You can't convert a community to a group, but you can create a group within that community and then add all the community members to that group. Once you have done this, you can remove the group from the community if you wish to. But I don't know why you would do that. The community is designed to contain several groups and it allows admins to make announcements to all the groups within it.

It only allows for the addition of 4 previously existing groups, but you can create more if need be.
