And believe me, my Monday couldn't get any crappier. While I would never do what Sarah is doing (i.e., shoehorn a V-8 into a Celica), it is both fascinating and entertaining to watch her doing anything!
A master of shoving big things into tight holes… thanks for your input. I mean it writes itself really 😂 That being said…. Another sick build in the works!! 😊
Angel is adding to your channel in a great way. I'm now subscribed to him as well. Having a second engine that's an exact fit was just what you needed. Hoping the rebuilt engine arrives sooner than promised.
@@SarahnTuned ... Definitely a big step in the engine swap concept. I had considered looking for a Miata from the flood zone and powering it with a Buick T Type 3800 and O.D. automatic. I still think it could be accomplished, but I'm running out of time and too busy with my job and trying to get my affairs ready for the end. Maybe I can get a few bikes running instead.
@@SarahnTuned Wow this is awesome I just found this channel👍🔔✅😁My'ne was a 75 GT 7-up can green/white vinyl and a 22R... I ended up wrecking it real bad but I also had a 75 ST and I hung on to it forever with plans of putting a smallblock or something in it... because of that nice solid frame that runs through 'em
I know you've stated it before, but I'm glad you film all the dismantling steps of the tear down, unlike a lot of other channels. Very satisfying to see all the attention to detail.
This gets me excited! There was a guy over here in Perth , Western Australia, going back over 12 years ago, that did a gt4 driveline swap into this model Celica, the donor car was a crashed Carlos Sainz gt4. It was an incredible machine once it was finished .
You are a smart, capable, and clever technician. I learn new things from you on a regular basis. Most of the things I learn are in the "tribal knowledge" category, the stuff that you never learn from books, but only from working on mechanical stuff for an extended period. I know your training was in aviation, but it translates well. You are impressive. Bonus: I enjoy your banter/commentary. Consistently. Thank you for sharing!!
Regarding filming every bolt because there is no other online content like this for that model I just want to say thank you. While I don't own this car I do own an uncommon trim of a popular car and find it very difficult to get detailed information on things specific to that trim. So I really appreciate that you are so giving to the automotive community in this way. Also that looks like an incredibly big engine in a small space, I can't wait to see it in place!
This will be a climatic build! A LOT of in/out, shoving that big thing in that tight hole... It will be very satisfying in the end, when it all comes together! 😁
Don't know how your channel showed up on my RUclips feed, but I'm intrigued with this process. A friend of mine had a 75 Celica. I want to see how this turns out.
Just either smiled or laughed all the way through. Sarah (and friends) lovers know why. We love cars, but we also love the humour, the reviews (which are outstanding by the way), the skill, the knowledge, the attention to detail, the learnings, the tenacity!! The general entertaining...ing. I was thinking this evening that if this was produced by a team of 30, it would be less entertaining, and....generic. So, while we know you work stupid hours, we are behind you 100% and love you guys. Cos we get to sit on the sofa. And watch you work those stupid hours. This is the best channel on RUclips. Love from NZ.
Knowing how long this project is going to take (waiting on your engine to be returned), I would be paranoid about remembering the placement and hardware of everything you removed (even with notes). Of course, I forget what I had for breakfast. Charlie in your videos is always a win. This build is awesome. Thank you, Sarah. 👍👍👍
XAT Racing 2uz V8 dry sump oil pan kit. It uses a Moroso Dry sump oil pump. Sadly the pump is installed in th AC compressor location. Food for thought. Love your channels!
There is a smaller brake booster that fits these that are made for the ae86 as well. I have it on my 73 celica currently. also for a new clutch master cylinder, a mk3 supra one fits
I feel you on that Harbor Freight engine hoist. I drilled an extra hole in the main tube so it would extend a couple inches further and shortened the front legs a couple inches. I just had to make sure I wasn't overloading it or getting it off balance.
Sarah, please keep doing it the way you do, attention to detail is the key. It helped so much with the TT videos, this is speaking from experience as I own a 2006 TT and go back to the videos as a point of reference, very much a “What would Sarah do now”. Really looking forward to seeing the result of a big V8 in to such a small/light car, all that weight at the front and driving the rears…. that’s going to be fun…..Sarah you even mentioned a AE86, had one around in the mid 80’s sweet 1600cc OHC, so much fun….but very tail happy.
I had a 73 Celica, took out the original 18R and dropped a JDM 18RG twin cam rebuilt by TRD when they were a little shop down the street from Kings Hawaiian Bakery in Gardena, Ca.
"Master of shoving big things in small holes" followed by "Thanks for your input" - two lots of coffee sprayed over my monitor and keyboard - thanks Sarah!!
I haven't watched your videos in a while but I'm definitely watching these cause I'm a huge Celica fan. I don't remember nearly as many innuendos in your old videos 🤣 between the awesome build and the inappropriate jokes, you're freaking ridiculous and I'm here for it

Whaaaaat!! Two Celica installments in 3 days? Best Monday ever!! The engine bay in the Celica makes my old Vega’s engine bay look roomy. I’m also digging Rally car Angel’s working on. Great content.
Sarah, it's your choice and everything, but I think everyone who watches your channel is more in awe of your production values and technical skills than how nice your hair looks. Tie those locks up. I had to guard a crime scene in a university machine shop because an engineer got her hair caught in some equipment. Snapped her neck in half. Be careful.
10.05. Bless you Sarah. That was the best sneeze ever. You looked so beautyfull and attractive when you sneezed naturally with a make up on your face. Dont be shy, dont block your sneezes, it is not recommendable or healthy. Keep on with the videos...Greetings
When you're done, I believe your weight distribution should be even better than factory. I remember when I did the math if I'd done this swap on my XR4Ti and using a Ford 9" rearend I was going to be around 51/49 weight distribution, which would have been quite impressive for handling.
I had to cut the firewall a lot when I did my 1UZ engine swap on my 1980 Chrysler Avenger wagon (Plymouth Cricket in the States). I had to cut all the way back to the handbrake, but I managed to hide it all and make it look pretty factory. I had the same problem with the headers and the steering column, luckily the Avengers have rack and pinion so I just needed to modify the headers to go around the steering column
The engine should weigh nearly 200lbs more than the 18RC. IMO a 2GR-FE, which is the 3.5L V6, would make a better fit as it comes close to the weight of the 18RC, and would be easier to obtain accessories and parts for.
What an awesome project! I love your choice in cars to mod and the fact that this one is a 74 Celica with a 2UZ Toyota V8 is even better. can't wait to see the progress. Best of luck.
Glad you’re back on the Celica again Sarah!! Hopefully you’ll get it done before Halloween if you don’t melt during those wonderful 150 degree summer days! 😊 Can’t wait to see the finished product. With the incredible detail you put into the Ranger, it will turn out amazing!! Have you decided on wheels and tires yet?
Still think BEST project you’ve ever done😁. I might have missed it, but did you compare the weights of the two engines out of interest? ( I did wonder if transmission tunnel might need most mods as I’m guessing could be huge difference compared to old skinny gearbox?)
126lbs difference wet weight between the engines, however, the Ford 9" rear axle will weigh more out back as well as the battery relocation. I'm also ditching a few accessories and the cast iron exhaust manifolds for lighter ones, the finished weight distribution should be extremely close to original.
@@SarahnTuned So it actually turns out to be a good thing that the 18R-C was a heavy boi, makes the weight distribution a lot simpler to keep the same. Neat. To look at the two engines you wouldn't think the 2UZ would only be 126 pounds more, but I guess one of the reasons the R-series were so bulletproof was that they were built very stout.
