To be clear, the game story IS fictitious. That was 1 of 2 points that I was told I HAD to make in this video. BUT the story is based on real events. Some Czech boys taking the train across Russia to get home. I guess they took some liberties with the details or something, and wanted it to be clear that elements are fiction.
They weren´t in red army. They deserted from CaK army during WW1 to russia army. During russia revolution they want go home. Sometimes help the white army but usually masacred the red army.
Played 30 Hours already. After all this great releases this year, last train home is one of my favorites, such a good gameplay mix. Love this game and you get really addicted to it.
Like Czech guy,me too,and after ending (still i have many hour to the end) we can try choose the other way :) i mean ,like was the question if do you want go to north or south..i did choose go to north..so then ,when i will have it complete,so then i will try next game and go to south by the train :)
The whites are actually the anti-bolshevik faction during the Russian civil war which the legion joined once they were in Russia, as the reds kept attacking them. Prior to that they were fighting as part of the entente powers in Ukraine on the Eastern front
It's only the tier 1 sniper rifle that has the same range as the standard rifle. Already at tier 2 does the sniper have more range as well as even more with scout's skills and can out-range the maxim guns and almost the anti-tank guns too. You can view each weapon's stats if you hover over them in your inventory or when you select your squad
At the combat ranges the game depicts, even the carbines the grenadiers use would have about similar ranges the long rifles and sniper rifles. I get that it's a game though
Fictitious story? This is one of the most legendary REAL stories of WW1 mate 😅 Granted the details of the campaign missions are probably made up here and there like in all CoH games.
@@Zerkovich oh, I also just noticed- you mentioned that the czechoslovaks were on the side of reds, which is not really correct- they fought with the russian empire, and had a kind of peace treaty with the red after the political takeover.
Yeah so... first of all, Czechoslovak legion never fought for the reds man, it fought with Russian imperial army against Central Powers (Austro-Hungarian Empire and Germany). After the break up of Russia some historians say that the legion fought for the Whites, others say they did not pick any side, however I didn ´t hear anybody saying they fought for the reds. Second of all, it is actually not fiction, it is what you would say heavily inspired by real events as this really happened. But great video nontheless :) Thanks man!
There were several fractions of whites and reds, it was a mess and Russia is really a big country and it was time with no cell phones, so it was everything totaly random before proper bolshevik government was established. Czechoslovak legion was doing what they had to to survive and get out of there. They actually captured leader of whites and gave him to reds. Both sides were criminals and murderers, it doesn't matter if you cooperate with whites or reds in this moment.
@@Carinthian_Oak yeah I feel that it have that quality, but I’m still playing surviving the aftermath (got it free from Epic) so I might purchase it after I finish surviving
The live action stuff might be from a live reenactment/LARP they do with actors. Lindybeige did a video where he went on the reenactment, I definitely recommend checking it out.
It wasn't. The LARP is something different entirely. The live action stuff was filmed with the cooperation of Československá Obec Legionářská (a nonprofit organization that focuses on educating the public about Czechoslovak Legionaires, while also doing charities for veterans and such), using their Legiotrain (which is a fully functional train, but transformed into a museum to show what the life of Legionaires was like). Aside of the actor playing Langer, all of the extras are members of ČsOL.
3 snipers/scouts + 3 riflemen is all you need for stealth gameplay without any ammo shot (which you can sell and do fancy upgrades instead), I was able to buy 4th wagon in the depot for 10K and still lots of items and some money left :D
my only gripe is that the artillery car wasn't available from the start or close to it. also I wish there was an alternate firing mode where you could pop all of the mortars all at once or in a line. would've been cool too if we had an innacurate scatter plot firing mode but with more ammo as an upgrade that could clear a small camp by itself.
The Anthony Beevor book the civil war in Russia discusses this scenario. There was an exodus across Russia by train of people trying to escape the Red Army; including a army from Eastern Europe. I don't think historically there was much range difference between a sniper rifle and normal rifle. Just the skill of the shooter and optics. Also anti tank weapons would not be common unless a field gun was handy. Anti tank rifles were large and unwieldy. There was a lot of cavalry still in use at this point but some civilian cars were commandeered for use by soldiers.
This is definitely a game that I'll be checking out, there was this turn based game that I wanted to get back into, it had a cold war style theme and you had a control several agents, think it was phantom doctrine. XD
@Zerkovich you need to give Iron Harvest a play. It’s another damn good RTS in a WW2 alternate timeline, the ‘Scythe’ timeline, and they also have the immersive languages option too with a real nice story going on.
I know the studio said they were given access to one of the reproduction cars that the Czech government uses as a museum for teaching this history; apparently the guy who plays Captain Langer is a well-known Czech actor as well. My hunch is that, given the subject matter, they may have had a little bit of financial assistance from the government in some way, maybe an Arts fund or something
Because the soviet leadership declared the Legionaries to be the enemy of Russia, and since most of the Red army troops were still sitting near the ex-frontlines in the west, the decision was made that the only possible way to break through would be the east, since it had enough checkpoints and a good enough railway to accomodate for the number of legionares while offering less resistance to plow through. It was ghe most optimal and logical choice.
