FreeCAD 0.18 Design of a custom 3D print piece.

In Brief : A Part is designed by first designing the souurunding structure, then the Part itself and finally cutting away the previous constructed Structures.

I find it always helpful to create a helper line within the sketch and give it a dimension and a name for the pocket/padding depth. That way I can reference the dimensions within the pocket/pad operation. Like that It appears in combo view in a nice way without the need to edit the pad/pocket itself.

i briefly looked at it and , yes, after my current video project, i can take that, or something similar ( i don´t want to copy 100% ) as a tutorial. I can see it has a quite some interesting aspects for showing some not so basic techniques.

I was testing 0.19 too but I miss the same things you mentioned at the beginning of this video. is there a way to inform the developer to reimplement this feature? It is really necessary.

They have implemented it somehow, but in some testing branch, not yet public. I have not tested yet..as i have no way to test these here. I will make a video once, i find it working...

​@@hagei406 OK - thank you - from time to time I test newer versions. Because I m using linux I can test the app-images without installing. so it ist easy to roll back to a good working version.

I just tried the part where you insert this into Techdraw. I can get the template and the object on the page, but the object is larger than the template. The template whether metric (A4) or US does not size correctly.

Well, i guess you constructed in INCH , then it will be bigger. There is also a parameter in the PAGE properties for Scaling

Thank you so much. I apologize for being such a pain and not getting this as I should. But I am having so much fun in learning FreeCAD and following your instructions. The Scaling worked and my object in on the A4 page with the dimensions for the part.
