Between the two, I would choose the 90D. Reasons: 1. Form factor - larger body and flip-out/articulating screen. 2. Color science 3. Canon’s menu system 4. Battery - The LPE6 battery is used in so many Canon cameras.
After recording with my phone for like 3 years, I finally bought a camera (Canon M6 Mk 2) and it is mindblowing the difference it made. My most recent vid and the one before are universes apart. I spent so long trying to make a careful choice on camera, but it was just such a jump in quality, I think I would have been happy with anything.
I've had both. Because of my "A-cam" being the C200 I've really been thinking about the 6D MkII. I LOVE the A6600 but its so much work to get colors to match the C200
One camera is a hybred and other is video centered. One needs a lot more money spent. On a lot of additional components and gear. The other does not. I will take either the canon 90D or the Sony A6600.
I started an outdoor adventure channel earlier this year. Only 7 videos and 140 subs so far, but each video gets a bit better. There is so much to learn about every aspect of RUclips, cameras, sound, editing, and everything else. Still, great fun!
Nothing mentioned about better menu system, ergonomics, balance, feel in hand, customer support, etc. All of which would go in favor of the D90. Also, the image stabilization is available in the lenses for the Canon.. Minolta does this well too. Fujifilm and Sony make great cameras, however, you have to weigh the whole package to decide. For me, the Canon is a no brainer.
If you pay $14 you can buy the “visioncolor” profiles for any Canon to get 2 profiles: 1 Teal and Orange Cinema colors straight in camera (use it for all my current videos!) and a Log flat profile to grade yourself. Highly recommend!
I plan on buying the Sony a6600 because I have the Sony a6300 and already love it as a camera. Your video just made me hesitant as I might have to color grade. There are so many good choices!

You didn't mention 3 very important things, in which Canon 90D really blows out Sony mirrorrless Aps-C cameras: 1. Ergonomics - Canon fits much better in hands, especially with a bigger lens, and all the buttons are right where you needed 2. Battery life - Those tiny NP-FW50 batteries are just simply ridiculous, on field you must bring a few spares especially when recording 4K and max screen brightness, it'll go down faster than an ice-cream on a Miami afternoon. 3. Overheating - sadly, A6600, like the other Sony mirrorrless too, it suffers from overheating issue, especially on long recording sessions, that small compact body is just way too cramped and cannot dissipate all the heat, so after 25 - 40 minutes of 4K recording in warmer areas it will shut down. P.S. - I'm a Sony owner :-D
That's unfortunate. So even with limitless recording the a6600 still shuts down or overheats? 😕 I agree about the ergonomics, main reason I keep coming back to Canon cameras. The A7Riii really caught my eye, but it's also a little expensive. 😕
Considering that these two ecosystems have two different lens paths, it gets a little tricky for long-term use. For now, I'm just getting started, so I'll probably go with Canon.

I'm a year a year+ too late but this was perfect. Please let me know if you have a better recommendation since you shot this vid! I've been contemplating this for weeks but I think I'm going to go with the Canon 90D for the reasons you mentioned in the vid (I'm just starting out and prefer quick and easy for now). Plus when you're spending this much money on a setup and need to pay for lighting, external mics, and so on 200 bucks makes a big difference!

The real reason I went with the a6600 I wanted a smaller camera and it had a lot of features in a small package And I recommend if you get this camera to get the Small Rig left side cold shoe bracket so you mount the mic on the side and see your screen when it flipped up in selfie mode
The canon doesn't have basic video features like zebras or peaking. It does have better colors, but I hate rewarding businesses that intentionally cripple their products in dumb ways

I wouldn't say that the sony is better camera, i would say its more advance. I am a sony shooter and i love all the specs and video quality but canon colors science has no rival out of the box .I think the only thing the canon needs is 4K60 , in body stabilization is not very important when you have a gimbal or glide cam.
You didn’t mention that the battery life is better with the 90D and that there are way more lenses available for people to grow into with experience with the 90D too 😍

Of course! Nikons are also great cameras. Just like every camera, you have to learn and adapt to it to see if it fits YOUR personal needs. If there’s no huge problems with the Nikon then use it and make the most amazing content you can with it 😲

How does optical lens stabilization on the camera impact the image on the Canon? Since thumbnails are important for RUclips, does the Canon also provide better color for photos out of the camera? Related to photos and usually being a solo content creator, do both cameras have an option to remotely take photos for thumbnails. It is my understanding that I can use the Canon App on my phone to manage taking photos. Does Sony also have the feature?
I prefer 90D because I am a photographer and videographer, almost 50% and 50%. I mean, I'm a cameraman and editor, as well as a photographer. In whatever job I do, they will most likely put any camera in my hands to get the job done; but if it is for me; if it's going to be for me to use in my own projects...90D toe-to-toe. And photography is an important issue and in the 90D it is much better, in addition to the wide variety of lenses available for that mount, the battery life and the amount of accessories that exist for the 90D. And I don´t know but i think it is more robust.
Nolan, what do you think about the Sony a6600 vs the Sony AX100? I know it’s camera vs camcorder, but similar pricing and I really only shoot video. I’ve seen some low light video of the AX100, and I’m pretty impressed. Just wondering what Think Media’s take on this is?
i agree with the fact that the 90D just looks better out of camera, i don't want to be or have time for color grading, that's why i own the 90D its my main shooter even at weddings, my other body is the 5D mark 3 hoping to get my hands on the R6 or 5 one of these days.
You must consider the only way to get an ultra wide look on the Sony is an over priced 900 lens. If you're not going beyond 30 min recordings, get the Canon.

I love my 90D with a Sigma 18-35mm f1.8! I use a neutral profile and in post I add a bit of lumetri and it looks great! No fuzz! but my a6400 has way better 4k...but I love using my 90D a lot more! LOL...I will get a Sony FX30 soon...that one may be a good one..
@@topshelf223 hey...on 4k the a6400 is a lot better than the Canon 90D in 4k cropped..but the footage of the Canon 90D is pleasant! it sure makes faces look good...I shoot weddings sometimes and brides DO NOT want to see their imperfections in glorious 4k! Lots of them want me to use plugins to soften the skin! seriously! I dont have time for that! But for most 4k shoots, the a6400 is better. In 1080p the 90D is a little better depending of the lens. I only use a Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 on the Canon and that is great. I use a variable ND if I have to...I aim to shoot at f1.8-2.8...However I decided to get the FX30. I don't know how to use Slog but I will start with a modified S-cinetone. The default is too oversaturated and contrasty...I need footage I can use right away or that needs little work. Lumetri is fine. One day I will be a filmmaker...but not yet!

The "clean" feed over hdmi of the 90D seems to be forcing 30 frames though. If you want to record in 25 or 24 Frames, that is a big issue, because you will get stutters. Also I heard the 90D doesn't have real unlimited runtime over hdmi, since it requires you to press the shutter button every 30 min or so. Which makes it even with hdmi recording unsuitable to record events, concerts or live stream. Very sad Imo.. RIP Canon

Also it is important to mention that the sony weights 500gr while Canon 700gr. If you already have a gimbal that's something to keep in mind

What lens was used on the Canon for the 4k test? I had similar issues with the 18-35mm until I got it calibrated and have seen a huge improvement.

The kit lenses are typically garbage. Put a decent prime on it and you will be amazed.

Rolling shutter on the Sony in 4K is terrible. Walk around with the camera and the picture wobbles all over the place.

@@topshelf223 hey...on 4k the a6400 is a lot better than the Canon 90D in 4k cropped..but the footage of the Canon 90D is pleasant! it sure makes faces look good...I shoot weddings sometimes and brides DO NOT want to see their imperfections in glorious 4k! Lots of them want me to use plugins to soften the skin! seriously! I dont have time for that! But for most 4k shoots, the a6400 is better. In 1080p the 90D is a little better depending of the lens. I only use a Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 on the Canon and that is great. I use a variable ND if I have to...I aim to shoot at f1.8-2.8...However I decided to get the FX30. I don't know how to use Slog but I will start with a modified S-cinetone. The default is too oversaturated and contrasty...I need footage I can use right away or that needs little work. Lumetri is fine. One day I will be a filmmaker...but not yet!
@@TheFandangovideoguy Ty that helps a lot. I’m so stuck and can’t decide how to pull the strings. The 90d and the 6600 are the same prices at 1k but add 800 more and you can get the fx30. I know I want the fx30 but my wallets says shut up. So for now the 90d and 6600 is my option. Even the Sony zve. Appreciate your input, thanks

Did you use high quality 4k on 90D? It makes difference.
I think if you already have efs ef glass the canon makes total sense. If you do not have any lenses go Sony or another mirrorless camera.
The "clean" feed over hdmi of the 90D seems to be forcing 30 frames though. If you want to record in 25 or 24 Frames, that is a big issue, because you will get stutters. Also I heard the 90D doesn't have real unlimited runtime over hdmi, since it requires you to press the shutter button every 30 min or so. Which makes it even with hdmi recording unsuitable to record events, concerts or live stream. Very sad Imo.. RIP Canon
So there is no way to turn off the shut off on the 90D? My sl2 is struggling with low light even though my lens is 2.8
