NOTE: the synth's keys aren't 100% so I trigger the Juno 2 from a MIDI linked XP30 also (all sounds are from the Juno 2).
Some samples are on Patreon - / raveystabs
I've owned a Roland Alpha Juno 2 a long time now and recently took it out of the loft again. This is a showcase of some of my presets, showing chord memory for rave stabs, tips and more.
Update: I get asked for these presets A LOT. However, soon after doing this video I gave the synth to a guy to repair and never got it back, which is over 3 years now, and I didn't back up. Its complex because the guy hasn't had an easy time of it. I did get an MKS50 so will try to do something there (not as easy to gel with), but have mainly been using the V-Synth for similar sounds.

So Roland is pretty much the god to electronic music with the Juno 2, TB303, JP800. Each of these machines have pretty much created their own genres.
4:30-4:45 Last Rhythm ❤
The crazy versatility of those machines means you can do so much with relatively few devices which is amazing. I'd far rather learn sequencing etc. using these than on Ableton (mod-trackers don't count of course!)
I bought one of these recently and I love it!
Thoroughly enjoyed that
I love these videos. You are into the same sounds as I am.
Nice work. Priceless.
ahhhhhh the Last Rhythm bit... spectacular.
Awesome! You know the score!
That a lovely piano on 3:19
gz... take me back to the 90s!
Chord memory plus hoover equals BIG.
Great video! I see you have an RM1x too! Good man.
Yes, 2nd one I've had, needs a bit of work this one though (soldered in 2 switches so it is operational, but need to do the rest!). Awesome sequencers and liking your channel!
ha i find these sounds sometimes messing with knobs but didnt think anyone would be interested in hearing them. nice vid
No skool like the old skool!
This is the reason ill never sell mine :-)
opening sound has "Friends Of Alex - What Is Fick Dig" written all over it : ) - Awesome tune!
Great vid mate! Any change of uploading the sysex presets?
Great video! just grabbed me one yesterday actually, do you mind sharing the garage bass patch setting? Thanks
wow man great sounds, any chance you would share some of the presets like the one from around 1:02?
I know what you mean; I own an MKS-50 and it's a nightmare to program without any external controller. I'm thinking of getting the Retroaktiv mpg-50 but will see.. I believe the MKS-50 and Alpha Juno's can load sounds from Redominator ..? Might be somewhat easier to program something in there. Great sounds btw, still in love with the Alpha Juno since the 90's
Roland juno 1 and 2 only synths in the world that can do that.. Pow 🤜
Any chance you could share the story behind the guy who stole your beloved juno 2? Sounds like an interesting story.
Beautiful sounds and awesome playing techniques!
Is it all your own presets? It's amazing hinein spite of their individual characters the alpha juno 2 and xp-30 sound similar but with their distinct touches! I love the xp-60 🙂
Wolf Hirschmann all sounds from the Juno 2, XP-30 is triggering it too because a few keys are broken! Quite an easy synth to program and unique sound
RaveyStabs interesting, thanks a lot!
@@RaveyStabs so, factory presets you mean?
did u get your juno fixed? if so would it be possible to share the sysex file of these patches?
can u make a video showing how to "make up" rave stabs from beginning to end of a track? like, how to make it sound good with progression & breaks...including which presets sound good
I give you some ingredients, the recipe to mix them and the artistic journey is yours to discover :)
@@RaveyStabs -_- gee, thanks for ur help
@@EspritArkitekt Could recommend you some older style tunes to look at
@@RaveyStabs i know how old skool dance music sounds i listen to it all the time, i want to see someone who knows old skool & music production to show how to produce it from scratch. there are tons of tutorials for nu skool shit, not much for old skool.
Great vid! What would be a good modern synth that get those type of sounds? Would any of the Roland boutique re-issue series get me in the ball park?
Not totally sure! Juno 2 is quite different from 106 / 06 (had both, but sold the 106), and because it was never as popular, not sure if they'll make it in boutique form! SH-01A might be worth a look because it can be 4 voice polyphonic. Also worth trying out TAL-bassline (101 softsynth, free) and putting it through TAL-Chorus-60, I think his plugins are pretty close
Cool, thanks for the info. Will check them out. Have a ravey Christmas!

Human Resource - Fuck Them
Belter of a tune!
I own 3 alpha juno's mate, totally love them. If you chain two of them together via midi and use the pitch bend on one of them to set to a different tuning you can emulate a twin DCO alpha juno! Can be done on a BCR2000. Sounds wild...
That sounds rather awesome! Hopefully mine will see light of day again after fixed, in the meantime using the v-synth for hoovery sounds
Hey what keyboard did the bassline on Subsonic Trance by Joey Beltram?
Mate, you're like the sampling master!! Do you produce? Love your videos!
Thanks! Did a long time ago, sold everything + emigrated, came back, and now getting into it again! Will post some full length tracks.
I can't wait for that mate! You've got skills.
You play quite well. I have to ask you a deep question. That MPC 500 you have there on another video you sampled your synth using a guitar pedal and added distortion. With the mpc then you spread the sound perfectly across the pads. Then you used your midi in on the mpc and midi out on the keyboard and played the same sounds that you just sampled. However, what I want to know is when you do that can you play a full 61 / 88 keys of the same sample? Obviously the pitch will be different on all the keys. I ask as for I have access to some great midi modules, but don't want to own them all and just want to sample a few and spread across my 61 keys with pitch of course.
Hi - it's a MPC1000 with JJ OS2XL (better OS). Yes, if you connect a MIDI keyboard you will get the sample spread across all keys. There is drum or MIDI instrument mode (this) which makes it easy. You can also multi-sample i.e. sample a piano at different keys/octaves and spread those samples across the keyboard to get better accuracy.
RaveyStabs Holy Cow! That's exactly what I've wanted to do! Spread across 88 keys. The reason being is, the midi modules are piling up, and I only need a few sounds from each module and don't want to own every single one in existence. ;) . Thanks for answering this, and thank you for correcting me on which model and what OS. on the JJOS firmware was it a chip or download?
Software firmware (paid). Also note you can do this sampling more automatically in software using e.g. ChickenSys Translator or Extreme Sampler Converter - they will send the MIDI note, record, then map into a preset
I also have a question, can you downgrade sample bitrate on MPC-1000 in same fasion like in the old samplers of that era (Roland W30, Ensoniq ASR-16, Akai MPC-60)?
You can bit reduce when editing a sample, but you probably don't get the classic grit of those instruments or SP-1200!
Are you and Espen Kraft colluding to convince me to buy a Juno 2? Cuz it's working. Great demo!
Thanks, Espens is the 80s, and this one is the 90s, diverse synth!
@@RaveyStabsalpha Juno 2 released in 1985, folks. Thats when I bought mine and still have it, it’s that good. Great video, thanks for doing this! It’s even better with the Retroaktiv controller, MPG50 mk ii. Your mind will be blown! You can even hook up 2 alphas to the MPG50 and create a 12 voice “super Juno” that can take on the sonic possibilities of any Roland analog synth.
programming this thing is a nightmare only reason mine collects dust, maybe should fire up a midi editor. did you upload those patches by chance?
Josh K i’ve never found it too bad to program but you could try getting a behringer bcr2000 for some knobs. Not had the synth for a while (getting repaired by a friend) but will look to up patches when back
I’d take it off your hands.
when you play the xp30 this are the sounds from the juno2? you plug the xp 30 in midi with the juno?
Yes - a lot of keys no longer work on Juno
That (together with the bender and aftertouch not working) are quite easy to fix. It just takes some time !
Yeah time is the problem, but have a friend looking at it!
Do you have a list of the presets you played in this video?
Mentioned in description, this synth was stolen and I no longer have these presets I made.
Mega!!!!
Got any sample packs?
Re-Dominator VST? Or do you only use hardware samples/synths?
Any chance you can talk us through how you make some of these patches?
Could do something, but very easy synth to program. Have you got one?
@@RaveyStabs No I don't, but I'd love to replicate many of the sounds in my soft synths.👍
@@RichardMallam This synth does things others don't and that's the problem, nothing can really emulate it! Unique mixed waveforms, chorus and PWM contribute to its different sound, and it has dirtiness. Some mention u-He diva can come close, but it sounds a bit too clean to me on the videos I've heard.
@@RaveyStabs I think the same. Diva is close but still too far. The only VST I know is the ReDominator from AudioRealism. Awesome replication. BTW great sounds you created!
Why oh why haven't they released a VST version? It's killing me...
TALPha VST released a few months ago is a very close emulation
it is possible to replicate dat huuver bass in any synthesizer or just in juno ? if is possible.. show us the path, master!
u can recreate a Hoover sound in most synths and vsts. problem is it aint ever going to sound as good as the real deal.
U-he diva does it
The juno 2 seems to have some unique waveforms with pwm and chorus that make it possible, which other synths don’t. Not been able to program or heard other synths do it like the original.
U can get really close in systrus or harmless in fl studios
hello, good video, could you pls share your presets with me / us
thank you!
Yeah it would we awesome if you can share the patches.....ah go on...pretty please kind sir
Not sure if the patches will survive repair works, but if they do will try when i finally get back

What is the name of the patch at 0:45?
A speed garagey thing I made up, most of these are custom presets except the few stock ones I liked
@@RaveyStabs Well, can you make a tutorial on it?
@@emiriTV no longer have the synth or these presets per description
@@RaveyStabs Okay, but there is a software synth called ReDominator that re-createsthe Alpha Juno. I think you can try programming the bass there.
