I have straight thin hair, and braids also give me that little sad, little deflated look. But my bestie, who has thick wavy hair, when she does braids she get these GORGEOUS waves that I call lioness hair, and it looks incredible. It’s crazy to see how different hair textures play with different methods!

  • @nrosejohnston

One thing I discovered for thick, wavy/curly hair--a lot of these heatless curls came out with frizz or awkward kinks on my natural hair, even though I used smoothing products. Then I tried doing a really quick blow dry beforehand and it's made all the difference! It's still a little heat, but so much less than when I would use a wand regularly. I like to smooth the roots straight, then spend 5 minutes with just the hairdryer and a hairbrush at the ends. The lower half will look fluffy, but it makes my hair smooth enough to form a really pretty curl overnight. I've been using the robe method (although, I use two long softball socks tied together at the top with a hair tie), and with the exception of touching up the front, I've barely used a wand over the last 6 months. It's a curly hair miracle! I stumbled upon this channel way back in the Hunger Games tutorial days, thank you for being gorgeous, creative, and genuine throughout the years. 💕

hi kayley!! just wanted to say thank you for everything you’ve done from hair videos to mental health videos. you’ve taught me how to fishtail braid, but you’ve also inspired me in so may other ways. i’ve been watching you since i was nine so for five years! thank you so much and love you ❤️❤️

She taught me how to fish tail braid too! I didn’t have anyone to teach me those things when I started wanting to do my hair and makeup in my late teens, my mom never even showed me how to braid my own hair or french braid she wasn’t really the type to do stuff like that or spend “girl time” or whatever, she was super distant & tbh she just wasn’t the kind of parent that was attentive or nice lol. None of us would ask her to teach us stuff cause she would get mad if we didn’t do it right, and so obviously my sisters also didn’t know anything about doing hair either. So I decided to teach myself instead of never learning. I used RUclips to learn everything (or practically everything lol) I know about my hair and makeup. I have watched her hair videos for years now, honestly I think at least 5-6 years or more. She taught me how to fishtail braid, regular braid, French braid, how to straighten my hair, how to do buns and different ponies, how to care for my hair while using heat tools, the difference in sizes of curling irons and styles, and so much more! And I love her personality cause she reminds me so much of my oldest sister (who is low key my favorite sibling 🤫 🤐 I know I’m not suppose to say that so shhh lol) which adds to why I love watching her so much. And I got to pass on everything she taught me to my sisters even though they’re all older than me lmao and I became the sibling that always did hair and makeup for school dances and special events cause we didn’t have a good family life- but we took care of each other and made it special for each other in our way! I still get the privilege of getting to doll them up for special occasions or just because ❤️ it’s become a really special ritual/ sisterly bonding time for us that I couldn’t imagine not having you together... and I never would have experienced if not for her.
Crazy how much of an effect people can have on others without even knowing or realizing ❤️ I have so many good memories of watching her videos &learning from her, and so so many good memories with my sisters and even my friends because of what I learned in her videos. It’s so so so cool to think about.
      ❤️

(pardon me, Im commenting as I watch) My typical heatless curls method is braids! Depending what i want I eigher do the french braid back or two dutch brades. and SOMETIMES twin rope braids (i like how this turns out the most but it takes more work and I'm lazy).
I've got med-fine wavy hair so my hair is perfectly suited to the braids. I've tried a lot of heatless curling methods and for me braids are just the easiest and the lest likely to go crazy.

I LOVE doing twin rope braids they are so pretty and I like that they give more of a ringlet curl rather than a wave. Idk why you think they are harder than braids though... They only take me about 5-8 mins. I do them "french" and don't bother with doing doing the "twist one way, wrap the other" method. Instead I stop them from untwisting/unraveling by tying the ends of both braids together with a hairband. Because they are both going away from my face (twisting opposite ways), they stop each other from untwisting. Back when my hair was too short to do this, I would wrap each braid into a little bun at the base of my neck. It's basically the bathrobe tie method, but just wrapping the hair around itself.

First of all, I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!
I Love you, I love Anna Laura and I admire the bond you two have!
    Now about these heatless methods..
For some reason, the single french or dutch braid and my hair are not friends! However, when I do double or triple Dutch braids it looks AMAZING!!
And the Heatless Grammys-inspired curls are a game-changer for me!!
Ever since I learnt it, I am obsessed, and to this day, I love it, I swear by it and I taught it to everyone I know!
I wear it A TON even at weddings or special occasions and I ALWAYS get complements!
I did it on a long hair, mid-length hair and a bob, and it look Gorgeous EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. And Oh My God.. The volume is perfection!!
I also tried the robe tie method and it wasn't good because my hair was short!

Love these videos!! A little tip from experience to avoid the chaotic octocurl ends, is to just use a regular ponytail band to hold the ends (like is done for the robe curls) instead of the elastics on the end of the octocurl. That way the ends stay pointed down without the crazy crease. :)

Hey! Can you review the Kristen Ess hair Glosses and test if we can mix the colors?

    • @amberlindsey2541
      @amberlindsey2541 4 года назад +1

So I have pretty dark brown hair with a reddish undertone. I've had various types of dark red/copper hair in the past, and I thought I'd give the red gloss a try. The color is was pretty, but when I say it got alllllll over my shower, I mean it lol. Stained my hands, towel, and shirt worse than actual box dye, and it never rinsed totally out after application. It only lasted in my hair for a couple weeks, if that, and every time I showered, color rinsed out of my hair just as much as when I'd first applied it. So if you're looking for something fun to spruce up your color or try something different for a hot minute, and you don't mind a mess, I'd say go for it. Otherwise, it's super temporary, and for me, that coupled with the mess and worrying about whether my hair was going to stain my pillow every night after I showered just wasn't it lol. I'm assuming it would be a similar experience with all the other dark colors, but idk anything about the lighter colored glosses, so the blondes and the rose pink might be a totally different experience. I'd love to get her thoughts on them, too!

I discovered you with the halo curls video! I was googling heatless curls that didn’t require me to buy anything because I was broke but wanted curled hair for a special occasion. I put it up the night before but I didn’t dry it enough beforehand so it was still wet when I woke up. Instead of giving up, I went to work all day looking like a crazy renaissance lady at Kohl’s 🙈 and all the old ladies thought that was what I was going for 🤣. I hoped and prayed when I was able to take it down that it looked good, and OT SO DID. Everyone that saw the t-shirt look was shocked at how it came out! I’ve used this method any time I want curled hair ever since...1) because heatless curls hold on my hair SO MUCH longer than heat curls, 2) I have zero patience for curling irons or curlers in general-this allows me to use bigger chunks of hair at a time so it’s so much faster for me. I’ve also worn the renaissance look to my current job once because I was too tired to do it the night before, so I put it up in the morning and threw a hairnet over it and looked a fool all day for #worthit results! So thank you. I love all your videos, and even did one of your updos for my wedding ❤️

I recently discovered a fun hair-hack on myself (I have thick wavy hair, if it's feeling generous a few strands will ringlet):
    1) shower and detangle hair while sopping wet
    2) throw into hair turban
    3) fall asleep on sofa watching bake off and wake up at the start of the show stopper challenge (30-45 mins?)
    4) go "Omg I forgot to put my hair oils on and my face feels like a raisen" and run to the bathroom. Flip hair over so you're like ready to touch your feet, oil up generously and scrunchy into the ends, rub your fingers a LITTLE bit to make sure you get every strand coated.
    5) leave to air dry/sleep on it et voila, curls!
I think the key is twirling your hair turban tight, and I also have one of those hair towel that are shaped specially for hair turbans idk if that makes a difference but I love it

I remember trying a lot od these 😄 my favourite heatless curl method is double french braids. With a couple finishing touches with curling iron next morning it gives me best results. Bath robe method was so good when my hair was longer, but braids are the best lazy girl method 😄

I love the bathrobe tie curls but if I don't have a bathrobe on hand, I'll just do two french rope twist braids down the sides of my head. Great for taming my half wavy half straight hair!

2b hair and braids method works great for me! It really helps to give me more uniformity when my hair has some extra wavy portions and some more straight.

I have tried at least half of all these over the last few (five? six?) years. You are my fave RUclips hair stylist if I’m honest.
My fave is the bathrobe curls. But I have not had a chance to get the octocurl, so have not tried that.

The T-Shirt is just a newer version of a method that has probably been around as long as there have been socks. I learned to "sock" my hair with a long, thick sock, silk, wool or cotton. I did it daily for college back in the mid 70s & my older sisters started doing it in the 40s. They learned it from my mom & aunt who stole their brother's socks to do it in the 30s & 40s! It works great too!

I've found that the curl pattern from a 4-strand rope braid (from The Braid Encyclopedia) is theeeeeeee prettiest. It's a rounder curl than a 3-strand braid which can sometimes look really "crimped" on me. Sometimes I do one big french 4-strand and that's big waves, or I do two frenches for a tighter curl look. It's only a little bit harder than a 3-strand but the results are bboonnkkeerrss

Giiirrrlll! I'm happy to hear that you have the same braid/curl situation as me! Whenever I take them out of the braid I'm like super excited then five minutes later it's like flat 😒
PS my hair is super fine and does not have any body/natural curl whatsoever.

I have been using the sleep styler for two year now and LOVE them. I will say that I think it depends on your hair length and texture though because I have friends who’s turned out like yours.

I have thick and full hair and braid waves are my jam. I wear them pretty much every day. I remember trying the t-shirt curls a bunch of times in college and then always being disappointed and pulling my hair into a bun because I had no skill when it came to the wrapping 😅

I'm still so tempted by the octocurl!
I did try braids a few times, but never though to do just one or two, and multi braids just made me look like an electrocuted poodle.
Also, that lip color is amazing on you!

hey, kayley! i love your videos and i watch them sometimes just for fun, you have such a beautiful personality and i am so inspired by you. I remember that i started watching your videos a. because i love all about hair , braids and curls b. i wanted to deal with my hair problems better - we have similar hair types ( oily and fine hair) and i have the SAME annoying hair line.
although i have fine medium to long hair, the braids work on me. I do them all the time- either 2 dutch braids( for tighter waves) or 1 dutch braid (for loser wavres). I wake up with bouncy marmaidy voluminous waves .sometimes i use heat on some pieces in the morning but in general they turn up pretty good . they are easy, and they are anyway a good protective hairstyle for the night. totally recommend anyone to try this method!

I have baby fine hair and braids have ALWAYS been my go-to for mermaid waves. They've worked great for mem no product necessary. My other one, especially when it's super-long like the past few years, is when I have a good layered cut. Then I just blow-dry it all forward, wind it up in a high bun until my hair cools, and voila! The ends of all the layers flip out nicely, nice volume at the crown, and the part around my face is perfect. Sometimes I'll use a mousse, but I usually don't need product for this one to work either.

So wonderful to see how far you've come 💚 I remember spending ages struggling to do the halo curls but not putting any product in and they dropped in like 10 minutes lol. I mostly do braids but tbh I don't love how they come out, it's just easier. Currently eyeing my craft supplies with the thought of making a poor imitation of an octocurl...

I a mixture of gel and water. It works great and is very easy to rinse out. I started doing this because I hate the sticky residue tu you end up with after using gel and hetty rollers when using full strength rollers. It's up to uou yo try it out but I'm sure youll enjoy the way it golds your hair without all the hastles of using the product.

Hey Kaylee!! I’ve been watching since the green background days, and I can confirm that I ALSO tried all of these methods from your videos lol so we you weren’t alone at least 😂 my hair i fine and I have a LOT of it, and I find the braid method works super well for me! My hair comes out in very defined waves that give my hair tons of volume and I still use it almost daily! Lol thanks for a lifelong hair hack :)

Hey I love your videos you are the absolute best RUclips channel out there in my opinion!!! 💕 also I think you should do a video where you show a week of your life as a RUclipsr. You could show us the editing software you use and how you film videos. Again I love your stuff and I can’t stop watching your vids 💕;)
