In January 1975, my brother and I were 15, and visiting friends who had a ping pong table, little game shack out back of the main house. We were playing ping pong and then Mandy came on the radio. We stopped playing and just listened. It was EPIC. It left us with a yearning to hear it again and again. Thankfully, it was huge, and we heard it on the radio quite a bit all through the summer of that year. What a special time! No other song has affected me nor haunted me the way this one does. It is one of a kind. All good wishes, Barry!
I love this song. I was 16 when I heard this song on the radio. I always said if I have a daughter I will name her Mandy. My Mandy is 45 now and her 20 year old daughter has just discovered Barry. She loves the song Mandy and couldn't believe we never told her why I named her Mandy.❤

I had my Mandy when I was so very young indeed. Alas, I only realized it when I was too old n alone and when she had long gone into the heaven. Oh, it hurt me so much when I was told by her close friends that she still loved me n prayed for me n wished me the bests long after our first true love that we shared. And yes, In my sigh of loneliness, unconsciouly I call her out n tell her how much I regret leaving her just like that n how I wish that I could have decided otherwise. And yes, up to this point I keep wondering : How could she still wish me all the bests after my stupid mistake leaving her in the cold ? How ?

To be honest I used to snear a little at Barry Manilow when I was a teen in the 80s but secretly I've always loved his music. What a perfectly written pop song! Why is pop music so underrated. Writing an intelligent song that has instant mass appeal is pure magic.
Tunes like this resonate thru generations only because it takes life experience to truly appreciate them. As a teen in the 80s u couldn't quite figure it out but there comes a point in your life when u get it.
