The Second Barry Manilow Special airs on ABC. Barry Manilow In Concert is released as the first big musical special on HBO.
Across the pond in the UK, however, Barry is still a relative unknown. But the buzz is growing.
He’s booked for his first shows in the UK…two nights at the London Palladium. Those two nights sell out and four more nights are added. Those four nights sell out.
British impresario Robert Patterson and his young assistant, Andrew Miller decide to roll the dice.
They call the BBC.
They book Manilow at the Royal Albert Hall and turn his concert into a two part TV special.
So begins a beautiful love affair between Manilow and his British fans.

@Sonia Mayrink I loved his music because the story he tells describes emotions that many have been through and felt. To the point that you feel your right back on that very day and time and feeling those emotions all over again.
I was just watching the Barry Manilow video of Mandy he was a good-looking man when he was younger and he still is today nice to see that he's still performing he brought many many many happy memories back for me of when my sister was alive and we saw him perform in Atlantic City and the PNC Arts Center I hope that he might go on RUclips and scroll down and see the comments that people put there for him but for now I like to say to everyone out there please take care and be safe the world is trying to heal itself and it will given time to Barry Manilow if you're out there and you read this comment I wish you and whoever's in your life a safe and joyous life thank you for the wonderful memories

Way back in the 70s my sister and I saved all our allowance to get tickets see Barry at the Beacon theater in NYC. We were so excited to be able to go to our first concert ever and that it was Barry Manilow, our favorite. He had his Beagle doggie that concert, on the stage somehow, I think he ran out accidentally but it was the coolest memory with my sister who made it happen for us, RIP my Bonnie. I cherish all the memories and Barry Manilow marks some of the best and always will. BTW, Bonnie loved Mandy and I loved I write the songs and we both loved could it be magic. Thank you Barry Manilow

Fun fact: That scar on the right side of his face (which you usually can't see, thanks to makeup) is something he 'acquired' when he was a little boy; he was playing in a park with some small girl and she pushed him over and he fell and .... got the scar. Story verified by his mother.

How many of you Barry Manilow fans named one of your daughters after this song? My beautiful Mandy was born in 1986. My husband wasn't as fond of the name as I was when our first two daughters were born in 80 and 81 and our son just didn't look like a Mandy so the honor went to our fourth child. I've been a huge Manilow fan since I was 13 yrs old.

Some of the Brits might have recognized Barry's reworking of Scott English's 1971 hit "Brandy"(a #10 in the UK) which was his first #1 in the States. "Could it Be Magic" went through several iterations before it landed on Barry's first LP in 1973. It was also reworked a bit before it became a hit in 1975. These two are where it all started.
