I note that this was written in 2008 before the iphone 4 and it's enhanced features, such as screen clarity. I have and iphone and love it. I have no problem with email and sync with my gmail account. I love the fact that texting appears as a conversation which helps considerably if your reply comes some time later than the original text is sent! The biggest drawback is the iphone of course doesn't support Word/Excel etc, but since I downloaded DocstoGo that is now resolved too!
Hi Jenn, the battery life on the blackberry bold 9700 is great. I have to charge my phone every 3 days which is 3 times more than what people are getting on iphone. the great thing about the blackberry is that you do not need to continously look for ways to conserve to conserve the battery power such as turning off wifi and reducing screen brightness. I have left all the phone's settings as they were when I got the phone. I do suggest allowing battering to run dead b4 your 1st charge.
I don't think one can really say they are the same thing. Sure they have a lot in common on specs but they are 2 different machines at their core. I have both and I love the in depth manual control (system & application), (setting custom tones per individual email accounts, etc.) and I love the top notch screen resolution on the BB. On the iPhone it's having a plethora of apps, jail break or not and it's the beauty of having BSD in my hands. For me the power comes with having both.

@ namra I agree 100%. I already have an iPod, so I have no reason to buy an iPhone. I bought my Blackberry Bold 2 days ago (so obviously my version is probably much newer than the one in this video), and I'm beyond thrilled with it. It's easy to use, and it does everything.
In the application sections of the bold, you should be able to read/edit WORD, EXCEL and PPT!! Also the Bold calculator is linked to the qwerty keypad, you don't need to move the trackball to input data. I don't own an iphone but i used it, they have superb browsing interface, otherwise i still can't find a requirement to buy one.
@MsCutiepie200 The bold in the video is a Bold 9000, there have been many other generations of the Bold, if you got yours recently, it is probably a Bold 9700 or 9780, which look very different.
I also noticed in the review that they are using a bold 9000. The bold 9700 is much faster and has they new track-pad which I have found to work great.
I guess it comes down to what you really look for in a smart phone. Touchscreen or keyboard, massive app market and gadgets and gizmos to a more business-y phone with less gimmicks. Either way, both get the job done. They are about the same in price. I needed a new phone and had the choice. I went for the Blackberry Bold 9700. My sister chose the iPhone. After a few months with my phone I would not trade it in again. My choice was the right one. What's yours?

well i have both the iPhone and the BB Bold and to be honest i am loving the fact that theres bluetooth on the BB also i think the BB is more of a phone, while the iphone is an mp3 player with a phone system attached to it. also i prefer the video recording on the BB
had the iPhone 3gs and decided to sell it and go with the bold. im getting it next week, just found out that was the only blackberry on ATT with a 3G connection. i almost got the curve, that would suck.
I have BOTH phone....i was using the Iphone for a couple months but im going back to using the 9000. Its easier to use daily not to mention a much longer battery life. I just dont find myself using most of the Iphone features.
Speaking as an avid Mac User the IPhone's only con is it's presently 32gigs and I use a 64gig IPod Touch so it's clearly not enough for my needs. so I currently use a BlackBerry Tour. There's an application I use for my IPod Touch that allows me to use it as a phone.. Both phones are great choices what it comes down to is what you need it for vs what the latest trend is, which us the IPhone..
A blackberry and an iphone are completely different. I had a blackberry bold and really i would have been afraid if i dropped it. They are not more solid like you said. Still it was a great phone and so is the iphone

i personally own and prefer the bold 9000,i purchased it the same day the 3GS released,which was a year ago.but i have used an iphone before.after having my bold a lil over a year and having used an iphone,the iphone hasnt convinced me to switch over.its more of an entertinment fone for me,simply becu i mainly like toplay the games on it,while my bold is more of a "get things done type" of fone.both have their pros and cons but if i had to choose,it would be my bold.

Different strokes for different folks. BB is a BUSINESS phone with a well made email / messages app while the iphone is more of a multimedia experience better for games and web browsing.

I can't decide between the white Bold 9000 and the white iPhone. If they came out with a pink of either it'd be a no competition, I'd go pink either way.

i have the Bold and have used many iPhones... (Some Bold Pros) personally i like the bold more because of push emails and full keyboard (touch keyboard is a pain)...also the Bold has tethering...(Tethering + T-Mobile 3G = WIN) (Some iPhone Pros) the iPhone on the other hand has thousands of apps...and the touch screen and motion senser further improve the usability of the apps creating a broad range of uses when the proper app is applied...
Yeah i totally agree about your comments about the Iphone but i think you need to have Wi Fi for its browser to work, if you tell that you don´t need wi fi then i´ll definitely buy an Iphone
I found typing on the iphone really really easy after they introduced the landscape typing, which I think they should have done with the FIRST IPHONE. Anyway most people who say typing on the iphone is really hard actually never did it and just assumed that it is hard. Of course im not gonna lie typing on the bold is slightly easier but it really isnt to big of a difference.

Are you able to expand your iphone's memory with SD cards? Can you hear your phone ringing in a busy crowd, let alone feel it vibrate. Dont get me wrong the iphone does multi media really well, but blackberrys have great features too!

Good review but the only thing i disagree with you about is the battery life. My bold murders my friends iphone4 in battery life... he gets 2 days with barley any use and i get 4, he gets 1 day with alot of use i get 2-3. I personally prefer the BB it feels much more professional, the iphone just feels like, well an ipod.

I through my black berry off a 35 foot deer stand with no case on a rock and it did not break then I through my I phone 5 on the same rock from the 35 foot deer stand and the iphone broke no longer will work screen broke back of phone shattered but my black berry only had small skuff on back of it and small scrach on the screen . Iphones are ok but the screens break easy and they are not built to take beating wear and tear . Black berrys were built for work and to hold up on roughf jobs .

The backberry bold has multitasking the iphone is not even close to that! I agree with the browser...!! but one you get used to the track and ball is great!!! You should compare how is easy or hard is to send email in both devices and the batery life... that is very important!!!

Seriously everyone. They both have their own advantages. iPhone is more for games and media playing. Its an app phone. Blackberry is for work, calls and sms. Pros for bb: bbm, physical QWERTY, long lasting battery life (more reliable for phone calls). Cons: no real good apps, not very fun to play with, smaller screen. I own a htc phone which runs on android and now I'm selling it to get a bb bold and iPod touch. Perfect combination if you ask me

i agree, and battery life on the iphone is crap. try playing with those apps, watch your battery dissappear. however, iphones are much better for use under a wobbly table, to even it out
I prefer the iPhone, because it seems more convenient. I hate the cursor concept of BlackBerry, I borrowed one of my friend to try and send a tweet, but it took me 10 minutes to do so.
@AmitKKarpe I agree that they are different. It's all down to personal preference. There is a lot of good points to Android, my favourite one it being Open Source, but I think iPhone is best for me, so it is what I use. Whereas Blackberry, I don't understand why people would purchase such expensive handset, when the apps aren't great, they break easy, freeze a lot, and the OS isn't that powerful, battery life sucks, for the same price you can get a great android or ios handset :)

Bold 9900 is amazing. I have nothing against the iPhone, but the Bold does everything I look for in a phone... Especially a nice keyboard

Currently I've an iPod Touch.
I don't know which to get cause iPhone is TOO seriously TOO common.

why i choose iphone:
1.you can call on it
2.you can play games on it
3.you can text with it
4.you can download apps on it
5.you can play music on it
Seriously everyone. They both have their own advantages. iPhone is more for games and media playing. Its an app phone. Blackberry is for work, calls and sms. Pros for bb: bbm, physical QWERTY, long lasting battery life (more reliable for phone calls). Cons: no real good apps, not very fun to play with, smaller screen. I own a htc phone which runs on android and now I'm selling it to get a bb bold and iPod touch. Perfect combination if you ask me
Iphone has a front camera which is better since I can use it as a mirror when I'm outside and I can video call! there are free apps for video call
I love the screen quality of the bold but I like the screen size of the iphone.

I was first sceptical as regards tothe typing on a touch phone but it turned out to be ok once you get used to it.
Both phones are awesome phones... they each have their ups and downs just like everything else.. i got a Bold because i was familar with the blackberry interface... i would not mind a i phone either... id say that they are equal
im getting a new phone soon and i've been trying to decide between these two for months but i cant. blackberry is good for bbm and almost all my friends have blackberrys, but a lot of people with blackberrys are saying they'd rather have an iphone because its a better phone, so im stuck! any suggestions?
I'm thinking about going with the bold, I have an iphone but the service or coverage sucks, thought it was just at&t, but it isn't its the phone. What do you like better about the bold?

Ive played a lot with Iphones and little bit with a blackberry 9700. The internet on the blackberry is much faster but the Iphone has very nice gadgets and looks much better. But ive had a samsung pixon for 1.5 year so I really don't want a touchscreen phone anymore...

i am getting a replacement phone now i used to have the blackberry bold and it was a great phone however i might switch over to an iphone....if you could have a bold or i phone which would you most recomend?

@pengheng IPhone 3G is $50 in AT&T. Compared to a old generation Curve 2. ($180)

i agree, and battery life on the iphone is crap. try playing with those apps, watch your battery dissappear. however, iphones are much better for use under a wobbly table, to even it out

I prefer the iPhone, because it seems more convenient. I hate the cursor concept of BlackBerry, I borrowed one of my friend to try and send a tweet, but it took me 10 minutes to do so.
@AmitKKarpe I agree that they are different. It's all down to personal preference. There is a lot of good points to Android, my favourite one it being Open Source, but I think iPhone is best for me, so it is what I use. Whereas Blackberry, I don't understand why people would purchase such expensive handset, when the apps aren't great, they break easy, freeze a lot, and the OS isn't that powerful, battery life sucks, for the same price you can get a great android or ios handset :)
I dont know how about u guys, but if apple re-released the first iphone with the same ios and everything, id buy that instead of any high tech face scanning mess they do now o’days
okay so im getting a new phone next couple days.. and i have no clue as to which to get.. i do have an ipod and its pretty awesome.. but love the keyboard on the blackberry my friends got.. any suggestions
