the fact that sm has the best vocalists of every generation tells us something
Their vocalist are usually on the top 25 of every gen, that's really impressive.
All Aespa members are on the top vocals of 4th gen(even it's not really a big thing in a gen with such low standards) but still impressive
@@justaboy343 I don't think that it's as much as the standards are low than being realistic... Imagine have to dance to a 200+ bpm song and sing simultaneously... I know that I haven't been taught how to control my breath and all the training they go through, but I literally can't walk and sing, otherwise I'll hit a wrong note... So now, imagine doing it on Master of Puppets (Metallica) and that is what you're getting yourself into!
With that being said, I would like to say that I don't think that mediocrity should be worshipped in any way, shape or form. However, I try to provide an explanation as to how it's come to be acceptable to be a vocalist even if you don't have a lot of talent.

its proper vocal training. other companies can provide it like rbw but few do as backtracks and autotune can hide a bad singer but not much can hide bad dancing or looks
@@dreamcaught3876 To be honest, RBW didn't provide the same training to purple kiss which is kinda disappointing. Goeun and Swan are pretty solid tho.
@@boas2666 its also possible everyone received the same instruction but the less vocally skilled members fell back into bad habits and bad technique and arent being corrected

Back then, boy groups were the craze and girl groups get ton of flak. Same with SNSD/SJ era. SNSD started with ton of flak but they managed to pull through and are now legends.
@@reveirg9 the problem was SM, they kept pushing them back and forth from Japan and Korea, just when they started gaining popularity in Korea they where sent to China and Japan, just when they started picking up steam in Japan they got sent back to Korea. They could have been the greatest vocal group around if SM kept them in Korea instead of trying to push them around Asia, that's what they learnt for SNSD, Shinee and FX, see those groups didn't debut in other countries till they had a solid hit in Korea. Snsd had Gee, genie oh and run devil run, shinee had replay and ring ding dong, FX had hot summer and danger all before they went to Japan, the grace had one more time ok? But then got pushed straight into the Japanese market with a Japanese version and the flopped and underperformed in Japan. SM fucked up the grace so badly tbh.
@@reveirg9 i agree. Actually My Everything brought them some attention in Korea, but before they could capitalize on this Stephanie had a back injury. They had to halt promotions because their main dancer was gone. I feel like they had every opportunity to promote again when she recovered (1. This was around 2010-2011 when girl groups were well in the mainstream and 2. They had the biggest idol company to support them). But this was at the time of their contract expiration and the girls just chose not to renew. Most people find it easy to blame SM but i think for once it isnt their fault. SM never disbands their groups and probably would have promoted them if they chose to renew...
Though im not any of the girls, and im not SM, so I cant speak on whats right or wrong in their situation. All i can say is that I feel like they paved the way for SNSD and other ggs to break into the industry.
@@br9363 SM never disband his groups?? Why Luna, Amber or Krystal never released a good solo after 2016??? Amber had produce her own songs, and the company never support Luna after Free Somebody.
Maybe SM never disband his groups, but is normal that the member don't renew the contract if SM ignore his artists.

Out of kpop companies SM was always ridiculed to only value "visuals"
But SM trains and has the best vocalists in kpop. Even those who dont hold the title of "main vocal" have heavenly vocals. All of their artists are well-rounded.
That's true. Many people would right away think about "visuals" when it comes to SM which I found it pretty sad. To me, it has to be Vocalists. SM is the only agency who has recording process where their Vocalists actually sing and they say no with faking. That's also the reason why I stayed with SM artists no matter what. They have true values.
I think its the SM vocal training which makes such good vocalists also let's not forget SM water that tastes like water (jk)
@@boorave yeah, sm training is top-tier. They even made a main dancer out of a no-experience Taeyong. And look how amazing he is now. And of course, sm water that tastes like water is the secret too.
I think the main vocalists are natural skilled. SM training just push them further.

@Jacob My SNSD biases are Sunny & Jessica and I’m a SONE since 2012…. I can tell you that when people talk about SNSD members who can sing well, most often than not, people only mention Taeyeon or Jessica and sometimes about Seohyun & Tiffany but Sunny is really rarely mention…. I have listened to Sunny’s OSTs and I can tell you that her voice is really so beautiful but people don’t recognise her talent

You know what this means?
It means less than 10 female artists of SM are underdeveloped vocalist (but still a good singer).
Which is insane, considering they have 31 female artists. And beside all 23 girls in this video,
Amber and Giselle are probably also a developed vocalist as well.
SM does not come to play when it is about vocal, this is why vocal is their biggest strength.
Giselle is a developed vocalist her mix is more grounded than Joy, she support up to g4/g#4. Not sure abt amber tho
Amber is technically tied with Krystal, both supporting up to A4/Bb4 with same issues.

SM owns some of the greatest vocals
Giselle and Ningning give my ears pleasant, no matter how low or high the notes are.
Nothing against them but I find them too high pitched for my sensitive hearing. Surprising karina's vocal sounds more mature and neutral and it's pleasant to me.

I think they do need to prove themselves more like majority of the vocals i've heard from them are pre-recorded. I wasn't their stan so i never went to search for their singing. I only hear them when their tweets appear on my tl.

I’m just happy to see hear Luna’s voice and also so proud to see Sooyoung get props on a vocal list.
My favorite group is SNSD; second is Red Velvet. Favorite soloists are Taeyeon, IU, and Wendy. Really like Yuri’s tone as well and she has more solo parts in Oh! GG songs. Sunny has a beautiful voice and surprised she doesn’t have solo career.
Sunny should better release her own songs
I think she said that she wants being low-key or something

I think right now, taeyeon consistent support in D5 and her upper register consistent in F#5, but peak in G#5.
And sunny consistent in G5.
Well Bada is carrying a lot of emotions. So she's def one of the top 3. And CJSH member are absolutely having the best vocals for a girl group!!!! Taeyeon is an ost queen that will bring us to tears!!!

there are 7/9 members of SNSD, their vocals are totally on the next level, even the sub-vocalists are good too
Karina is really underrated as a vocalist, in my opinion she brings something very new to the SM female vocal style. She has such a beautiful bold and dark texture and can do a lot of vocal feats within her range!
i see a lot of people describe her voice as dark but it’s not to me? bold yes but she’s extremely whiny (seems like a stylistic choice) and nasal which is the opposite of a dark, rich voice. a dark voice would be tiffany, hyoyeon and stephanie. arguably giselle has a darker tone than karina which makes sense as i’ve heard sang alto in choir. whilst she probably isn’t an alto nor mezzo soprano, she was probably heavier and darker than the other sopranos in the choir at the time.
7/9 of SNSD members supporting is iconic.

Seohyun is the second best in SNSD now, considering she shows better improvement in her mix while Sica maintain the same, Sica kinda shows some issues around B4 ~ C5 area nowadays imo.

Even Seohyun placed higher/better than Ningning Aespa *MAIN VOCALIST*. SNSD Vocal line is another level, like it or not, accept the fact. Its not about how many members.

Joy supported all of her A4 in Her solo album, Love on top and The greatest love cover so She definitely deserves it

You guys will agree why Lina is the GOAT if you watch some clips of her musical plays. She has been working there over a decade.
There are also some covers by her like "Stacie Orrico - Stuck" or "Christina Aguilera - Hurt" and "Cheryl Lynn - Got To Be Real". I recommend you to try "The Grace - Renew"(audio only), "The Grace - Dancer In The Rain", "Tenjochiki - Piranha", "Tenjochiki - 5cm" and "Tenjochiki - Here"
BoA for me is the best. the improvement over the years in the technique is remarkable. the perfect beltings, open and clear, without pressure on the throat.
I'm sad that CSJH never got the popularity like other SM's groups

@@ridgeromero2633 No no she isn't there yet on C5, its more like Bb4/B4 and she always had that its just that when she sustains Bb4/B4 it can often be tight and whiny bcoz of her known problems but still in the same performance she can do well on phrased notes in that range.

I might be biased but NN is higher than Jessica. NN lower register is stronger and also she's more agile. Also NN supports up to C5 - C#5
I would disagree with NN lower register being stronger cause rn she seems to be G3/G#3 and F#3 at best which is the same as Sica and Sica has a more developed chest register in general. Jessica isn’t consistent but she has supported C#5s and even resonant one before plus overall way more examples of resonance/openness but that could just be cause she’s had a lot more time to show it vs NN being a 1yo rookie rn. I would say they’re the same for now but it probably is leaning towards NN cause she connects HV with some support and is more agile (in studio at least). I think Jessica is still better lower and their mix is about the same with support.
@@foreverinsfired Ningning actually have more roundness and fullness in her lows, Jessica have G3/G#3 but she is really light and thin, she was not justly hyped as close to the best in chest register.
Ningning is also cleaner in mix to be honest, Jessica can be pretty underwhelming with how she phrases throughout.
@@sowhat1674 NN also supported C#5 and judging by how open her belts E5 and D5 she is probably really close to support D5 too. Of course jessica has more material, she's been on the industry for years. But NN lower register, agility and ease on the 5th octave and adding up she has connected HV makes me think she possibly on par with jessica or even better.

Exactly not. Jessica have good lower register, and very good in chest register. For agility, jessica able to doing complex run. Ex: Genie, The Boys. Jessica peak support in D5, but she's consistent in C5 same like ningning. Jessica sometimes have resonance even ningning not.

Some people still insist Taemin would be the best SV but he was established as a MV in SuperM already and he has plenty of solo work which include ballads and vocal showcasing
I think we still haven’t seen the best from Karina yet she’s has studio moments to suggest she’s stronger than some LV from SM (like Krystal)
