This is the first video of your I’ve come across! I think you have great taste and illustrated your points so well with your reference photos.

This is the first video of yours I've seen- instantly subscribed! While I don't agree with everything in this video (which I feel like is kinda the point of unpopular opinions lol), you do make very good points about practicality and affordability! I like that your suggestions keep in mind what is achievable/realistic for the average person. Also, I'm diggin your Queen shirt and the reference photos you've used in this video! I did want to mention that the transition music did get to me after a while and got pretty stuck in my head. A minor detail! Great video overall

I so agree with the one about organizing, lately I've been thinking in line of "its just as important to hide (organize) ugly things as it is to add pretty things (perhaps more important)

100% agree with the leggy furniture!! i thrifted a very chunky wood console for my small apartment, it grounds the space and counteracts the visual clutter of my tiny dinning area. I love your idea of different cabinet colors and mimicking a landscape, never thought about it before and you're so right.
Love your videos, they give me so many ideas to implement w the things i already have laying around my home.

I agree with all of them!❤
Also thank you for not hating on laminate countertops, artificial plants and runner rugs next to the bed. I have all three of them in my house! 😂😃

The only one I disagree with is artificial plants. I don't think they ever ever look good, it always looks inauthentic and cheap even if it is an expensive fake. The point of a plant is to bring authentic natural life force energy into a space. If you can't keep a plant alive, I would way recommend just using dried plants or bring in a gorgeous cool dead stick or something that is still comes from a real plant but maybe you don't have to water it. I love dried sticks that still have seed pods or berries attached.

My family really understood the benefits of faux plants after my father got a liver transplant and we had to get rid of all our plants because they were considered a risk to his immune system :)

I have similar circumstances but still can't imagine having plastic plants. Other options are flowers made of metal glass or ceramics or pictures of plants. Also having a nice view with greenery if possible. I'm Japan it's a practice to plant little stone gardens outside a window. Also you could make an airtight biosphere and just open it outside once a week.

I agree with everything except window treatments! I’d rather tack a bed sheet over a window than have it empty, a big dark square at night that I cant see out of feels too spooky!!

100% agree on the laminate countertops and the decluttering. Disagree on the leggy furniture. I like chunky pieces but I covet light spindly delicate little puffs of air masquerading as furniture.

Oh and my mom would so agree with you on the windows. Most of hers have no blinds or curtains she didn't want anything obstructing her view. I personally like a heafty curtain they keep in heat in the winter and keep it out in the summer and since I'm ethically opposed to AC for environmental reasons I need me some good window covers.

lol i’m obsessed with your description of leggy furniture 😭 and that makes sense about the windows & ac. it’s totally dependent on climate & personal preference

I agree about white laminate countertops - but they are actually surprisingly hard to find! I just want to buy a basic white countertop and can't find anything that isn't printed like fake stone.

ugh the struggle is real 🫠 i know ikea sells them, but i’m not in the market for new countertops atm, so i haven’t done much more research than that

In my personal experience, a higher price does not always guarantee better quality. This goes for furniture and other home design, but also for clothes. The middle price point tends to be the best option.

Really loved how concise you are, no unnecessary rumbling. The things i disagree with are laminate countertops being somehow more environmentally friendly. You said "cheaper to replace in the case of damage" while, say, a quartz countertop might not need replacement in like 30 years. So I'd argue that something more solid than laminate would be more eco friendly. However one would have to do some math to know for sure.
And fake plants. Just no. I get that they add a feeling of greenery, but to me it's like blasphemy of sorts, posing plastic as something to "bring nature inside".

    • @anticapitalisthomedesign
      @anticapitalisthomedesign  3 месяца назад

the ikea ones actually have a 25 year warranty. i’d definitely be curious to see the math, but you couldn’t pay me to do it lol. i was also thinking about the process of extracting that much rock from the earth, definitely bad for the environment, although i’m less familiar with the process of making laminate counters…

Yes! Picking a neutral off white for my house has been so difficult! I live in a small 50's house and all the trim, doors and crown molding are painted a creamy off white. I don't want to have to paint all that so I'm trying to find something to go with it that's not too white and not too dark because the house does not get a ton of light from outside. So difficult! I painted a few years ago Valspar Summer Gray and that's pretty close but not quite right because it looks too green at times. I'm going to try Valspar Thousand Shells in my bedroom and see how that looks.
