The peak was 08-16 when it looked like its really improving and the physics of the ball and the foot movment compare to where the ball aim was looking the most realistic. From fifa 17/18 onwards it looks so so unrealistic, the ball moves weird and too fast as if it can keep going on for ever forward and the foot movment is weird
I played FIFA from the very first one, until ISS Pro 98 came out. Ironically I only got the ISS Pro because it came with a demo of Metal Gear Solid which I was obsessed with. I quickly became more obsesssed with this odd football game where the gameplay was amazing and the players had fake names. I continued with Pro Evo until FIFA 09 came out. I felt like they really overtook Pro Evo that year. There were one or two Pro Evo titles in between that were better, but here I sit, almost 30 years after the first FIFA, a 37 year old dork, still playing FIFA 22. Thanks for making this video. Great memories. The game and community has grown so much since it was a few teenagers in a living room playing 1v1, finding out about new games from magazines! Good times.

Dabbled in a few Pro Evos around 2015 - 2019. Now back with Fifa. Don't enjoy them like I used to though unfortunately.

There is a spot if you hit it correctly w the upper, inner part of your foot, it will bend like this.. but this legit would be the nicest free kick ever irl. Roberto Carlos had one similar I believe

From about 08 to the mid 2010's, they seemed to be aiming for increased realism. Then took a sharp turn towards weird, unrealistic gameplay.
That ended when they realized they can earn the most money from the casual crowd playing FUT
for me, they tried to implement that weird gameplay from fifa 15 onwards. i think the shift in engine in 17 didn't help too. 07-15 was peak fifa
