The LEFTOVERS rules!!!! 21 Jump Street Captain Fuller - Dont forget him!
In retrospect, I have dvds of many sci fi series from the 80s and 90s, but only B5 seems as fresh and new watching it now, its storytelling is incredible and the effects somehow look 'right' - far better than more modern effects most of the time. One of the best written shows of all time.
I've watched this show start to finish four times, with the first time, I believe, being in either '17 or '18. It gets better with every single watching. An actual masterpiece.
The "bleakest" show i have ever watched, but touched on things as a human being that i doubt we will ever experience again! I do recommend a pallet cleanser for after, I used to watch "the last man on earth" to balance it out!😎
Welp.. Time to rewatch for the 6th time,
In my humble opinion, the best tv show ever produced. Perfect cast, incredible soundtrack, some of the scenes are near perfect ( special mention to Matt confronting Burton/God).. it's an amazing emotionnal rollercoaster that will let you puzzled and wonder many years later.
Here's another unknown fact, the main character in The Leftovers, Justin Theroux, was a cowriter of the movie Tropic Thunder
Dark,heavily influenced by Twin Peaks.
The Prisoner was absolutely brilliant
Max ritcher's music was something beyond words. A complete show for me in every possible way❤
Honorable mention? To me B5 is better than Trek and Twiliight Zone. /shrug.
When I was a Network and Unix admin for UC Riverside in the 90's I had a dual channel ISDN circuit (fast 144 kbps LOL) direct from my home to the University. I was on the newsgroups and remember the posts from Straczynski. My older brother had an editing studio and I convinced him to get the Video Toaster.. Ahh, those were the days.
This show was ahead of its time. If it was out today as new it would be so big 😊
Carrie Coon is Incredible in the leftovers. She deserved to be showered with awards imo
you forgot the riget (1994) by lars von trier
Trier sucks dude
If your such a fan, at least learn to say Susan Ivanova's name correctly.
The show was great.
One of the greatest shows ever. Alan was and is a genius 🇬🇧💯
The scene that is referred to is when the character Jawbreaker, decides to end his life because he can't get It up when he was fooling around with a nurse.
Show sounds more fun with an Irish brogue
Scottish! But close guess!
If you have lost someone you will see that this is easily the best show ever made
I can't say it's the best series of all time, though I believe it could be argued so, depending where you are coming from. But I can say this: Nothing compares to The Leftovers. Nothing. It might not be the best, but it's right there and in a class of its own. It's a crime no emmys were awarded to Justin Theroux and Carrie Coon, there is no other way to put it. If you like drama, The Wire, Sopranos, this stuff, then do yourself a favor and watch this. But don't binge! This is not a dish to be enjoyed hastily. Sorrow never is.
the best musical choice in the show was Max Richter, to be fair
I must agree with you on that; Max [Richter] is a very gifted composer and musician, and I’ve been wondering how they managed to secure his contract for the original soundtrack and score that’s very distinct to the first season of the series. It sets the mood and tone to "The Departure" and its aftermath on the various characters in "The Leftovers". It's also the musical theme people have come to associate with the show. I got the original soundtrack from Apple Music - no charge, and the music for the other seasons can be found (though I didn’t really like the music featured for the opening credits in the following years). ☮︎︎✌︎︎
What a great list, thankyou so much! I'm excited to get started.
Loved that show. Watched it after I watched Watcmen.
I was intrigued when my partner and I watched the pilot episode and the interview with Justin Theroux, Scott Glenn and Liv Tyler. All actors I admire. 24-02-24 1:17
The amount of story and character development they jammed into three seasons, is absolutely commendable
Twin Peaks was cancelled in 1991. FAIL!
The OA. Check. I love how many of them have that white fog
Wild palms looks amazing
North n the xposure check
Nowehwr man shall check😊
I’ll never understand how it didn’t have better views. I loved it. So much.
It was a show that required some serious attention to the dialogue as well as the action of the characters. People have less patience for this in the "instant gratification" of the twenty-first century and the new millennium.
Trying not to include spoilers but I wish they'd consider what the "other side" looked like. The ending was very emotionally charged and quite satisfactory. Much better than Lost.
Apparently, the people on "the other side" have to continue their lives and deal with a much greater number of losses, if you understand they represent the nineteen /snr “Departed", and that, for them- eighty-one per cent of the Earth’s human population has disappeared and they have no explanation for that. I tried to imagine what that would be like if it really happened, and how my brain would attempt to logically comprehend it. 1:17, 24-02-24
+ Scott Glenn and Christopher Eccleston; what a cast.
I am beyond delighted that we're getting a new animated movie this year, Babylon 5: The Road Home. Even after all these years and even with other sci-fi franchises overshadowing it, the Babylon 5 love still endures.
Harlan Ellison was creative consultant
Don't listen to the reviews for this show. It is a massive piece of crap. The show's writer Damon Lindelof has ONE trick. The same trick he used on Lost and Prometheus. He writes a bunch of weird random stuff and then strings you along, episode after episode, NEVER explaining any of it. The poor viewer keeps watching hoping the next episode will explain something, but no it never does. In the Leftovers there are a thousand questions that you will never know the answer to. Slight Spoilers Below. But how can you spoil something that is never revealed? Where did the Departed go? We never find out. One person says they know but all the clues say they are lying. Why does the Cult wear white, not talk, and chain smoke? Damn if I know. Is Kevin really immortal? Your guess is as good as mine. Was Patti real? Was the Hotel real? Could Wayne really take away pain? Was he really a "magical" being? Wayne kept saying that the baby was special, yet nothing happens with the baby. In fact they just write it out of the show by season three. On and on. A million plot points introduced with ZERO resolution and enough loose ends to weave a sweater.
If you’re still questioning what happened to the departed, then you missed the whole f’n point. I’ll be honest, I was very curious about where they went and became a little frustrated as season 1 went along. By the end of S1 and definitely during S2, I became way more intrigued about the chaos and depravity of those left behind. I stopped questioning it and just enjoyed the story.
1:06 that hair though. and the smirk on the guits great people still rewatch it or new fans find it years later ys face. i loved b5 and OMG the little boy from tz was lanier ! wow
Good review.. you should read JMS’s autobiography ‘Becoming Superman: My Journey From Poverty to Hollywood’. His success is more incredible when he shares where he came from and what he had to bear.
I never even heard about this show - until yesterday ...- when I noticed one of the psychological analysis vids (on the character Kevin). I've no doubt - had they went more aggressive in marketing/promos - there would have been MASSIVE viewership. What a great show/story!
Listen…I’ll be the guy who says what we’re all thinking: I’d let Liv Tyler do ANYTHING to me 😂 if you know then you know.
Jan De Bont has a collaboration with Steven Spielberg.
This is the absolute worst show I've ever seen.
LMAO!!! 😂😂what makes you say that? What was so bad about it?
Worse than 'Two Broke Girls'?
@@LeisureEnthusiast22I'd rather watch the entire series of Barney & Friends before watching The Leftovers again, tbh. It'd be more intellectually stimulating, at least.
Any real fan of the show would know how Ivanova was pronounced.
Dude, that was an amazing summary, thanks for explaining why we’ll never see another Jan de Bont film.
I just binged this show this week, the music was amazing, especially the use of "Where is my mind" and "You're the one that I want"
When you put up the "Goodbye, Farewell" clip, I involuntarily teared up and felt my chest getting tight, that last episode does that to me every time.
This is a really great video, I'm surprised this channel isn't bigger....
Thanks for the kind words!
Always loved this series, nice facts on it thank you
I am so glad i discovered it back in the days. I even emailed with Sandra Bruckner about them using glasses at the helm(with anti glare coating). In star trek the consoles blew up reguraly and i thought using security glasses(or just glasses at all) was a good idea. Never saw a better series though i loved some other ones like Farscape and Star Trek DS9.
