    FWIW I had the frozen screw holding the igniter in place too. Tried liquid wrench and some heat, no luck. I took the approach of snapping the igniter on either side of the mount, this enabled me to remove the igniter. I was then able to pretty easily remove the mounting tab from the igniter, and to take a pair of locking pliers to the screw. Came out pretty easily.
    One other issue for me - the igniter needing replacement was on the front left burner which is thicker than the others on my stove. The igniter did not extend high enough to ignite the gas when assembled. I had to fiddle with the mounting tab with some pliers, ultimately got it to slide down the igniter a bit, and all works like a charm.
    Your video was amazingly helpful, and really detailed. Thank you so much for posting it!

    I love how you cleaned under the bottom of the burners! every time i clean it i see how the gunk collects underneath...it irks me to no end...the burner with the higher base is to elevate the flames closer to your pot to heat up quicker!

    Had the same problem with unremovable ignitor screw. Attempted drill out and went through 4 drill bits before giving up. Had the theory that the screw was work hardening, which is a problem with stainless steel. I tried tapping the hole adjacent but this made the ignitor about 3/32" closer to the center hole and the burner
    casting fit poorly cocking up about 3/32". "compensated" by putting washers under ignitor screw but apparently this was too close and burner would not ignite.
    Removed washer(s) but no go. Finally realized problem was the ignitor was too close so put ignitor mounting hole over stump of screw (dremelled off the head
    earlier) and put a 3/8" square of 1/8" thick aluminum over the ignitor mount hole which holds the ignitor in place when the top is replaced. All good with this.
    I also lubed all the screws with silicone grease rated for 550F temp to try and prevent difficulties in future. Apparently Bosch ignitors are failure prone. My previous
    stove top (non-Bosch) spark ignitors functioned perfectly for 38 yrs.

    • @edtheoldtechguy
      @edtheoldtechguy  3 года назад +3

      That is how my issues began. Before replacing parts here is what I recommend. Clean all parts thoroughly. Take brass wire brush and clean the igniters then make sure all parts are seated correctly especially that flat circle. If you do this correctly and the issue persists you may have a bad igniter and need to begin replacing them as I did.

    Thank you, extremely helpful video Mr. Ed theoldtechguy! I have the same Bosh stovetop it appears, in a rental, but the tenant is definitely not as clean as you, therefore all the screws on his burners are rusted/stuck. When trying to remove the burner screws, they start stripping. Looks like will have to use an extractor of some sort. Can you tell me what size screws could be used to replace the burner screws? When I tried to do a search, it appears one replacement screw cost $23 EACH, or even more on Amazon (maybe shipping was not factored in yet at other sites). Seems so ridiculous to charge so much for one little screw, and will need 10 of them since there are 5 burners and they all seem rusted/stuck. Haven't even gotten to checking the inside igniter screws yet since can't get the burners off right now. Thank you ahead of time for any insights!

    The two screws that hold my burners in place are rusted and won’t budge on all 5 burners. I broke one screw head. Do the burners need to be removed to pull the top panel off???!!

    • @edtheoldtechguy
      @edtheoldtechguy  2 года назад +1

      Yes, you need to remove the burners, Here is what I suggest you do. Go to the hardware store and purchase a screw extractor set. Then kill the power on the stove, Make sure to shut off gas on the stove. If you don't have a quality impact driver, now is a good time to consider buying one. Also needed are high-quality bits that fit the star screw. Ok time to work, First, try the impact with the star bit. Did it work, no? then stop do not strip the screw more. Now it's time to try the extractor bit set. Left-handed drilling, then inserts the extractor threaded end, the left-handed or left turning extractor should grab. If this still does not work consider spraying PB blaster and letting it sit on the screws overnight and try extractor again. Warning PB blaster should not be consumed and is flammable so a thorough clean-up with a quality degreaser after this work should be done is highly suggested. Your stove is off-limits to flame or food during and after the repair until it's all cleaned up. If all else fails you will need to drill and retap the threads on those bolts. I am sorry for your troubles and that this is not easier.

    • @edtheoldtechguy
      @edtheoldtechguy  3 года назад +2

      This Bosch stove has an electronic ignitor there is no pilot. The ignitor is hidden inside the oven, under the black metal plate. You will need to remove 2 screws, then the the plate comes up. The ignitor is now exposed and is toward the back of the unit. Its a square boxy thing. Let me know if this helps and if you would like me to make a video on it.

      @@edtheoldtechguy that was my "next" step and I would be comfortable doing it but there were two things. First, according to the diagram for my stove, one burner has a different igniter part number and the Bosch web site says they are out of stock on both....I called to ask a question about whether there really are 2 different igniters and the OOS status and was told to keep checking back. I know there are third party parts places but they only show one igniter for this stove. It might be fine but it would have beengreat if Bosch had a tech person available. Video is great. I’m thinking of buying one. Should I get the Bosch slide in gas range or Samsung? Has yours been reliable so far?

    • @edtheoldtechguy
      @edtheoldtechguy  3 года назад +2

      Honestly not sure how the Samsung would compare. This Bosch slide in stove has held up ok. I have had it for 5 years now. This is the only problem we have had with it. Mind you it is a significant problem when compared to my last stove a Sears Kenmore which is over 20 years old and never had this issue. We gave it away and it's still working strong. I hear though that most stoves these days seem to have this problem. I give this stove a 6 out of 10. The thing I really don't like is all the electronics. Potential for expensive repairs in the future. My suggestion is find a used Wolf or Vicking the ones that do not have any electronics. That's what I wish I would have done. You can go new but avoid as much electronics as possible. Yes it makes it nice to look at but when you have a problem it is difficult to repair. @J - Who? Weigh in bro.

      @@edtheoldtechguy thank you so much! My current stove is a kenmore as well but the oven does not work at all. I was interested in Bosch since I have their dishwasher and am pleased with it. Buying used is a bit risky, I have heard mixed reviews about Viking

    • @edtheoldtechguy
      @edtheoldtechguy  3 года назад +1

      @@Nikolasto77 Yes be careful buying used. I agree the Bosch dishwasher is awesome. I have one as well which is why I wanted a Bosch stove to match. I always wondered if I should have paid extra for the Thermador brand which is still Bosh but their pro brand. If you decide on this stove be careful not to spill stuff that goes in and causes the screws to rust. If I were to purchase a new one I would open it up and add some grease or loosen the screws on the igniters less than a quarter turn so when you have to change them one day you don't have to drill them out. Also instead of drilling, I could have used an easy out bit. Anyways bro I wish you well in your search and may you and the family be happy with your purchase whatever it may be. I have the exact same Bosch stove and let me tell you my experience. I cleaned one burner and the igniter clicked but no flame. I waited for about 10 minutes and it reignited even though there was no moisture to begin with. I then tried to clean another burner, being extra careful. That burner igniter clicked but no flame. I tried again 10 minutes later and the flame came on but the igniter continued to click. I shut it off breifly and tried again but then no flame just clicking. This happened to me last year but corrected itself the following day which is why I did each burner separately. Today it involved two burners, one of which corrected itself. This appliance is definitely not dependable. I find it hard to believe that I need to take apart a stove top when these problems seem to be hit or miss and depend on whether I I cleaned around a burner or not. And the burner covers were aligned correctly.
