Brilliant video again, Graham! Your videos are cheering me up as I spent too much money on a 1971 MGB GT, which was a death trap due to completely worn out front suspension and steering! The consequences of the 40-year MOT exemption and a clueless owner! He polished it up, but I don't know how he drove it. It was all over the road! I'm a thousand pounds into the restoration of a car I thought that I could use.
Thanks for your comment - much appreciated! Sadly, I've found that the more you drive them, the more they cost - I guess you have to p[ay for your pleasure... :-)
I finally purchased an MGB roadster earlier this year. I've been wanting one since I first started to drive. Your videos have been very informative and helpful! This one was a lot of fun, and is motivating me to try some longer trips. You and your lovely wife Nicola are great on camera together!
Loved it! My dream is to retire to the Isle of Man with an MGB GT. Your cheery presentation is worthy of Top Gear (other motoring shows are available). And your long-suffering wife doubtless has the sympathy of many other petrol-head "widows". All the best, Barry.
Thank you so much for your kind comments Barry. Nicola is amazingly understanding but the Isle of Man is a great place and as I said in the video, everyone we met was lovely!
Great video....very enjoyable to watch! Loved the view from the car and the interviews with the other club members on the trip. It brought back memories of a nine hour through the night moonlight trip from Boston to Washington DC in my 72 back in the day.....top down, OD engaged and the engine purring. I do have to say that your wife is a saint for going on the trip with you. I am sure that there was quite a bit of footage that was edited out when things went wrong. You did a great job tastefully editing the content. I once went on a vacation with my girlfriend (now my wife) from Boston up to Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Montreal and Quebec Canada in a 85 Honda CRX. She was a bit unnerved when on Day 1 she asked where we were going and were we were staying and I replied......"no plans or reservations, we will live the adventure day by day and make it up as we go". Our marriage is intact, but she has vowed never to take another trip like that again!
Another great video! Glad you didn’t have any major problems on your trip. Hopefully this has given you some more confidence to tackle longer journeys in your B. Safety Fast!
Thanks for your comment - yes, the long trip certainly helped. I think we're going to try and get away on our own in the GT before the end of the year...
Very nicely done, Graham. You have whet my appetite for our upcoming trip to England and a tour around the Lake District in an MGB. You obviously had a mixed bag of weather which, I guess, is to be expected. But I think the highlight of your trip is meeting all those fabulous like minded people.
Thanks for your comment - I did the west coast highway from LA to SF in a hydrogen car for a feature for the Sunday Times a few years ago - I'd love to do that trip in the MGB!
Great video which is spurring me on to extract my BGT from the garage where it has been slumbering for nearly 30 years and actually use it. Might just need a new set of tyres first though. Outside lane in an B on the M6 brave man !!
Thanks for your comment - the M6 wasn't particularly fast at the time but it proves that the MGB works fine in modern traffic - a bit disconcerting passing bug HGVs though... Definitely get the tyres changes though - I managed to spin 360 degrees on a track day and thought it was my driving until someone spotted my rear tyres were 23 years old - that's my excuse anyway!!! ruclips.net/video/DT3rKDpMeOQ/видео.htmlsi=lOvGHne8QyuF4MZA&t=155
Hi Graham, I'm sure Stafford MG Enthusiasts Club had we known you were leaving from Stafford would have given you a great send off had we known you were visiting!
My wife and I celebrate our 40th anniversary next year. What do I attribute that to? SATNAV! I don’t think we’d have made it beyond 25, if road atlases hadn’t been replaced by GPS! Well done to Nicola on her map reading!
Thanks for your comment - Nicola is incredibly patient and was brilliant on the trip following the route book but I agree, sat nav does make things easier!
Love the video, superb channel and liked that someone said 'punctilious' you both did a marvellous and entertaining trip shared with all of us. Thank you Graham and Nicola,
Thanks so much for your comment - yes, I'm very lucky to have Nicola although I have a suspicion that the mountain tram ride was to get her own back as she knows I don't like heights! Watch out for the IOM Motor Museum video which should be out next week to see whether 4 hours was worth it :-)
When I met my wife Jackie in 2009 she wasn't at all interested in classic cars etc. Now if she sees a classic she will take a photo to show me. If we are out together in the car and a classic drives past, she'll ask me what it is, I'll tell her and she'll look at me, roll her eyes and say 'no its not it's an Aston Wolseley' with a wink in her eye.
Thanks for your comment - it was a great trip and the hotel excelled itself in every way. Mark and the hotel owner are committed petrolheads which helps! I know I wasn't the only one that he helped out!
Thanks for your comment - you were right... from now on, I'm going to buy every spare part because you can guarantee whatever spare I buy will never fail!!! :-)
@ClassicMGB Right. That was the spot. It did seem a lovely detour. Google usually guesses, incorrectly, of course, that I'd like 43 more intersections than the original route.
Thanks for your comment - Nicola is incredibly tolerant of my obsession. She's still speaking to me even after I got 500 copies of Enjoying MG from someone... although they're relegated to the spare bedroom!
Thanks for your comment - In total we did 701 miles and averaged 28.52 miles per gallon which I was pleased with. My car does use quite a lot of oil so in total it probably used about a litre over the trip... One point on fuel, we didnl't see any of the usual suppliers (Esso, Shell etc) on the Island. It was a brand I'd never come across but it was fine and E5 was available.
Looked like you and the missus were the youngest there. Octogenarian get together. Sorry. But from here in Aus, looked like a nice get together. PS: F1 world champion , Nigel Mandela was a special constable for 11 years on the Isle ( highway patrol) These days, the younger gen don’t really have an affinity with MG badge. Keep up your vids, really really enjoy them. Did that steering problem arise for your track day?? Suggest yes. I have mine lock wired to prevent such incidents. Enjoy , thankyou.
Thanks for your comment - much appreciated! There was quite a range of ages there but yes, we were probably some of the youngest... Yes, Nigel Mansell was a special in the IOM for a while - I think he lives in Jersey now. We interviewed him a few years ago when he competed at Le Mans with his 2 sons... Not sure how the bolt fell out, but the wiring thing sounds like a good idea. We've got a video coming up on the MGB that took part in the London-Sidney Marathon rally in 1968 and all the bolts were wired!
The car handled it well. Great film Graham Something I may have to consider doing in the future. What a great looking hotel, and roads designed for the MGB
Hi Wayne - thanks for your comment - yes you should do it! The MGOC tours are really well organised and very friendly. We're eagerly awaiting next year's schedule!
A wonderful video, an absolute pleasure having you at the hotel and glad to help keep you motoring.
Thanks Mark - great hotel on a great Island - thanks for making us so welcome and sorting my car so quickly :-)
Just sold by 76 BGT to my son Martin. Wonderful video and a great paint job!
Thanks for your comment - lucky Martin - hope he enjoys it! :-)

Thanks for your comment - great story! And for the record, Nicola is a Saint!
I enjoyed this, in 1981 & 1982 I lived in Sulby.
Many thanks for your comment!
Great work Graham (and Nicola) :) Your relaxed and informative style is really good. Greetings from Down Under. Cheers, Ken
Thanks for your comment Ken - much appreciated!

Thanks for your comment - yes, the company was great. The Lake District is on our list too and I think the MGOC do a tour there. Have fun!
As a Yank with a RHD UK home market BGT I would love to do this trip, great video!
Thanks for your comment - I did the west coast highway from LA to SF in a hydrogen car for a feature for the Sunday Times a few years ago - I'd love to do that trip in the MGB!

Hi Graham, I'm sure Stafford MG Enthusiasts Club had we known you were leaving from Stafford would have given you a great send off had we known you were visiting!
Thanks for your comment Steve - it was a flying visit - we arrived about 23:00 and were away by 0900 the following day - lovely thought though :-)

Thanks so much for your comment - much appreciated. That said, it was great fun although I think Nicola would have preferred it without cameras :-)
What a lovely video and kudos to your obviously very patient wife 😂 4 hours in a motor museum, not even I would do that... 3 hours maybe 😅
Thanks so much for your comment - yes, I'm very lucky to have Nicola although I have a suspicion that the mountain tram ride was to get her own back as she knows I don't like heights! Watch out for the IOM Motor Museum video which should be out next week to see whether 4 hours was worth it :-)
@@ClassicMGB excellent yes I will thanks
Well done you for this trip and a big hug for your long suffering wife, well done her for sharing your trip and the camera! ; )
Thanks for your comment - I'm very lucky with Nicola but she's loving some of the comments - including yours!

Sitting here in Maine taking the tour. Thank You. Mike
Thanks so much for your comment Mike. I would love to do some of the US roads in the MGB but not sure without A/C :-)
Brilliant video looks like you both had a fab time even if you did need one bolt ! Who knew there was a hotel with a workshop that has to be a first.
Thanks for your comment - it was a great trip and the hotel excelled itself in every way. Mark and the hotel owner are committed petrolheads which helps! I know I wasn't the only one that he helped out!
Best form of marriage guidance possible, and I did warn you too many spares 👍
Thanks for your comment - you were right... from now on, I'm going to buy every spare part because you can guarantee whatever spare I buy will never fail!!! :-)
Fantastic 👍
Thanks so much for your comment - much appreciated!
It's good to know Google Maps is silly the world over. Looks like a fun trip!
Thanks for your comment - not sure what you mean though :-)
@@ClassicMGBIt seemed that your electronic routing wasn't as desired at one point. I may have misunderstood.
@@justinschroder6094 Ah sorry - I see what you mean now - I think it was the Port Erin detour down by the beach! Nice to see it though! 🙂
@ClassicMGB Right. That was the spot. It did seem a lovely detour. Google usually guesses, incorrectly, of course, that I'd like 43 more intersections than the original route.
Reminds me of my wife- there but barely there.

Brilliant. Thank you. However I would like a few statistics re the car - mpg, oil consumption, etc.

Did I spy a Lotus M100 on the cover of that classic car newspaper?
Thanks for your comment - wow-that was a good spot! Good paper to read as well :-)
