I used to listen to these (on vinyl!!) for hours when i was a kid! Too bad Cos' reputation was tarnished by all the issues from his past. He's still one of my favorites of all time! So many hours of laughter and joy his work provided me!
My parents bought this album when I was in grade school. We were eating popcorn and drinking Pepsi, sitting on the livingroom floor listening to it. I took a big gulp of Pepsi just as the wino came out of the alley. I laughed so hard and so long that Pepsi spurted out of my mouth and nose and I about choked to death! Loved growing up with Bill Cosby!

Gotta love Cosby's comedy, especially about his own experiences. I used to listen to his albums and watch his t.v. shows as a kid. Now I have three records and two double cassette albums and some remastered content on cd, now I listen with my own kids and laugh at the comedy of Cosby.
I don't know the man as a person. His image as far as I'm concerned will never change. I love and appreciate the genius of his art. Always have, always will.
Oh god I can't do it! Forget any online 'try not to laugh' challenges or readings, twenty years later after listening to these classic routines growing up I *still* lose it every single time the wino enters the picture! Hahhhh I love it!
I used to listen to this tape in the 80s when i was a small kid. Couldn't find any of the clips for years. I'm so glad I finally did, because they're as funny as ever.
My mom bought this album when my dad was on the ship(he was in the US Navy at the height of the Vietnam War). We listened to this album, front to back, and laughed so hard!!!
I used to listen to Bill Cosby stand up all the time when I younger. I had darn near all of this albums. I got the opportunity to see him live last February and he was incredible.
The Astor Theater was located at 722-728 W. Girard Avenue. It is a vacant lot now. If Cosby lived at the Richard Allen Homes, he would have been about a mile away from his house in a not-too-great neighborhood. The bridge on 9th street is meant for trains and one of the stops is Cosby's alma mater, Temple. So, this means that Harold and Bill are walking home UNDER the 9th St. Bridge, which, by modern photos has lights, but they may or may not work properly. Therefore, it is possible so be scared by someone walking out of an alley, if you aren't paying attention. They could have gone down 11th St. which has no bridge over it, but the closest left is 9th St. Thanks to Google Maps, this routine makes more sense now!
Thank goodness for Utube ! Now in can see Bill in action as well as listening him again. I'm from .south Africa and he isn't very well known here but a friend who came back from America in 1966 brought some LP,s and ever since I've been hooked. 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
This routine by Bill Cosby is indeed one of my favorites, I have always liked Bill Cosby ever since I was a kid. I also enjoy Revenge and many other of his comedy routines, Bill Cosby has always been one of my favorites He is one of the great comedy men there is
I have listened to this routine many times, but I never caught the name of the theater where Cosby saw the scary movie. It was the Astor Theater on Girard Street and apparently there was a 9th Street Bridge. When I looked it up on Cinema Treasures, a poster recalled having to walk under the bridge (not over as I had imagined) and that even in daylight, it was dark. So the bridge was like an overpass or having sidewalks along the side for pedestrian traffic. The movie I imagine Cosby saw was the House of Frankenstein which had all the monsters in it (Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman) but not the Mummy, although I have read some pre publicity on the film that the Mummy was to be included. This film came out in 1944 but could have been shown a few years later in Philadelphia as a re-issue. Apparently the Astor Theater was at one time a vaudeville house as Bob Hope commented on appearing there as a young man.
Thank you my friend for posting this. I looked 45 mins for some comedy by Bill Cosby and nothing untill now. I will always remember Bill who made me laugh as a kid Thank you.
..."You're talking about 2 scared kids just walking arm & arm, not even picking our feet up off the ground because we wanna be ready if the monster touches us, we wanna be ready 2 jump straight up 2 heaven!!!"
I dig a little digging about the movie Cosby was watching...and I think it was House of Frankenstein (1944) which featured Frankenstein Monster, Dracula, Wolfman, but not the Mummy. I have read somewhere that the Mummy was originally planned, but it was felt that there were already enough monsters and they couldn't write the Mummy in. This is the one where Boris Karloff played the mad doctor and J. Carroll Naish was his hunchback assistant.
This track holds a special place in my mind, mostly because of the time and place that I first heard this album. I was 3 years old when the album came out, but the first time I listened to this album was around 1975, around the same time that me and a friend shuck in to see the movie Jaws. My story goes about very similar to Bill Cosby's 'Old Weird Harold'- After seeing a afternoon movie (a Disney flick I can't remember), me and my friend Steven decide to sneak in to see Jaws. This movie, for the time it came out, was 'the' SCARIEST MOVIE we had ever seen, particularly after seeing the part of the boy getting pulled down, the water muffling his screams as blood filled the movie screen....it wasn't what you saw that was frightening (the mechanical shark), but what you didn't see that made it horrifying. When we left the theater to walk home, it was around 10pm, and it was DARK. We were looking around the corners of houses, just to make sure no sharks were gonna jump out and eat us.... ....while on dry land..... ....near Victorville, CA (70 miles AWAY from the ocean). Seriously, Jaws was so scary to me, I refused to take baths (showered only), afraid to swim (pools, as well as the ocean), and even was afraid of toilets (sewer sharks). This track reminds me of the good old days of me and my friend, afraid of land sharks.
this guy is great and tells it like it is - I grew up with him , and nobody can take that away from we, yeah buck buck was real and the monsters were real ,
LOOK OUT LITTLE KIDS COMING HOME FROM THE HORROR MOVIE WITH A WHOLE BUNCH OF HORROR MONSTERS IN IT! IT'S JUST NOBODY THAT CAN HURT YOU, IT'S JUST A LITTLE OLD WINO!
Bill Cosby was probably about eight years old when Universal released their multi-monster pictures: House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula. Both had Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Wolf Man in them, but not the Mummy. These films were shown separately as well as on a double bill, so very possibly he saw them.

"...and I don't even care what the guy's name was". I still reuse that line all the time. His early stuff was so great.
I always wondered why Cosby would even know a wino's name in the 1st place.

Cosbys comedy never goes out of style. The majority of it is based on things that really happened
