I don't claim to be an expert at anything and feel free to dissagree but I have several AR's, most from Bravo Company but one Colt and 2 PSA cheap bargian guns. What makes a top quality gun is the bolt carrier group and barrell mainly. My PSA's have mil-spec BCG's and 4150 CMV CHF FN barrels. Feel free to insult me but I'm just as happy with my PSA guns as any of the top dollar guns. I do not view PSA as low quality guns but guns that have not had their prices jacked up for maximum profits. I built a 16" midlength with 4150 CMV CHF FN barrel, mil spec BGC and improved trigger for $385 during one of their specials. This was roughly 1/3 of the price as other "high end" AR's and it shoots just as accurate with no malfunctions.
My view exactly. I have many high end ARs and now several PSA ARs with the FN CHF barrel. Great guns for a bargain. The only things I felt I had to change were the buffers and buffer springs. Couldn’t be happier.
I love my PSA dissipator, it was my first upper. I got mine back when they had the "freedom" line, the premium line which had a non CHF barrel made by FN (which is what I have) and the FN CHF version. I'm in the process of free floating it while keeping the front sight base. I'm just waiting for a sale on a Midwest Industries 12.625 inch Combat or G4 rail.
I ended up finding an 12.625" MI G4 rail for a steal and it ended up looking AWESOME! I'm really happy with the way it turned out and it was far more simple than notching a 16 inch and trying to hammer the taper pins in through the handguard, which I probably would have botched terribly.
I love my PSA dissipator i got it back during the 4rth of July sale it turned out to be the perfect retro rifle for me and i have personalized it all the way from stem to stern to fit me just the way i want it thank you PSA for this awesome gun !!
Love the long sight radius for using iron sights. Only makes sense for iron sights though. Another variation is the Kino configuration; a 12.5" barrel SBR with a carbine gas block and a mid length sight tower.
I threw the magpul handguard on mine with a surefire warcomp and I love it. I it just works and is simple. I threw the daniel defense fixed sight on the back and run a red dot and it has been great. for the price you can't beat this upper.
Would love to get a 20” pencil barrel version with the bayonet lug, and the fixed rifle stock. Saw one on PSA for 1,100 great prices for their clone builds, would be nice to have the disposable income for stuff like that.
Haven't shot mine yet, hopefully it works well especially with my last 3 guns from PSA having issues they have yet to fix. So frustrating, everything I bought 4 years ago from them have been unbelievably good.
@geoff_tac unfortunately I was so damn irritated I sold them as is just not to see them again. Other than a micro dagger that the iron sights are so far off the rear is drifted that it looks goofy as can be. You have to use a red dot for it.
Thanks for the review. I've read/heard that some of these are suffering from overgassing and canted front sights because they aren't the gas blocks that require more attention to alignment. PSA will fix them, but just something I've heard mentioned more than once. I noticed yours seemed overgassed in some of your shooting footage.
I have noticed using my Midwest indexing rod, that the canted sight upper, also suffers from a indexing problem. Leads me to believe the barrel index pin may have a misalignment.
Just got mine in the mail, looks great, only thing I noticed right away was the slop when mounted on a lower compared to other uppers, other wise seems like a decent upper for $220
I have two of these uppers from Palmetto. One has the ras hand guards and broomstick. The other I transferred the barrel assembly to an a2 upper. The lower has an a1 stock.
Delton makes a A2 Upper with 20" barrel in a 1/9 twist(for using 55gr with better accuracy) and they offer it in a govt and heavy profile barrel Also you can use a Magpul rifle length handguard to add some Mlok slots on a 2 piece upper for $40 Add an A2 stock and a Magpul grip and you've got cleaning kit storage and oil or battery compartment in the pistol grip Which is awesome if you want a rifle for the range or for a situation where you forget your cleaning kit Just my 2cents Also Anderson had a true dissipator with A2 stock and 16" barrel that's rifle length for $500-550 instead of a faux dissipator If you want the real deal or the bomb proof front sight block that's actually attached to the gas system
PSA dissipator is eh for me. I went with the Delton Dissipator that is a true rifle gas system on a 16" barrel. It had the A2 grips and flat top upper. I replaced the upper with PSA's M16A2 upper and the handguards with the PSA m16a1 triangle handguards. It's one of my favorite rifles. I use the car-15 stock. I love it. Thinking of doing a mini me build now with a 12.5 upper with a midlenght gas system. Would go great with my Mk18 Mod 0 build. Makes me think of the meme that says "Don't talk to me, my son or my son's son"
I was looking to throw this on my Anderson lower potentially as my second ar. Wanted to have something bare bones but still fun to have. I’m debating however, on buying this upper or the one Anderson makes (Anderson dissipator upper is out of stock atm)
These things haven't changed as much as the nerds think. It's a barrel, with a metal tube on top that taps the gas, sends it back, a simple cam action, and spring. Stocks and grips didn't turn it into some Judge Dredd Plasma Rifle in 40 Watt Range. It's the same 1950s design with coatings, stocks, grips, better steels and rifling. The nerds have too much time to nerd out on gear instead of shooting and getting more advanced training.
What does the cost of the grip in comparison to the optic have to do with anything? And if you're going for a more vertical grip, get one with some texture on the back of it.
"Overgassed?" A rifle length gas tube on a 16 inch barrel would have 1/2 the dwell time as a 20" barrel and hence, would be undergassed. This was the problem on the first dissipators so they had to bore larger holes in the FSB to allow more gasses to come back. Its not the ratio of gas tube length vs barrel length rather the difference in distance from the FSB to the end of the barrel to calculate dwell time. This is why the 10.3" barrels on AR's have to have a huge gas port because it's literally an inch from the FSB to the end of the barrel.
@@markwhite6782 PSA clearly states on their website these are faux dissipators with pinned low profile gas blocks so no it isn't a rifle length gas system at all and yes PSA over gasses the shit outta their ARs ask me how I know

I sent in an upper and it was back in my possession in 2 weeks. Good luck with your repair process, they are pretty responsive.

I have like the dissipator setup since the late 60s
I use this upper on a lower with an A2 rifle stock and buffer tube assembly. It shoots really flat, almost like a 20in M16.

for the price, its too good not to share...thanks for the comment.
Pair it with a lower that has the tension screw or use a accuwedge. I'd suggest a STANDARD Manufacturing or a Firebird Precision.
Longer sight radius isn't a perceived accuracy thing, it's proven science.
Oh and FYI you're not bringing the site out further you're putting it back where it belongs where it was originally designed
Still have my pre-ban original Bushmaster Dissipator.
It's a great idea
i built a dissipator last summer with a brownells a1 handgaurd and an a2 stock def has that nam look i love it
I have two of these uppers from Palmetto. One has the ras hand guards and broomstick. The other I transferred the barrel assembly to an a2 upper. The lower has an a1 stock.
Digging that Lethal Weapons Texas footage ❤
Just snagged one of these for Black Friday!

Also you can use a Magpul rifle length handguard to add some Mlok slots on a 2 piece upper for $40
Add an A2 stock and a Magpul grip and you've got cleaning kit storage and oil or battery compartment in the pistol grip
Which is awesome if you want a rifle for the range or for a situation where you forget your cleaning kit
Just my 2cents
Also Anderson had a true dissipator with A2 stock and 16" barrel that's rifle length for $500-550 instead of a faux dissipator
If you want the real deal or the bomb proof front sight block that's actually attached to the gas system
They make a true Dissy too!
Nice clean looking dissipator i always liked the carry handle its like ya gotta have at least 1 AR with a carry handle.
Originally, they had to tune the dissipator by widening the gas port before they invented the mid length gas system.
@8:03 Being sold out is never a good thing for us.
What the update???
Thanks.
Nice review.
Does anyone know if the barrel is at least dimpled for that low profile gas block? I wouldn’t want the gas block under the handguard to come loose.

How many rounds do you have through the Del-Ton? How does it function, any issues?
@@jeremym4942 a few thousand. Function flawlessly when used with a standard carbine buffer.

I wish it was a real dissy but it’s till so cool. I might get one as it’s the only comparison to a dissy with an fn barrel
What BCG is that? How do you like it? That gold look is beautiful

I throw all my ammo into an ammo can, I was just burning through it.

Does PSA use tapered from sight pins? Or are they straight pins? Asking for a friend
Odd question.
@@bmrz38 not odd
It’s either yes or no,
Probably better answered by calling them.
@@CarlPapa88 would but I’m at work when they are open and can’t call from work. I was just hoping someone who had one could respond for me.
Nice!
What's the name of the song at the end?
Having issues with my dissipator upper. It wont rack every other round. Its short stroking. I have interchanged stuff. Any thoughts?
Check buffer weight
What was the barrel profile??
It's an A2 profile

"7074" 🤔
7075-T6
Who cares if the barrel is not free-floated? I have a BCM 20" A4 upper and that thing is just as accurate or more than my free-floated rigs.
I'll take a gi plain Jane ar set up any day. Don't need all the add on garbage. Then again I know how to shoot. And I don't need a night light either
No. That is not a true dissipator. That is a mid length rifle upper with a FSB stuck at the end of the hand guard.
You have an Eotech optic on the same rifle that has a $5 A2 pistol grip? Spend $20 and get a 20° BCM pistol grip 😂😂😂. Come on man😅
