Being from Dallas, there was a lot of anger around here when Dirk was drafted because everyone thought Don Nelson was doing his mad scientist bit again by drafting some soft Euro. 21 years later we can't imagine the Mavericks without him, and the drafting of Luka was met with celebration around these parts.
Back in 99 and the early 2000s when Jason Williams still played for the Kings alongside Chris Webber, I perceived Williams to be a star. Yes, he never received star accolades (IIRC he only won a meaningless rookie all star game MVP) but anybody I knew who followed the NBA at the time was amazed by his passing and ball handling skills.

Being from Dallas, there was a lot of anger around here when Dirk was drafted because everyone thought Don Nelson was doing his mad scientist bit again by drafting some soft Euro. 21 years later we can't imagine the Mavericks without him, and the drafting of Luka was met with celebration around these parts.

Back in 99 and the early 2000s when Jason Williams still played for the Kings alongside Chris Webber, I perceived Williams to be a star. Yes, he never received star accolades (IIRC he only won a meaningless rookie all star game MVP) but anybody I knew who followed the NBA at the time was amazed by his passing and ball handling skills.

It's understandable that Nowitzki was missed by so many teams, coming from Germany who was not a major force in European basketball at the time, he had never played in first division in his country and, besides youth competitions, never participated in continental cups, it's far from the Luka Doncic situation.
