  • Johnny Heineken showing off his mad wingfoiling skills the day before the AWSI show in September 2023. More show videos coming soon, stay tuned to the Blue Planet Surf RUclips channel.
    This is the gear Johnny is using, in his words:
    That's a 3.6m ozone proto/aluula flux. I was riding the ML700 with 96cm mast. Funny that you got this session cause it is the one time I tried the 700 in the two months I was up there! It was fun for the lighter breeze that afternoon.

    He’s surfing, the wing is an assistant to power up but that’s all. Letting it push him and manipulating it in carves like he does is neat, but it’s led by how he wants to carve the wave - he could just taxi it while carving. Nothing negative, just noticing the flow he’s on is dictating all the action. There are those little bursts where he hauls ass in a burnout of sorts with the wing, but for me the footwork is what’s cool.

  • @toobmes
    @toobmes 11 месяцев назад +1

    Robert, thanks for this video. Johnny is amazing. Could you please comment on his wide stance--much wider than any other riders I've seen. Is this style something that intermediate riders should emulate, or is this only for world champions? More leverage on the board but also harder for foot switches? Thanks!

    • @blueplanetsurf
      @blueplanetsurf  11 месяцев назад +1

      Good question, I have been thinking about that as well. My take: I think Johnny’s wider stance and also relatively straight legs at high speed carried over from his kite racing experience where a wider stance seems to help control smaller/ faster foils at high speeds vs the narrower stance adopted by many downwind foilers which seems to allow more finesse at controlling somewhat bigger foils at relatively lower speeds. So the type of gear used and speeds reached will have an effect on what style would work better for you.
