i always come back to this tune due to how many times i heard it its a comfort now. ive played trouhg the entire game twice now and love the soundtrack, and woudl love to attempt to compose something with similar sound and feeling.
Thank you so much! It was a fun tune to make, due to the voice synth. I was afraid it would be too much, but it really seemes to work with the visuals.
@@slidstudio5116 Absolutely! Really haunting and captivating, was entranced by this tune during a stream; I have not played the game yet but it looks phenomenal too
The environmental visuals make it feel so real sometimes. Just I don't know. The way he built the levels feels so natural. It feels like a carved out world not just something made in a box
@@astillia6073 Completely agree, it has that really genuine "Gauntlet Dark : Legacy" Type authenticity about it. That really can't be forgotten hmm? Quite a rarity now-a-days
I dont have many thoughts that i could articulate into a sentence but in short: thank you for making this game, for reaching for your potential, thank you.
This tune made me 'Wooow...!' when I heard it for the first time. So awesome. I still think most of the tracks composed for this great game could be used for Black Metal Intros.
Watched a streamer play this game recently, calling it a hidden gem. He hasn’t finished it yet, but I absolutely agree. This track actually gave me chills at one point! (Streamer name is TomatoGaming, if you’re interested)
Such an amazing gem. This game is a pure work of art. The graphics felt like reading a Elsa Buscow children's book that I used to read growing up in Sweden.
Thanx! I guess things we make in scandinavia will often tend to have similarities. Something about our shared type of nature and culture. And those Buscow illustrations are really beautiful!
Incredible what you created. This song, together with the forests in the game, give me a strong particular feeling that reminds me of the dreams I sometimes have of my childhood place, where everything seems very magical, but also very mystic and kinda threatening
I'm not easily scared by video games, but the large flies in Greenslit definitely freaked me out a little. The Ticks in sourwood, specifically the spiders in dead well, beetles in drowned veins, and the mosquitos also gave me the heeby jeebies.
there's a genre of music called dungeon synth that features tons of rich music like this. Northern Journey is one of few games I could describe as a playable dungeon synth album. It just has so much love and pure style. I truly love this game.
I highly recommend checking out a game called The Longing if you're a fan of dungeon synth. I adore the game itself but it's not for everyone! The soundtrack is beautiful.
Is it true that it translates to "drink wine"? 'cause I'm already there, having polished off two glasses of Pinot Grigio already. I'm no Adrian Carsini, but I like a nice bit of wine every now and then.
Most enjoyable game I have streamed all year. This is a must play game. Transformational, meditative, and visionary while retaining a tangible retro familiarity. Thanks for all this work.
very good song, i think it was around this level that i noticed the trick you used on the camera-edge to warp the fov, it shocked me to think of how much of a positive impact it made to the visual depth
This is my favourite song from the game! The only thing that's missing when I listen is the sound of me bunny hopping through the hills, so I add my own. Hup! Hup! Hum!
I finished the game just today (haven't put my full thoughts on it together yet), this map here is the magnum opus though. Verticality, compact design with landmarks, shortcuts upon shortcuts, visually stunning from every angle. You mentioned skyrim and hexen as an inspiration (I love and have beaten these games) and in my honest opinion you surpassed both with this map. Though I guess that's a little unfair to hexen given its age haha
Thank you so much! Interesting that you write 'compact' design. I discovered that compacting a level very often fixed a feeling of blandness. Or, as I like to call it, unmotivated distances. At least half the levels needed compactification (if that's a word) when they became more mature. In modern game engines it is so easy to create an enormous generic map, but variations and content is the real job. Hexen gave me that feeling of being far away in a dark fantasy world. I guess the very confusing leveldesign also made an impression, spending hours searching every nook and cranny. You really got time to soak up the atmosphere. A new game is sure to take more inspiration from Hexen!
@@slidstudio5116 I love how you often seem on the verge of going on about game design, most devs don't go into the details so freely. Consider me a fan (if that wasn't obvious yet). Best of luck with the next project, if you can match or top this one that'd be pretty legendary.
@@dopaminecloud Yeah I really like to talk about aspects of game design. It is probably because I now have a perspective backed up by some experience. I especially like to talk about small detaljs, but not so much 'how to make a level, watch my flowchart' that there seemes to be a bit too much of!

Thank you so much! I will check it out as soon as I get the chance. I am currently trying to implement gamepad-controller for the game, so I just need to get that working before I can relax a bit!
fucking wonderful game, absolutely gorgeous soundtrack. love all the weird scalar changes in this song. in my eyes, you have outdone every other solo indie game i've played. kinda reminiscent of ruclips.net/video/kGqTqjq4O_Y/видео.html for me
Into deep woods I've came, to the anctient shrine of pagan goddess Hatsune Miku

@Slid studio the voice synth sent it above and beyond. The vocal aspect made it pop as sounding like a far off chant or ritual
The feeling of exploring Greenslit for the first time with this song playing was mesmerizing. What an experience!
One of the best levels in all of gaming. Seriously.

Northern Journey's OST is the Dungeon Synth Album of the Year in my opinion
Dungeon Synth is one of those music genres that has expanded its meaning quite alot. It is a very cool tag to the music!
