I've watched this show start to finish four times, with the first time, I believe, being in either '17 or '18. It gets better with every single watching. An actual masterpiece.
It was a show that required some serious attention to the dialogue as well as the action of the characters. People have less patience for this in the "instant gratification" of the twenty-first century and the new millennium.
In my humble opinion, the best tv show ever produced. Perfect cast, incredible soundtrack, some of the scenes are near perfect ( special mention to Matt confronting Burton/God).. it's an amazing emotionnal rollercoaster that will let you puzzled and wonder many years later.
Unfortunately, most people give up exactly because they compare it to Lost in some way. The "big mystery" is not the focus of show and the pace is VERY slow if you are expecting something big happening (it wont). When you understand that the show is not your casual end of the world show, you will a masterpiece instead.
@@fabiorodrigo3638 I think he fixed a lot of the issues that lost had. Instead of focusing on the mystery he just let the mystery be (intended) and instead focused on how it affects the characters and their relationships.
I was intrigued when my partner and I watched the pilot episode and the interview with Justin Theroux, Scott Glenn and Liv Tyler. All actors I admire. 24-02-24 1:17
I know at the time it aired at lot of people were mad that it wasn’t a religious show about “the rapture” and didn’t immediately explain what happened. But I always saw that as a fundamental misunderstanding of the story that was even set up to tell. It’s a show watching people cope with grief in every imaginable way. It’s painful to watch but it’s well worth doing so.
Its incredibly funny during some very serious moments, it's because some scenes feels so deranged and out of touch. For example, *minor spoiler incoming* (or reminder if u watched it): A main character is found choking himself with a plastic bag, a few seconds later he says "lets a have a baby" to his significant other, and she starts to laugh uncontrollably while he looks really uncomfortable and distressed. Its one of my favourite scenes due to it being so weird, funny and serious at the same time.
The "bleakest" show i have ever watched, but touched on things as a human being that i doubt we will ever experience again! I do recommend a pallet cleanser for after, I used to watch "the last man on earth" to balance it out!😎
Trying not to include spoilers but I wish they'd consider what the "other side" looked like. The ending was very emotionally charged and quite satisfactory. Much better than Lost.
Apparently, the people on "the other side" have to continue their lives and deal with a much greater number of losses, if you understand they represent the nineteen /snr “Departed", and that, for them- eighty-one per cent of the Earth’s human population has disappeared and they have no explanation for that. I tried to imagine what that would be like if it really happened, and how my brain would attempt to logically comprehend it. 1:17, 24-02-24
I must agree with you on that; Max [Richter] is a very gifted composer and musician, and I’ve been wondering how they managed to secure his contract for the original soundtrack and score that’s very distinct to the first season of the series. It sets the mood and tone to "The Departure" and its aftermath on the various characters in "The Leftovers". It's also the musical theme people have come to associate with the show. I got the original soundtrack from Apple Music - no charge, and the music for the other seasons can be found (though I didn’t really like the music featured for the opening credits in the following years). ☮︎︎✌︎︎
