker handle than the Companion, very comfortable.. 10 euro. What's not to like.. Many years ago there was a German magazine in which a comparison test was done with several knives, the 711 was in it, and also a BRKT, and some others. The 711 came out as the best knife. Low price doesn't mean(perse) low performance. This is sometimes forgotten by quite a few people. I'm not putting the BRKT down. D2.....hope the heat treat is spot on. Great edge retention but tendency to chip. Including chips the size of quarters if it hits something it don't like. Hope it's a Saber grind and not full flat or chips are more likely, as D2 favors support seemingly more so than many other steels.
