I am just starting with gouache and bought the 5 tube set that you just reviewed for $27. I played around with them, mixing all my own colors until I was sure I liked the medium - you’re right! That cyan is really strong! Eventually, I invested in a 24 tubes set, just for the convenience. I’m really happy with Holbein. I’m still a beginner, but learning fast! Thank you for all your helpful content.
You are "formidable"!!!! I am in the US and love Holbein gouache and watercolors. Please keep teaching us! Here and on Skillshare! I am in my 70s and cannot afford many subscriptions but you are tres inspiring! Merci.
I have Schmincke Horadam, Winsor & Newton, Holbein and MGraham. I love the vibrancy of the Holbein colors and the creamy nature of the MGraham and Schmincke gouache.
Hi Cecile, i love your videos on Gouache and watercolor. I learn alot and was needing your help with gouache since i just started to use it. I bought the Holbien set and now i feel a bit more confident to get started. Thank you, Merci :)
I'm delighted to have found your channel. I'm new to gouache and using the Holbein set of 12 (5ml) colors. So far, I'm loving them and looking forward to doing a lot more with them. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. And YAY! for flattering light. 😄
I use Holbein also and I love it! Especially since the first gouache I used was 10 dollars for 24 tubes 😮 when mixed they made weird colors and felt gooey and sticky. I didn’t enjoy them and thought well gouache wasn’t for me until this channel opened my eyes and showed me the light 🎉❤ now that I have artists quality my gouache experience has been amazing even though I’m totally a newbie 😂Thank you so much for your informative videos and easy to understand advice, tips and encouragement 😊
@@CecileYadro This primary set concept is really perfect for beginner artist, and art students, or artist who don't really want to spend on more than several paints 💸... this encourages practicing more on color mixing. 🎨⚪️🔵🔴🟡⚫️🖌🌟
I got this set for 16€ at a recent Jackson's Holbein sale, thanks to this and your colour mixing video. These paints are from a different level, just amazing. Thanks for the recommendation and the very useful videos, Cecile.
Thank you for making this part of your portrait class! I look forward to painting this one, maybe getting some Holbein to test 🥰 I appreciate you supporting us this way. I also have your cactus 🌵 class and look forward to taking more classes with you!! 🙏🏻❤️🎨
I’m getting to grips with gouache using Schmincke Akademie Gouache, it’s the only gouache I’ve found that comes in 60ml tubes and it’s cheaper than the Horadam and even some of the Winsor and newton colours which come in tiny tubes. And because the Akademie tubes are soooo big, it goes a long way to preventing me becoming precious about the paint and not wanting to waste fancy paint while I’m still learning! Not that the Schmincke Akademie isn’t fancy or good (it’s VERY good), there’s just so much more of it and it’s a lot cheaper. I do have a 60ml tube of Horadam white cause I’ve been told that if you want to upgrade one of your paints, the white would be the one to upgrade. I also have the Akademie white so I use both depending on what I’m using the white for. Falling deeply in love with gouache and always look forward to my 9pm painting sessions!❤️ I’d like to try Holbein but the price is the same as the Winsor and Newton here, if not more.
I like your attitude, getting the most quality you can afford, with large quantities so you're not afraid to use it. And Schmincke Akademie is a good paint.
Hi Cecile. I was considering this small Holbein 5pc set to complement watercolours, and I needed a review I could trust. Decided to see if you had one and yes you do! Thk you. Now I know what to do.
Hi Cecile - I love your videos and I learn so much from you. And on top of that you are a joy to see and listen to, you have such kind and positive energy 💚💜🩷 Is Holbein still your favorite gouache paint? If you only consider the quality and feel of it and not look at price and availability, which gouache paint would you choose? 🤓
i have used several brands, and i think the holbein and mgraham are at top of my list.. the holbein is also easy for me to find at my art supply store( blicks) the pigment load is amazing !! thx for this video, cecile.. norakag 👍👍
Schmincke is only slightly more expensive in The Netherlands with Talens from €3,50, W&N from €5,85, Holbein from €7,25 and Schmincke Horadam from €8,25 for 15ml
Thank you so much! This is exactly what I've been looking for. I would also love to see you try the Caran d'Ache brand. I have used many of their other products and found them to be superior to most options on the market, but that doesn't mean it's true of gouache. Gouache seems to be a very specialized market, and I don't want to make assumptions here based on other C d'A products.
Thank you, Cecile, it's very useful as usual. I went this afternoon to the art store and I didn't find the Holbein. Seems that in France the Linel is the easiest to find. Would you recommend it as much as the Holbein ?
I use Schmincke Akademie (4.99€ for 60ml) as I am just beginning. I recently got some gouache from UMTON, a 🇨🇿 Czech company to test them out. I live in 🇩🇪 and Lefranc & Bourgeois is easy to finds well as Pébéo. What do you think of this last one?
wow... I bought 4 horadam gouache colours for 6 euro each but yeah its converted in my money which is the romanian leu and its very expensive for us too....... also Ive been wondering si vous ferez des videos en francais?

So far, I think that Holbein has the highest vibrancy in colors!

I love love Holbein. It's all I use. It took awhile to build my collection.
This is my favorite brand too, although I do have other brands too.
I have recently tried the lefranc bourjois gouache and wow - it was very nice!
Yes, I like the Linel by Lefranc & Bourjois
I recently got a mixing set of Pebeo gouache as part of a kit and was very pleasantly surprised.
Happy painting!

Holbein forever!!! (until I change my mind one day, but so far, so good!)

Hi Nora! I don't like M Graham, they contain honey, and it can mould inside an airtight palette, so I avoid using them.
Thank you for the review. I’m tossing up between Holbein, Schminke Designer and Shin Han artist gouache.
How is Shin Han? it’s a very low price, so I’m curious about the quality!
Schmincke is only slightly more expensive in The Netherlands with Talens from €3,50, W&N from €5,85, Holbein from €7,25 and Schmincke Horadam from €8,25 for 15ml
It reallly depends on the country you live in!
This is gorgeous!! I love your portraits

Good point! I didn't think of this one, I add it to the list.
Great video! I found it very helpful, since I'm trying to get into gouache. thanks for the info.

No, not as much! it’s a good brand though, but not the best one!

I'm using T7 by Pebeo, it's a good gouache.
Holbein also makes many oil medium
Yes
Wonderful tutorial. I am sold on Holbein based on this. Thank you. I would like to know what the palette is that you used in this video, please.
It’s the primary set: cyan, magenta, lemon yellow, black and white
@@CecileYadro Thanks for your reply, C. I was actually referring to the physical palette you were using not the paint.
que pensez vous de la teinte terre d'ombre brulée chez Holbein? sur le nuancier elle parait grise?
Non, elle est très bien!
I live in portugal and is hard to find holbein could you suggest another gouche with the same quality and price? Love your vids!!
My second choice would be Winsor and Newton
Why do people say that Holbein is sticky? Do you find them to be sticky?
Absolutely not! perfectly creamy!
I have Holbein gouache but saw in a recent video that a lot of Holbein gouache is not lightfast. Are you concerned about lightness? Thanks
It’s not specific to Holbein. All brands have pigments that are less lightfast than others: cecileyadro.com/gouache-and-lightfastness/
Thank you for the information!
💗💓💖 Great review!
Thanks you!
Would you please do a review of the Shinhan guache
Maybe one day!
Have you tried turner gouache?
Not yet, it's on my plans!
Would you kindly share where you bought your ceramic pallet? Thank you.
It's not ceramic, it's plastic: amzn.to/3qCrL4o
