The makeshift track is complete genius. Good strong effort from both as we have all come to expect. Well done

Thank you. It's good when sessions go to plan. 😁👍

Absolutely love that you're also doing Abingdon, and that you're also doing a 16 week plan. So my week 5 began today as well. It'll be my second ever marathon after a 3:48 in April. Hoping for sub 3:20 this time! I'm also using the L4 Marathon plan by Ben Parkes. But I'm not doing the speed session this week as I've got a sprint triathlon on Wednesday and an Olympic triathlon on Sunday. Squeezing in my 29km long run on Friday. Hopefully I won't die!

Glad you're enjoying the plan. Like you I'm being flexible with it but it's a good base to work with. Look forward to seeing you at Abingdon.

Good workout guys and I'd love a section like that - right up my street! I'm struggling to get any workouts in faster than zone 1 and 2 with the heat and a sciatica flare up which is annoying. Hopefully still able to get the long runs in though!
As for the Olympians... I meet Roger Black and The Running Show selling his treadmills. He was very tall.
I also rode with the Brownlee brothers in Spain back in 2014. Managed 10km and had a nice chat with them before blowing up! Very nice guys who were happy to share some wisdom and training tips with me!

I presume you go by HR or power output if that hot. Dawn gets sciatica, so lots of stretching needed. She likes the pigeon pose.
Nice one meeting Roger Black and the Brownlee brothers. We listened to Alistair Brownlee's book on audio. Well worth a read!

Positivity works wonders. Entered a duathlon organized by Harry Waugh. He was my coach for a while in my early days with Barnsley Harriers. Just before the race started, I nipped to the loo and was gobsmacked to see STEVE OVETT having a wee!

Did he pass on any nuggets of wisdom over the urinals?

@@tworunningbrooms we actually talked about broken fingers. I'd been playing in goal at school with the kids. One lad smacked the ball hard and it hit my little finger "head" on. Had to go to hospital and unfortunately, they didn't set it back correctly. It meant that I was unable to play chords on my guitar any more.

Great work both! Working with a technique coach seems to be fruitful for you John! Is it someone you're seeing face to face or online consultations?

Thanks, Chloe. They're face to face sessions. I will be making a video when the whole programme is completed. It's been an interesting focus.

Looking strong there, John. That work on form must be doing some good.
One question that came to mind after you ran the final rep at faster than goal pace; do you tend to do this with most workouts, or just occasionally?
I've heard other runners say that you shouldn't try to beat the workout, just follow the plan. I'm always interested in gathering opinions on this type of thing.

Great question. Sub 7 was me being cagey and managing expectations. In reality I was hoping for 6.45 to 6.50. The average ended up at 6.40. There is an argument that the last rep was too fast particularly as it was a mile rep. Actually I was in 6.40 pace at half way and really ripped the last 800m. I guess as I've not trained like this for a while I'm pushing the red line, which I wouldn't advise anyone I coach to do!
It turned out to be nearer to 10k pace than HM so what I can sustain for 42 mins rather than an hour.

Very topical adding Olympian in the title. Will there ever be a British Olympian marathon champion?

Doubt it as at least one of the countries which dominates has had nearly 100 athletes banned for doping in recent years.

@@tworunningbrooms true. I saw a documentary that over 7,000 athletes a year get caught 😱
