that is definitely a goose egg, my first goose egg was laid at 8 months and yes it was fertile...I took 3 and incubated them. at 10 days I candled the eggs and saw the embryo and the veins...30 days from the incubation days 3 healthy goslings hatched...amazing, that was 17 years ago and still have one from that batch living
My goose was 9 months old in January when she started laying eggs. Her eggs are just like the one you showed. She lays an egg every other day. She picked a corner in the coop so I put some nesting material there and she has made a nest out of it. Love my guard goose.
Well that was fun! I think I’d like to be an animal on your farm. Lots of room, a nice pool. Plenty to eat and friends to play with. Heck of a good time. You guys do a great job with the stewardship of your animals. It’s a joy to watch. ❤😊
I read that motto, "Only one bad day on our farm" when we first started 6 years ago and we strive to make that our reality like Kevin & Sarah obviously do. @@marthacalkins8054
You will be two of farmers that won't have a broken down body by the time you retire. My dad always said, it's all about the right tool for the right job. You have efficiency down to a science, nice job.

Nice!!!... win win win! Larger grazing area for Waddlesville, no push mowing for the farmer and streighter rows for the haymaker! Blessings on your day Kiddos! 🌻🐛Carolyn in Ohio 🌿
Goose eggs get bigger as the goose matures. I feel it takes a couple of seasons to reach full size. We stopped housing our ducks and geese together as the geese become very territorial when they become broody.
Always here for the duck stampede! Such enthusiasm! I’m all in for minimizing weed mowing chores. I love the adjustments you folks figure out. Great homestead evolution. You guys are so efficient in your planning and work.
Hi kevin, i like your beagle s lot. Good job with the ducks and geese and cows and calefs and bulls and pigs 🐖 how about pig alleys and silkies? i like that name
Hey, I get those from my chickens about once a week, I have NO OTHER birds...they are typically double yolk, and it makes me wonder if a chicken is out there saying OUCH!
I got a egg from one of my chickens about two months ago and it was literally the size of a goose egg and my wife was asking what one laid it i said the one thats walking wide legged 😂
@@Motherofone2 previous turkeys roosted into the trees at night. I am sure there is a breed that does not do that. Clipped wings also inhibit Turkey bad behaviours from young, too late once grown as Turkey already use to bad behaviour. They also did not like those contantly squawking birds either called Guinea fowls.
We have four chickens who have decided that they no longer want to live with the chickens they want to live with the rabbits. So for a couple of months now they've been living with the rabbits and they absolutely love it
Last year, when my youngest chicken started laying her first eggs (in November of all things!) Her eggs were XL and not the polt size eggs I was expecting. Never underestimate a young bird.
Goose egg!! Yes-not until they set on their nest. We started getting goose eggs in January for the 1st time. We were told our 1 momma was "old" -- she's now sitting on 7 eggs. 😮😮😂
Will you need to extend the drain from the duck pool? I'd imagine you will have a muddy mess in the middle of the new area if you didn't? Love the excitement of morning chores! The silkies are so darn cute!
Have you considered planting a shade tree where the pool drains out… it will be watered regularly and the temporary fencing necessary will prevent the ducks turning that patch into a muddy mess now that it is no longer out of reach.
We moved our chicken coops this week and the poor chickens kept trying to get back to the old location! What a commotion! Our ducks decided long ago to bunk with the chickens too!
Great way to expand their area and take a problem area off your mowing list! Where there’s a need, there’s a way! And the pigs have more room now also ❤😂!
We have ducks for the first time, and I'm amazed at how dirty they always are! Today I collected 2 from our 3 females, they lay quite a bit more than I'd imagined. I also found a "Fairy Egg" tiny little thing so the contrast was significant! Not sure if that's from an old lady hen or one of last season's new girls, I'm guessing one of our legacy flock ladies who turn 6 years old this year. No more eggs but their "personalities" and longevity will keep them in our flock until nature takes its course. These older hens were our start to farming & homesteading... they'll always be near & dear to my heart. I'm sure you have a video on that! I love the content you've put out over the years, and wish you all the best as you care for your homestead, family and all of us, too! Thanks!
Great idea for the pool, if you've never incubated goose eggs, they need extra humidity and you can put them into a glass of water to soak up extra water. It's really fun to see the gosling moving inside the egg too They need a lot of extra to hatch without being sticky and stuck in the egg.
I have raised those geese for fifteen years. As time goes on, they will lay larger eggs. But the true knowing of a goose egg is crack one open. And if it's really hard to crack open, you've got a goose egg.😊 When you cook them, they can have a rubbery texture if you overcook them plus they make great double days!!!
@growingwithgracehomestead- Yep- sure looks like a goose egg. It the right time of year and I would provide nesting hay material. I made my geese a beautiful nest and they tore it all apart and made their own '-) I fried a goose egg and could have used it for a sink stopper!
I have a simple pallet on grey block as an emergency shelter for my chickens to run under. It is just a simple safe place from hawks if needed. Or extra shade in the summer.
When I was a kid our farm had almost this exact same pool set up for our ducks. The only thing different we did was use a concrete septic ring. We had the drain too, and the bottom was done with quickrete with the drain set it. It was AMAZINGLY easy to clean and held up great to the elements.
Another idea you could dig and put in a container and pump the goose pool water into a tote and use it as free fertilizer for your plants or spray it on your grass.
Since the ducks and geese are getting a good increase in land, you should dig them a small pond. I'm sure they would enjoy getting to swim. Really like the looks of your post driver.

I remember duck eggs being very good for baking and goose eggs being too strong flavored to eat. We mostly stuck to eating the chicken eggs. Since no one would eat the goose eggs, gramp got rid of all thirty of them. I think he originally got them to mow the field. Back then all we had was push mowers. That was back 74 years ago. Goats were a better lawn mower and they gave milk that we all liked better.

That's a great addition to Waddlesville. Might be a good location for a few grapevines trained over some cattle panel trellises? I think geese lay all their eggs before sitting on them. Maybe a nanny cam for the coops? 😂
