- Barry Manilow performs "Weekend In New England" live, taken from the 1982 Showtime Special
For me, it was an exciting experience in all ways. This was my first “In the Round” concert tour. We were sold out with the most amazing crowd and I remember running from the exit to the stairs that would lead me up to the stage.
I tore down the runway to the stage with loads of people on either side of the aisle. Everyone yelling, cheering, smiling with security guards trying to keep the crowd back as I dashed up on to the stage.
Thrilling. Just thrilling.
Thanks to all of you for continuing to make such wonderful memories for me.

LYRICS:
Last night I waved goodbye
Now it seems years
I'm back in the city where nothing is clear
But thoughts of me holding you
Bringing us near
And tell me
When will our eyes meet?
When can I touch you?
When will this strong yearning end?
And when will I hold you again?
Time in New England took me away
To long rocky beaches
And you by the bay
We started a story whose end must now wait
And tell me
When will our eyes meet?
When can I touch you?
When will this strong yearning end?
And when will I hold you again?
I feel the change coming
I feel the wind blow
I feel brave and daring
I feel my blood flow
With you
I could bring out all the love that I had
With you
There's a heaven so earth ain't so bad
And tell me
When will our eyes meet?
When can I touch you?
When will this strong yearning end?
And when will I hold you again?
Again

Paid a small fortune for my mum to go see him at the palladium recently, she’s the ultimate Fanilow and was there from the start. An irreplaceable artist who has given a lot of pleasure and hope to millions of people..
You know what is weird. No one has come along that sounds remotely close to this voice. It is really quite unique. It has this golden tone to it that I really have never heard before.
I always say this too..nobody remakes his songs..nobody could sing them anyways
I am nearest I am from Edinburgh I sang his songs since 12 years old to get away from my alcoholic father ,I am you tube b Mitchell Mandy could it be magic am bm aswell
I was reading about him and the word is he never planned to be a singer so he really has to force himself to be that good..however his piano genius is much much easier for him. He puts on great shoes I've seen him twice so far in 83 with my mom and 84 I took my dad these were. Both were Christmas shows.
Why is that weird? Everyone is unique. However, he's a Living Legend with a unique voice that many of us have enjoyed and continue to enjoy.
@@terryjohnson5305 take that with a pinch of salt. It's common for particularly good singers to say the old line 'I never wanted to be a singer'. I believe it's called humble bragging.
Wow! Barry Manilow in the late 70's early 80's, nothing else comes close.
Steve Perry, bobby hatfield, karen carpenter, Barbara Streisand, Mary fahl. there are a few. Barry had a golden voice for sure, but lets not lose sight of reality.
its sorta subjective.@@randolphkersey5155
So true. So much great music, singers and composers including Manilow. @@randolphkersey5155
@@randolphkersey5155He meant he had his own style. Maybe you should stop trying to find an argument in everything. Just keeping it real.
13, laying in my bed listening only to Barry, now 60 still listening 💖💖💖
He’s great

Me too
He was my idol at 16 also . Always listened to this beautiful voice.!!! Absolutely my favorite musician.!!!❤
I passed my driving test aged 17 Used to drive around with Barry on and dream about my future love life
Now divorced with one son I rarely see, I often long for those simpler times
He’s so handsome! I have the best memories of him. I cry whenever I hear this song.
it is a shame he was gay....just imagine him in you
The fact that this is LIVE, makes it even more impressive. Might be my favorite version.
YES! No autotune.
I agree! What a beautiful voice-so much emotion! ❤
This song and video may be one of his very best performances. As always, he hits all the notes perfectly, and his tone is so beautiful! He's legendary 🙌 so glad I grew up in the 70's... I'm a true and forever fan 👏 ❤
that’s a god dam mutilated woman
@@beanerschnitzel794are you sure you know what you are talking about?
Me too, forever a Barry fan. This brings back soooo many memories of Summer 1982
My favorite of all his songs(sorry😊).
My favorite part, is his voice with a resonating reverberation, right before the high-point ending…
Brings back the summer of 1981
WOW!! Totally beautiful. Thank you, Barry, for bringing so much joy & beauty to people’s hearts through the years.
A glorious musician. Storytelling, incredible arranger, superb pianist….and that voice!!!! The control! The beautiful tone. He’s awesome.
I just ordered two tickets to see him in Cincinnati. I’m 62 and have loved him since the 70s❤
He captures how your heart yearns for someone you love and miss….you are loving someone so much your stomach turns when you are away from them.
👔The Feeling lasts forever🥁 ❤️
@@cryptosherpa2022 it does.
Perfectly said ❤😓😔
This is my very favorite Barry Manilow song. My little sister, Marci, got me hooked on you when I was in High School, 1976. I told her about your concert special and channel. She was singing your songs from the concert this morning at 2 am. Her husband and roommates were not pleased 😆. My sister had a stroke 1 year ago this past October. I told her to get her old albums (yes vinyl) and play them and sing to help her mind and body recover from her stroke.
Keri Gridley how is your sister? I am a stroke survivor myself,I hope she is doing better! It is a struggle, but don't give up!
@@patriciawalsh6733 she is getting a little better. She is still paralyzed on her right side, thank goodness she is left handed. She will never be able to see out of her right eye because of damage to her optic nerve. She is thinking positive and pushes herself every day. I am proud of her. We have a much better relationship now and I am thankful for that.
Hope your sister gets better.
The music has the most power in the world. I feel really happy for your story. It finishes in a happy way however the stroke.
My best wishes from Spain !!
Sending Prayers and Hugs to You and your Sister...xoxo ❤️🙏🏼
Barry's music became wildly popular after I got out of college in 1977. I've always loved his heartfelt songs and his singing ability. My wife and I saw him in concert in Atlanta over 10 years ago and he was awesome in person. This was always one of my favorite tunes of his.
No one sings a ballad like Barry Manilow.❤❤❤❤❤
Love Barry Manilow!! This is my favorite Barry Manilow song!! I love it! I have been a fan since 1973. Barry is one of the best singers ever!! God bless, Barry!! xoxo
After all these years,..I still love your music. Forever~
Never gets old!
Hearing Barry Manilow when I was very young is the only reason I have any feelings at all. Fantastic.
Barry at his peak. Fantastic song.
I unwillingly learned the lyrics of every Mannilow song during the 80s and 90s thanks to my mom always having a record of his spinning or a tape of his concerts. I even went with her to a few concerts which I never regrette. She passed away in 2015 and i know this song is about lovers but id like to know when ill get to hold my momma again. ❤ love you forever ❤️
Oh the emotion Barry is able to infuse into a song is so special even today its the same and the crowd goes wild when he say when will I touch you wow wow wow.
I really wanted to marry him when I was 12. At 57 I can still see and feel why. I sure would have loved having access to these videos then.
Saw him live in Vegas, the man was born to Star there
On the "when will I touch you" the ladies out front rushed the stage
I’m 20 and I love him with all of my heart!!!! He’s my favorite 😭❤️
@@danaheffernan1826 I turned 60 this year. I fell in love for the first time at the age of 17. I had Barry's greatest hits on 8 track tape in my truck and his music was mine and my girlfriends favorite music. Barry's music is what we fell in love to. After school each day she would call me and ask if I was coming over that day. If I was to please bring Barry with me😂.
Barry.....Another one from the 80's. This is the 4th one I found from the 80's tonight and in everyone you look so handsome and your hair is perfect and bounces when the song gets faster. You really had it going on in the 80's. Not one of us could resist you then. The song is perfect too. I still think this one is your favorite. Love you forever and a day................Betsy Basile
Barry...Another one from the 80's. I love your hair in the 80''s and that white outfit, you look so handsome in it. This one is also one of my favorite songs. Love you always.....Betsy Basile
That performance brought tears to my eyes. So powerful and true.
Barry has always kicked serious ass on stage !!!!!
Barry, still going strong after several decades of showmanship and superb musical talent. What a gift to the world!
In this one at times we see you three times at one time. How exciting and of course, you sing this so amazing as always.................Barry......Love ya..........BB
Just saw Barry a few months ago. At 80 years old he was amazing
Barry helped me thru my teenage years! I have seen him twice, in concert. Those concerts were more exciting than any other! ❤
Barry.....This still is one of my all-time favorites especially with your duel image and sometimes 3 images and WOW, if we only had 3 Barry Manilow's, we would really be flipping out with your songs and performances. You must have the mind of a genius or your grandpa really helped you more than you know. Love you................Betsy Basile
I come back to this every few months or so to remind myself what real musical talent is like.
I’ve been a Fanilow since my then-15-year-old sister dragged me to one of his 1978 concerts at the Greek Theater in LA. I could drive, so my sister paid for my ticket. Barry sold out 15 concerts in that run at a theater that holds 4,500. I liked what I saw & heard so much that I dragged my sister to his concert the following night and we sat in the trees surrounding that outdoor venue. Barry is a national treasure and I am awed by his talent every time I hear him.
What a gorgeous man... Great singer /song writer! Love him!❤
Barry.......This is one of my favorite songs that you do and the white outfit you are wearing is just perfect for the music and the lyrics. The flutes always get me revved up. You are really the best ever since I found you in 1974. I am 3 years younger than you so I have been with you for a long time~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Betsy Basile
The best performance that I've heard of that song.
Barry....You can't beat this one. The way you sing it and play the piano and the camera work with the double image of you. I wish there were 2 Barry Manilows. It would be amazing !! The ending still makes me cry. I think this one is your favorite........................................Betsy J Basile
This one "in the round" is so superb, Barry. You are so handsome in that white outfit. It is different then what you usually wear. I just love hearing and watching you do this wonderful song and I still think this is your favorite, but you won't tell us...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The Dancing Queen BB 1965
For those who experience love and longing, this song is amazing !
Barry Manilow was the musical background to my childhood! Now I have introduced him to my kids!
Doesn't matter how many times I watch this video, it just seems to get better and better. Barry, honestly, it is partly the communication you have with your fans, BUT, it really is the person that the real YOU are. You are not one of those FAKE performers, so please we love you for being you and the talent you show us every time you take the stage. Love to you for everything....................Betsy Basile
YOUR MUSIC ::
BARRY ,..IS SO SOOTHING TO THE SOUL.. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SONGS ..🥰🥰
This is the best live version of Weekend. Barry in young full voice with full emotion. All time great song.
A proper proper old school talent, great musician and absolutely fantastic voice, pitch perfect. Great songs too
Love this song Especially the line "With you there's a heaven, so earth ain't so bad" I am 57 years old and I remember singing I Write the Songs, along with a couple of others that I can't remember, in a concert my girl scout troop put on for our mothers for Mother's Day. I have been a proud Fanilow ever since. Keep on singing Barry, and I will definitely keep listening
This is my all time favorite song. The passion in your voice, the words. It's all perfect. Thank you Barry. Thank you for this beautiful song but all the beautiful songs you give to us. For all these wonderful years. Your music has helped me through the worst times in my life and made the better times so much better. Thank you for just being you.
Thanks for all these wonderful memories you are sharing with us and allowing us to relive all these wonderful moments.
This is Barry's best rendition of Weekend In New England. He still brings me to tears. Cindy Slane
No way Greek theatre weekend in New England beats that
Having followed his career for 47 years, I agree. He just gives it 100% effort.
@@bmitchell928 I completely agree. "One more time..."
Wow. Memories. This song was popular at the time I was going through a heartbreaking separation from my husband. I love this man's songs and music, but this one is too hard to listen to. Yes...memories can be bittersweet. Mr. Manilow, if you are reading this, thank you for all the beautiful music you shared with the world. You are paramount in the music world :)
An absolute legend. So wonderful to have been blessed with his music over the years.
I love this song 🎶 ❤️❤️❤️
I woke up with this song in my head!!! I love this song. It means a lot to me. Thank you!!!!💖💖💖💞💞🙏🙏🙏
What a great song! What a great singer! He still performs in Las Vegas and will travel to Florida in January. I can't wait to see him again.
I have been privileged to see Barry twice in concert with my mom who grew up loving Barry. She certainly shared her love with me. I’m a New England girl and this song holds a soft spot for me always.
1977: Even now, years after she left, I still prefer the original lyric "...when will this emptiness end?"
I've been listening to Manilow since "Mandy" in 1973 and been singing along since then.
So.... I was born in 1969 and grew up on Barry's music on the radio but, amazingly I never heard this song. It has become the one song and video I keep coming back too! I'm now looking for his compilation album to buy. I just love this song! Barry, you truly write the songs that make the whole world sing my friend! God Bless!
This is my favorite Barry Manilow song of all time! Amazing
Love you Barry since 1976. I make sure my beautiful daughter knows your music. Absolutely listening to you has gotten me through a lot of sadness
Oh that white top! 🔥❤️
This song always makes me cry...my mom loved Barry and I think of her when I hear this #THANKYOUMRMANILOW
I'm right with you. The last thing I did for my Mom's was take her to see Manilow live.
miss her dearly.
Same. 12 years gone tomorrow. Came here to listen to this. 💖
I’m 18 now and my mom’s in her 50s, we will forever love Barry ❤ and it’ll always be something to hold us together
I remember riding in the car with my mom and dad as a kid. They had it on an AM station and this came on. From the first note to the last note I was intrigued. It also made me tear up when it was on the chorus part. I miss those days of radio and car rides with my parents. I love you Barry
You know, I've listened to this song a lot. And what impresses me so much is hearing the subtle little changes in Barry's arranging and in the way he sings this song. I don't know if he does this as a nod to his diehard fans ... I guess that's what I want to think. At any rate, I sure appreciate it. It's been a wonderful experience to be a fan of his for these decades. Through it all, he's been dedicated, technically sound, passionate, and grateful for those who have supported him and his music. What more can you ask for?
My favourite Barry song!! I love the emotion he brings to every song he sings! I finally got to see him a couple of months ago after a 45 year wait! A Mother’s Day present from my beautiful daughter!! He was amazing and so worth the wait! My 25 year old daughter absolutely loved it and now understands my love for Barry! What a legend! Thank you Barry xx
What I appreciate about Barry Manilow is the fact he sings with such power, and in tune!! No auto tune here! He's truly a master musician.
Your voice, music, everything 💜
Barry......Weekend in New England is a kind of strange title for the song, but when you start singing it, that just melts everything away. We just concentrate on the video, the lyrics and the way you sing it like it may be your favorite. Just love this one that is often on the top of my playlist. Love you forever and a day............................................Betsy Basile
we all have our own story of weekend in New England, but as many times I have listened, it makes me think of forbidden love
The touring he did back then was insane. I can't imagine the kind of stress that must be for anyone.
I keep going back to Barry all these years later. Just listen to his voice and control. Simply amazing.
I ❤️ this music. Barry your voice and music is eternal. I so enjoy the piano 🎹 . Your style is one that I’ve enjoyed for years. Your music speaks to my heart and soul about how I feel and felt about someone precious to me. He says what you want you want someone to say to you. He’s saying I care, I love u, I want to be with you and love you forever. 😊
I so much love the piano and also felt about someone nice to me
the voice of my childhood and this is my all time fave. Still as beautiful today
good lord.....I can listen to this forever and never get tired of it. such power in that voice.....love it
Mannn this was my song....and...After all of these years Barry still touches my heart ❤️
He is my idol. There is only one Barry Manilow. ❤️
Such emotion and expression in this performance! Brings me back to a time when music was really great! 🎹🎤🎧🎹
You can feel his emotions.a guy with a unique voice.really a talented artist.no one can match his voice.
Barry.....I love to watch you play the piano. I often wonder how you not only remember all the words to all the songs and all the note you need to play on that fantastic piano. You have a super brain, memory and you don't do anything unless you know the song and performance is perfect. Love your blue eyes. Take care Barry.........I will love you always................Betsy Basile
I adore this song, I adore Barry Manilow. Have done for years. I’ve only seen him once , in the UK where I live. That memory will never leave me
my favorite love song, ever. It builds up like a climax.
I have watched this so many times, what a Beautiful song and Barry is SO good, no one would attempt to cover it:)
Talent like this comes few times in a century and still entertains every age group
What a song, what a singer..... my fave ever.
Love this song and Barry Manilow!! I have been a fan since 1973. Love his voice!! He has one of the best voices ever!! xoxo
I'm a hard rocker, but always loved any great talent. Barry is an amazing writer and live performer. And many of his songs truly move me.
Love his music. Brings back memories of growing up. I’m 54 now and at 12 had a major crush on him lol. Wish I could meet him.
Never get tired of this beautiful song 🇨🇦
Barry always gives a song everything he has!! His songs evoke feelings of love in people. He is truly gifted in playing the piano and singing. He worked extremely hard to get where he is today and is still working hard at 80 years old!! This is such a beautiful song. There will probably never be another great talent like Barry Manilow.!!!❤❤❤
I never get tired listening and watching you singing. I love you since was young. It was a dream watching you singing live in Las Vegas.
Barry...I still think this one may be your favorite even though you say you don't have one. You love them all, but you put so much of yourself into this version with singing and playing that wonderful piano that I love so much. Thank you Barry. I will love you forever and a day~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The Dancing Queen BB 1965--My nickname in my first year of college. I am only 3 years younger than you...........................Betsy

Like so many on here have said this is my favorite Barry song. It really shows off his vocal talent . It's a difficult song to try and sing along to.
One of his best performances ever!! No one can sing like Barry Manilow! Not now, not ever. 💖💖💖
You just don’t see performances like this anymore.
There was a live performance of this song from ‘78 at the Greek theater. It was incredible!
The camera person filmed a close up, focused on Barry face, at the build up and the climax of the song. It was amazing to watch! He gave so much to the audience during the performance! Like he was giving a piece of his soul! I was awestruck.
At the end of the song, someone in the crowd shouted, “one more time!” Barry replied, “one more time, why I oughta…” lol! I wish RUclips hadn’t taken it down.
I looked for the video of that performance - I think this is it. He refers to ‘tree people’ at the beginning of it and that’s from the Greek theatre shows in LA. Thanks, it’s a great live performance! ruclips.net/video/3bwF0O4L5rA/видео.html
During that 1978 run at the Greek was the first time I heard Barry live. Barry sold out 15 nights during that run, which is still a record for the Greek. My 15-year-old sister made me drive her to see Barry and in return for driving her, she bought my ticket. I loved him so much that I fragged my sister back to the Greek the following night and we sat in the trees. I guaranty that we were not the only Fanilows in those trees.
“When will this Strong YEEEEEERNING end!!

Barry is pure excellence! Love you Barry!
Barry....I love the flutes in this one in the round. You are singing at your BEST and strongest. Love you and this video.............................Betsy Basile
Beautiful
Great song and performance he seems to enjoy performing as much as his audience does listening. A great talent!
One of my favorite Manilow songs !!! He's such a show tune performer !! Sigh...😌🥀♥️🙋🏻♀️
Barry...I am so happy they have not taken this one off. I still think that maybe this is your favorite as you indicated in another video that I cannot even find anymore. You are so powerful and your voice so beautiful. Another terrific story song that you do so well. Love you so much since 1974...........................................Betsy Blue-Eyes
Barry....This version of this super song is just not to be topped even by you. I still can't decide whether this one or " Even Now " is your favorite . Will you EVER tell us especially we old girls that grew up with you in the early 70's and now both you and I are much older. I am 3 years younger than you. Oh besides Mandy, I write the songs and even now, weekend in New England is my absolutely gorgeous song I love it thank you for sharing this song with us
