In a salary cap league, you can’t have everything bro. You want the Cowboys to provide Dak with all-pro weapons, a top 5 O-line and a top 5 defense. That’s a major score for a GM. A good GM might get that once or twice in 10years and pray injuries don’t get in the way. Most of the time you can get 1 or 2 out of those 3 things and you just have to make it work. The Cowboys have gotten the most they can out of Dak. There’s no more juice in the orange. Time to stop squeezing.

But unless you have Patrick Mahomes or Tom Brady, its really hard to win without help at other positions. 3 or 4 years from now, the Texans wont be making these same splash moves, assuming they sign CJ to a long term deal. And when the QB takes that much of the cap, your only hope is if he is good enough to transcend the need for help at other positions. The best way to build a team is to draft rookie QBs every year and surround them with star talent at other key positions. Then trade them before signing long term deal unless they are a generational talent. The best window for winning is years 2-4 of a rookie QBs deal.
