Guido started out as Lila Cheney's bodyguard. Sam had a crush on her in New Mutants Annual #1.
The way I understand it, Bob Harras was the one who pushed Chris and Weezie off the X-Books in favor of Jim Lee, Whilce Portacio, and Rob Liefeld. Byrne had returned to write Uncanny around that time too, I think it was at #281, but only lasted a few issues, then left again because he said he couldn't work with them. In the end, Harras catering to the "hot artists" didn't matter -- they abandoned Marvel a few months later anyway to go form Image.
@SamGuthrie1977 It's a shame how things went down. The X-Books were hot commodities before all that shenanigans. Though I am glad during that time, we got Fabian Nicieza, Scott Lobdell, and Larry Hama. They at least properly launched the X-Men forward while respecting what came before.
Thank you for the name reminder!
Need to read this one again. Cheers
It had just enough dark undertones and comedy to make it a fun read
