John Carr Day of the 5000m PBs [] Fast Track Racing [] Can We Run Season's Bests?

Opportunities for females to race 5000m on the track are few and far between. So when we saw an event taking place in Keighley, north of Bradford, we leapt at the chance to take part.
The event consisted of five 5000m races, graded by time and each getting progressively quicker. It was a great afternoon out, and we hope that next year the organisers can get a track permit in place so performances can count of Power of 10 for UKA ranking purposes.

Hey John and Dawn! Loved watching your 5000m PBs journey. The steam on the track like a Turkish bath and running through that downpour must've been wild! Despite the hiccup with the race license, you both showed incredible spirit and perseverance. Here’s to hoping next year’s event is even better! 🌟

What a great event. My Garmin thinks i could do a 21 minute 5k but I think it's deluded 😅 22 might be realistic with some training. On a track it might be ideal conditions. Excellent running, both 👍🏻🏃‍♂️

I always find trying to hold pace on the track is ruined by my negative mental fortitude while running. In my day-to-day life I'm the ultimate optimist but once I start running I become a grumpy €unt. 😅😅😯

Track running does require a certain amount of switching off for the first half, at least. Then it's use any tactic you can to forget the pain! 😁

Shame about the license if that was a main attraction for attending…though would need to think carefully about shoe choice, as they’d need to be sub 25mm road shoes to not potentially get disqualified in a 5000m!

Yep people had to change shoes at a recent track and field meeting I took part in. Apparently it was a lot of red tape for the organisers which led them to not go licensed. Hope it's sorted for next year.

You both did great. Dawn running 1st and last KM the same was awesome. How much faster in % do you consider track compared to road?

Thanks. Not sure if track is faster for a few reasons. 1. Races normally take place late afternoon when it's warmer and not our usual running time. 2. Keeping mental focus is harder. 3. You're using the same muscles going in one direction, so they fatigue quicker. Maybe folk who run track regularly have a different experience.

Good of the organisers to get the smoke machines going! Great effort Dawn, real shame about the license but I'm sure you'll get another opportunity for an official time soon. Solid running John especially with all your recent races and to get a best in the last 3 years. Looks like this could be a great event with the license sorted too
