The principle he's speaking of in regards to building a foundation is the difference between wanting to BE great, and the willingness to BECOME great. The latter is a journey that requires diligence and sacrifice of ego. A lot of people quit once they realize this. Great content. Greaaaaaaaaat.
I taught myself all the instruments i play. Started with keyboard, then went to acoustic guitar, classical style, then drums, and finally violin. I am definitely one of those people that sing with my headphones on, my friends and family say its good, but im terrified to get up and sing directly to ppl. Lol.
I find it easier to find the right support playing with a keyboard than with a guitar. I think that naturally, when you press down the fingers on the keyboard, you are also pressing wiithout even thinking about it on the your diaphragm. You are getting even more support when you sing and press all your fingers on the table and try to get up.
11:56 I actually have the opposite problem 😂 I'm currently relearning to sing because I've been doing death metal screams for a few years in live contexts so I always pushed and pushed until I felt I had the right intensity+ton of compression (basic false chord with pitch). Surprisingly, I didn't blow my voice but since trying to actually record on a condenser mic I started to understand how badly that translates in a 'studio' environment. So I'm on a journey of trying not to yell basically. Also working on mix voice cause of course I pushed my chest voice then switched to head all this time. It's a bit of a mess. 😂😂😂
Ha. That sounds like a unique journey but a journey nonetheless. Trying to stop bad habits can take time. I constant remind myself to be gentle and kind to myself. Try to enjoy the little victories and progress you make. It’s like many things, it doesn’t come quickly but little steps in the right direction.
Good stuff, I like these kinds of videos. Seems a lot of folks just want to sound good while doing their various favorite covers, & trying too hard to mimic vocals that are wildly different from what your own voice wants to do, is a good way to continue sounding like an asshole lol
I’m looking healthy? Well that’s good news. My diet is moving around a bit because of my current emotional state and health issues. I mostly eat a keto based diet but then binge eat and go off the rails on the weekends haha
