I worked at a Ford dealership in Leicester in the late 60's and this is one of the best cars Ford UK ever made. The 1600 E was like a Rolls Royce. The walnut veneer on the dashboard and door tops was sheer quality with metallic paint and rostyle wheels it was a beauty to behold.
Worked on a gold mk2 1600e as a young apprentice, took it on test drive fell in love with Twin choke carb performance.Later on bought my own car in Red with tan upholstery &fitted new tan carpets.Bought Amber gold 1600e donar car +mk2 Super 1500 in Silver.Great to see your car enjoy using it.👍
Hi Colin when I first purchased this car in 87 1 was broken so I put the other on the rear as a reverse light i had rushed to get this back on the road after last Aug as it had been sitting for over 30yrs iv finally now found a decent origional pair of spot lights with brackets and I totally agree it Does makes the car
Thank you for your kind comments il get the pictures together before it was cleaned but I'm sure I posted a video of the first start in its pre cleaned condition
I agree ,it was welded by a friend back in 1987 Iv put the car back on the road as it is but I did originally intend to fully restore the car 1 day and I think that's what delayed putting this back on the road so iv decided to enjoy as it is after being parked up since Aug 1988
We see some rust buckets re built in the UK. We have better condition old Fords in South Africa, we have many enquiries wanting to purchase our original cortinas, escorts, mk 1 capris.
It is hard to believe that a man will dry store his car under temperature control, and take it out for 30 years. If he did so he must be a genius to know for sure that he will live 30 years forward.
Hi John the top plates were already done before I had purchased the car in 1987 I had put this back on the road as it was with safety inmind and still enjoying this car I don't want to take it off the road to fully restore it as I had left it sitting too long the first time
Export only. I see one in Malta a few years ago mint condition. the fellow that owned it covered the seats up from new and garaged it from new. Metallic blue it’s probably worth twenty grand now.

Very nice, shame spot lamps missing. First thing I'd put back on - made the "face"!

Of course this was the era before the added weight to cars with crash bars in doors, air con, electric windows and reduce power catalytic converters.
Brilliant 😎
