you know bud i learned something today, i've been fishing with a cane pole all my life, and still one of my favorite ways too fish. I have couple of different methods, but that electrical tape tip was great. Not many people fish with a cane pole where i live awesome video.
I use the 13 footers too(although sometimes the 20 footers are more advantageous). I rig mine the old-fashioned way, spiraling the line up the pole(after looping one end with a figure 8 loop over the bottom stay of the line keeper)and through the eye, which is easy on both the pole and the line. It takes a minute longer to set up, but it makes the pole able to handle even large fish(depending on the line/leader/hook I choose for a particular situation(normally I use 20lb braided line or 12lb mono connected by a loop to loop connection/figure 8 loop to a 10lb mono or fluorocarbon leader and a #6 Octopus hook). My bobber is like yours.
That's awesome Andy. My father use to rig them that way and you're right, more reliable for bigger fish. I've been known to hook a few cats while bream fishing! hahah.
@@PalmettoCats so true. I first found out about it on Black Warrior Lures and on other videos about rigging traditional cane poles. Before that, I would rig them just like the British do, as shown on Easy Fishing where he demonstrates fishing a Whip(telescoping cane pole)since I was small.
@@PalmettoCats the British way(efficient but not suitable if you got a Volkswagen on the other end of the line) 😁 ruclips.net/video/45h7O1RsJCE/видео.html
I've always wrapped/stored a bunch of line around the clips. I rigged up by running line from the clips up to and through the eye. I can 'choke'up and deploy a shorter length of line or a longer length as desired. When a fish is hooked, it does put pressure on the tip, but it also allows for a bit of running room for the fish. I've never had an eye pull off, but I have broken the tip of the pole off one by dropping the pole or getting snagged... Some kind of mishap.
I just recently got back into cane pole fishing. Bought a 13ft BnM black widow. I was going to wrap some vet tape onto the handle. For grip and a hook keeper like ur electrical tape.
Although I like the traditional method of spiraling the line all the way up the pole, I've been using a version of the knotless knot to connect the line to the pole. I measure line about 6 feet longer than the pole, go thru the eye about as long as my index finger. Then I come around the eye and tightly wrap the line to a half inch of the tag end. Then I spiral the line over the wraps I made and go through the eye(like a giant knotless knot). It holds really well and doesn't fail(even when I pull it very hard to test it). This way I can unfold/collapse the pole at will(w/o the hassle of unspiraling it first. 😁👍👍
Man I wish I had a video of this. It almost sounds like whipping, but the around the eye and spiraling over the wraps is beyond my comprehension. I'm not sure I trust the electrical tape, but I know I don't want to spiral the line all the way down the pole...
@@pacanis just watch a knotless knot tutorial. Than think of the eye of the pole as the eye of the hook. And instead of making 6 to 10 wraps over a short tag end, you make a longer tag end(about the length of your index finger)and make enough wraps to get close to the end of it(but leave a little bit of tag end). You just have to keep it tight like in a knotless knot tutorial. What I do is to spiral the line back over the tight wraps it already made, going back to the eye. When it get to the eye, is measure out enough line to go back thru the eye and have enough to make a figure 8 loop knot big enough to fit a spool of line through. So I can conveniently attach a premade montage(line, float, leader)to the pole. The purpose of all this is not to have to tie fishing line just to the eye of the pole. Because I had a fish rip it off the pole(probably either a giant carp or catfish). The only thing better is to spiral the line up the pole from the back to the tip(and thru the eye of the pole)each time you fish.
@@andymetternich3428 Thanks. Now I think I know what you are doing. I think it's like one of the snell knots I've seen. I've got a different pole now anyway. It has a Lillian on the end like a Tenkara rod. Which is basically what it is I guess. 18' long and carbon fiber. I caught a decent largemouth on it a few days ago. I'm forgetting I own any other poles, lol.
Hope I'm not showing my ignorance here, but will your line not pull loose from the end with just the tape holding it? Maybe I missed a step, but do you not need to secure the line with a knot of some sort? Thanks J
The tape will hold it. But recently I’ve started trying a knot, then taping for extra support. Also, when you wrap the line around the end of the pole, it provides extra support. I’m gonna do an update video soon.
@@PalmettoCats no I mean I didn’t see you tie anything. It’s just ran through eyelet then taped to pole. If the eyelet comes off won’t line pull off pole or did I miss something?
I have used these since I was a kid fishing with my papa but I never got to learn how to rig it the right way so thanks a lot
armykiller96 you’re very welcome
It was hard finding someone that actually shows exactly how to do this!! Thank You!1
You're welcome!
I never thought about the electric tape! Great idea
Thanks Tater
I glad you made this video my gave me one before he passed away didn't get the chance to show me how to rig it now I thanks for sharing my friend
That really warms my heart. Thank you for sharing that.
I just purchased my first buster today. Can’t wait to use it. Thanks!

Awesome. Good luck!
Good job sir 👍

I just set my pole up today, now I have to go redo it with the electrical tape. Never thought about it.
It helps
The tip also can be used to shorten your line if fishing in tight spots and for extra line when fishing in rivers.
Let's go fishing yall!
When I was a kid we made them out of cane poles that we cut and dried

So far I can't complain. Got the idea from knotless knot tutorials. Figured why not make a bigger version for cane poles with eyes.

I think so.

Do you have a link of the pole you are using
I dont', but you can get them from walmart.
You don’t tie a knot on the end of eylet ?
No sir. That too is basically a guide. If you just tie the line to the tip, these big shellcracker will pull it right off.
