You are so right. Most everyone I know are only seeing it because it is a black film but don’t really want to see it because they feel it can’t be as good as the original. Taraji has nothing to do with it. Honestly, from the moment I heard of the remake, I wasn’t excited because I had already seen the original and it was great.

Maybe shows are being cancelled because not enough of the targeted demographic is supporting it. Money talks in media and if the show ain’t making money the networks aren’t going to subsidize it just for diversity and inclusion. That’s like wnba players complaining about their salaries compared to nba players when the wnba itself is a money losing business. The nba literally has to subsidize it at this point to keep it alive.
I think we need more films starring black ppl that aren't solely tied to our trauma - just tell a fckn story starring black ppl In the late 90s we got a lot of classic black films that were just telling stories - Love & Basketball, The Wood, Best Man, Love Jones, Drumline... we had the floor to show we aren't a monolith and all we got were stories surrounding the trauma that is being black! The movies are supposed to be entertaining not a walk down struggle lane! Color purple - has a specific following but personally the original traumatized me as a kid so I didn't wanna see it lol Book of Clarence - was for a specific audience Origin - I did see and it was the most profound movie I've seen... may be ever
Book of Clarence was great! It’s not for a specific audience imo. It’s a dramedy set in Jerusalem during the time of Jesus. A great story with an even greater message. Everyone should go see it!!!

The nationwide release of American Fiction was in December. Most theaters near me released it just last week with limited showtimes and others aren't playing it at all 🤨 People can't support what they can't watch.
@@preciousjohnson1433 I’m late 30s and as a child you could go to the theaters and it would be 6 dollars or 10 bucks something reasonable. Now that I live in NYC the entire ordeal is extremely expensive. 3 people is 100 dollars or more for a movie that I can stream on all the platforms that I pay for also. HBO, Prime, Netflix, Hulu, Disney and I’m sure I’m forgetting another one that I pay for. So I’m more selective and I rather just go to a Broadway show if I’m honest
Blaming Taraji for Color Purple's revenue is so wack and just doesn't make any sense at all. She spoke about unfair pay, everyone can relate to that and it's good she's shining a light on it too.
Dont blame the audience for not going to see The Color Purple, nobody asked for that. Why is it always black trauma movies anyway. We like action, thrillers, fantasy, and horror movies too Oprah.
Going to a movie theater seems weird now. We pay for all these different streaming services but they expect people to also go to the movie theater to see a new movie. I'll wait until it goes on one of the services.
I wish folks looked more into why it stopped. There was no more content. If they would've continued it without content it would've been like the last two seasons of game of thrones
The fact that black people make up only 14% of the American population plays a major part in why black centric tv shows and movies fail to do particularly well over time. People of all races just get bored pretty quickly of the same shit being regurgitated over and over again especially when its race based
All the black relationship comedy/drama movies/shows are similar. Then you have all these gangsta/dope dealers movies and shows. A lot of people get upset about Cleopatra being white in movies. Maybe someone black should make a movie about her. There are so many other things to make movies and shows about. When you see a black actor in something that is sci-fi, fantasy, or action/adventure. 99% of the time it wasn’t written, produced, or directed by a black person.
Cleopatra wasn’t black! If anything she was biracial and she was Egyptian NOT African. If programming isn’t directed by blacks then there is a reason and that is that they ain’t good enough. EARN the right to produce and direct and then go do it. In the meantime keep your box ticking to yourself.
Rap Shit wasn’t even as close to as good as INSECURE. As a lover of black Art you can’t make trash and then expect people to just love it then blame it on the race card. As black folks we gotta cut that out.
This is literally proving their point, that these black themed shows aren’t profitable. CTG says you have to go out and support these shows, people don’t support them because they don’t want to see them. Personally I think the issue is every black themed show seems to be about racism. How many times are you going to replay the same theme, black people are more than racism. It’s clear black people are even tired of the same old thing. I remember when 12 years a Slave came out, though it was a good movie, I was thinking, another movie about black suffering. Enough, come up with something new and creative and people will support it.
One, not every Black show or movie is about racism. Two, I disagree that those shows aren't profitable because Black shows are being cancelled regardless of popularity or success. The problem is the audience isn't diverse. Just as an example, the most successful "white" shows aren't strictly being watched by white people. The audience it reaches is diverse. If you look at the most successful Black shows, the audience is far less diverse. White people aren't tuning into "Lovecraft Country" or "Rap Sh*t" on a weekly basis like Black people are tuning into "Modern Family" or those shows.
@@jas1565also think about it back in the 90s every race was tuning in to bLK shows and they where extremely successful. We never saw those shows as bLK shows we just all watched them because they where entertaining. I really enjoyed Black-ish I wish they made more shows like that and I also like Abbot Elementary. Those are shows that everyone watches.
@@jas1565the difference is modern family is not written to encompass the white experience its just a comedy. When you write shows that cater to black people exclusively you are already alienating the majority of the country as black people only make up 14% of the population if you cater to them specifically you are pretty much consigning yourself to failure
@@Ddf-d8rblack people make up like 14% of the American population when you make shows about racism you are appealing to such a small audience even amongst black people who are pretty bored of the same shit over and over again you are never going to be successful
Most "black" shows support false stereotypes and undefined realities, Issa Rae did an amazing job writing insecure and how they showed the nuance of "black" people. Many black americans, especially black men dont appreciate the false representations of their experiences in media, Issa Rae has been one of few that has given a honest take on black america.
i like the fact that Black men on that show looked realistic with their full african features. None of the sweetened brown ninjas. Issa's shows and P-valley are defo my fav shows of the past 3 years.
@@PHlophe most people are complex and full of nuance, most black media depicts false assumptions of black life, especially with young black folks, we aren't one dimensional people, we are full of nuance and sometimes media likes to show the image they want for us instead of the reality.
You do realise shows like that only appeal to a very tiny audience since black people are only 14% of the American population half that would immediately would be children who wouldnt watch the show anyway, take away most men and older generations and your potential viewing audience for “authentic” black shows like issa rae makes would be minuscule and never going to be a major hit considering they pretty much alienate most of the population of the country
@conradblack779 I'm aware of the disparity in viewership. My issue is the culture that seems to remain popular and continues to sell, regardless of its impact on the youth, I don't have any solutions to the problem, my household and the content I choose to view has always been based on my values. I didn't grow up experiencing these media stereotypes, Issa Rae's ability to make multilayered black characters was EYE OPENING AND VERY REAL.
@@MarcusTheJR if the culture were popular then her shows wouldn’t be getting cancelled, her problem is shes unable to make shows that appeal to a wider audience and are super race focused which evidently even black people have grown tired of. All of her shows seem to follow the same script and just become monotonous over time, when you try to convey a message more than entertain people its just not that interesting
Yeah I kind of wish people or producers and filmmakers stop saying this is a good black love story or say this a great black comedy film. How about saying that the film we made as an unit is a great story not a great black story. They gotta need to stop saying black this and black that when promoting their projects.
Imagine if white people started making white movies and actually marketed them as such people would be losing their minds and rightly so. Black people make up like 14% of the American population trying to make movie after movie that only appeals to a tiny percentage of the country while regurgitating the same storyline over and over is never going to be profitable in the long run even black people will get bored of it eventually and every other race will just avoid it completely
Actually not all black projects are marketed as a black movie by black media. White media tries to put it in a box which is something black actors complained about in the past. When Best Man II came out it was a box office success and topped all the movies opening weekend. White media got wind of it and started purposefully started labelling it a black movie in their write ups in order to pigeon hole it.
We went to see the color purple opening day and I thought it was amazing! I haven’t been to the theater in years. It brought me out. It helped that the original is among my favorite movies of all time.
We had a big window and opportunity to show more of our art to people but it was all repetitive stuff, all trauma based as someone said below, more educational or revolving around the black experience, and non appealing to large audiences. I get it, at a time where we finally had more visibility we wanted to show what we went through but we forgot about telling great stories and mostly about profit. We can tell the stories we want but don't expect it to make a profit when it appeals to only 12 percent of the population max. Marketing is also a problem, production budgets as well.
Yeah, it’s probably time for us to go to independent route, but I feel like as black people we have to come up with better stories. We keep remaking the same stories over and over again we gotta come up with something new. White people can’t relate to the black struggle gotta come up with different concepts I think I don’t know.
I don't think yall get it...they are purposefully only allowing certain types of movies to be made to control blk people💯 they don't care about yall being entertained, they use movies to push propaganda 2 keep you voting the way they want you to...say with rap music, they'll only pay for degeneracy to be promoted.... they use it to influence the blk community💯
Because black people make up 14% of the American population when you consistently make shows that only cater to black people at the expense of the other 86% of the countries interests they aren’t going to do particularly well, studios would be stupid to fund them to the same degree as other shows which arent race based like practically everything Issa Rae produces. She seems to be a bit of a one trick pony and not creative enough to to make shows that appeal to wider audiences hence why they are all getting cancelled because even black audiences get bored with them
It's not just those. I went to see the beekeeper the weekend it came out. At like a 7:30 showing and the theatre was less than half full. Might just be where we are in time right now
Ticket sales have been down overall since the pandemic. Higher ticket prices combined with so many streaming options, and short theater windows, all contribute.
Actually that isn't altogether true. They want white shows and producers who make money but they have an agenda to tell specific types of stores about black people - so they purposefully set black shows up to fail if the show isn't dealing in what they perceive a black show should be. The shows about drug dealers are always approved. They have conditioned us to think that if black folks are going to win an Oscar it has to be for a period piece, a slavery piece, a story about a bad mother, or a movie about black trauma. A black movie about a family like that which was shown in The Blindside would never be up for an Oscar. They purposefully bought the story about Nat Williams the slave who rebelled against his slave owners then targeted the director by bringing up an old-ass accusation in order to tank the movie - lest black folks got any ideas.
problem is the binge format on Netflix forces new shows to need to gain an audience fast. Otherwise it will get cancelled but its a self fulfilling prophecy because it makes people not want to start new shows if they fear it might just end up getting canceled.
@@SoundsOfTheWild3 you just described me because I hesitate on starting many new shows because of that...because even when you watch the first season and think it's safe, they can just cancel it and move onto something else...Netflix are the biggest culprits doing this.
It wasn't a lesbian remake. It was a musical remake. The author of the book is bisexual and so the book and the original movie had the same love triangle story between Shug Avery and Celie.
Remakes used to be one of the main things studios could bank on. People don't want to go to theaters to see an original story anymore, Book of Clarence being an example of that. (Movie is dope btw). The general audience typically has wanted to recognizable IP's like a Color Purple, Marvel & DC movies, etc. They'd rather watch original content on streaming services now. Which is fine, but still brings in less money than movie studios are use to, which gives them cause to pause on things now.
Some of these shows were really pretty bad. I know our community feels we have to support every black entertainer, especially women, but the shows are not good and extremely predictable.
I feel like more of the budget needs to be put into marketing. Just like any movie we gotta get hype about it. None of these last few movies have I see in places that the black audience watches. Start a better conversation,
Akademiks is right . Breakfast club is now geared to an older crowd thru all these politics topics and guest. Charla is bringing his political ties slowly change the direction of the show
I went to watch the Color Purple, and the Book of Clarence at the cinema. I enjoyed the new CP more than the original. Bought it on Prime Video a few days later so my friends and family could watch it. They all love it. It wasn't what none of us expected. The storyline is still there but the tone of the movie is way different. When I went to watch CP at AMC there were way way more white people there than black people there. So I agree with Charlamagne, we don't support black movies the way we should.
You can tell these two are out of the loop because we watched these shows faithfully just like we watched Lovecraft. If it’s not about something making us look negative, they will cancel it.
Ratings are ratings and if the ratings are poor the show gets canceled whether it’s independent or not. People are just not watching tv anymore, going to the movies, their attention spans are short or they just stream.
Sooooo tired of this victim mentality/race narrative. NOT EVERY "BLACK" show/movie cancelled is because of racism. Why is that so many people's default setting??? Avu DuVernay is the Queen of struggle movies (sorry not sorry) and The Color Purple didnt do good because people are tired (at least I am) of damn struggle movies and unwanted remakes. Why does "our stories" always equate to struggle movies (ie slavery, segregation, etc) in some of the people's minds?? Jordan Peele has successfully crossed over from comedy to horror and guess what, HE'S BLACK. I love Issae Rae but she is constantly pushing this damn narrative along with Avu DuVernay and so many other "black" filmmakers. So what is it when a "black" film is successful? Like an: ATL, Swarm, Abbott Elementary (which is highly overrated in my opinion)? Point is not EVERYTHING is about race
Lol the thing is y'all classify these movies as "struggle movies" because of the time period they're set in or because the cast is predominantly Black.. when the movie isn't even about struggle. People were calling The Color Purple a slave movie and it isn't even about slavery.

They don't start talkin about Issa until @3:25 ish. But, the networks have done it before. Getting a bunch of black TV shows so we can boost their numbers and then they cancel us once they are good. It was never a question about if we can pull numbers, it's just that they don't want and respect us so we gotta do our own thing. TBH hella years ago when OWN Network came out I thought it would happen, but we see how that turned out.
When will actors build there own realtionships with the network executives get Director/Writer Friends and License out there movie or TV show to Netflix or peacock and Continue to build there legacy
I didn’t care to watch Rap Sh*t. Didn’t align with the projects I liked from Issa. It was created to be more mainstream. I don’t think all her fans really cared for the show.
I think the black box offices would bring in a great return for black films if they simply released them on streaming platforms. I personally quit going to theaters years ago. It’s much more convenient to watch a movie at home and pause when needed. I feel like going to the movie theater is becoming a vintage experience like the drive-ins.
Yes, I definitely believe Taraji's drama over shadowed the movie...Maybe should have waitied until after. I don't recall her doing that with any other movie she was underpaid in..interesting🤔. Hope something positive comes of it though.
Multiple factors can affect the ratings/revenue i do think one of them is ppl are tired of remakes, the industry went all in on nostalgia and we're reheating shit that wouldnt translate today, recasting things for diversity quotas, and the very little that was new was of poor quality that goes for any movies "black" or "white" , I knew profit was number 1 in the execs head but green lighting trash bc it already has a name and banking on nostalgia but cancelling smtg else that has zero room to grow after a succesful season is backwards to me
I think people don't have money for cable or to go to the movies... The economy is terrible for us regular folks.. The cost of eggs, gas, and rent is ridiculous 🤷🏾♂️
Only in this reality.... Could we have Issa, saying that 'Our stories aren't a priority' Taraji saying that it's difficult to budget being in 'our stories' And she is talking about 'our' TOP stories Hidden Figures/Empire Whilst concurrently, simultaneously, at the same time There is a mega movement declaring that 'our' characters(not stories. Just the look of the characters) Are destroying 'storytelling' 🤔
To be a non-factor in 'storytelling's success As well as the paramount factor in 'storytelling's destruction Is somebody writing a book with these themes? I don't want a boring docu I want a 'what the h#ll?' fiction 🚶🏿
Once they made the 2 main characters on Rap Sh!t follow a white girl on stage I knew it was a wrap. Issa Rae is a great writer and producer. I feel that since she's 40 years old, its time to stop writing about being a City Girl and time to get on her grown a sexy.
the first season of Rap ish was really good. but the second season was meh. hope she’s able to get the third season released somewhere to finish the story
They are not invested in our stories at all, we know this and have known this forever, so going independent is good. Even this latest flood of awards being given to black actors seems like a smoke screen as they start shutting doors to black talent and writers.
Tyler Perry has preached this over and over again saying OWN YOUR STUFF…. Black celebrities get too carried away and don’t get together to build stuff and to OWN their stuff So when I see this stuff I only think they know the game, so…
Charlemagne mentioned ratings, which he is right about. However, let’s say the show caters to a black population then rating will look weak and networks will cancel. This goes back to us having ownership, and Issa was successful being independent which I understand why she would do that.
😂😂😂 we told yall we didn’t want the color purple remake I don’t know who thought that we be a good idea but people kept saying no we don’t want it it’s great the way it was same with coming to America it didn’t need a part two it didn’t
i feel what charlamange saying and i said the same thing but other people said white shows are allow a grace period that black shows are not. it could have been a sleeper hit. my take about the color purple alot of black people sick of trauma porn. some thought it was about slavery 🤷. get out was trauma but so entertaining at the same time .
Thats because it isnt race based its just a good story and well developed characters who happen to mostly be black. When people set out to tell “black stories” they are automatically alienating the vast majority of the population and are never going to be overly successful for an extended period
With the box office movies who you put in the movie really makes the difference. If they made a Color Purple 2 and Whoopi and Oprah were actors in it think about how much money that would bring in. People worship these 2 ladies! You remove these 2 legends then you lose profits. Some actors just have power to draw people!

@@IamnotJokicYea u got a point it’s business at the end of the day
Rap s*** was a horrible show
I think we need more films starring black ppl that aren't solely tied to our trauma - just tell a fckn story starring black ppl
In the late 90s we got a lot of classic black films that were just telling stories - Love & Basketball, The Wood, Best Man, Love Jones, Drumline... we had the floor to show we aren't a monolith and all we got were stories surrounding the trauma that is being black! The movies are supposed to be entertaining not a walk down struggle lane!
Color purple - has a specific following but personally the original traumatized me as a kid so I didn't wanna see it lol
Book of Clarence - was for a specific audience
Origin - I did see and it was the most profound movie I've seen... may be ever
Book of Clarence was great! It’s not for a specific audience imo. It’s a dramedy set in Jerusalem during the time of Jesus. A great story with an even greater message. Everyone should go see it!!!
@@iamladyblack1188 I'm sure it was good but its a period piece heavily influenced by religion... that is a specific audience lol
Purposefully being done to keep yall on the Dem plantation.....same reason mainstream rap promotes degeneracy... its propaganda.
FACTS.
The nationwide release of American Fiction was in December. Most theaters near me released it just last week with limited showtimes and others aren't playing it at all 🤨 People can't support what they can't watch.
This!
I wanted to see it but I’d have to drive over an hour away.
No ones going to the movies like that anymore. I feel like you have to have some sort of an amazing roll out to fill a theater now days.
A bunch of movies did really well this year! But I do agree because people are more picky these days because we have so much content.
I agree wholeheartedly
It’s still jumping
@@preciousjohnson1433 I’m late 30s and as a child you could go to the theaters and it would be 6 dollars or 10 bucks something reasonable. Now that I live in NYC the entire ordeal is extremely expensive. 3 people is 100 dollars or more for a movie that I can stream on all the platforms that I pay for also. HBO, Prime, Netflix, Hulu, Disney and I’m sure I’m forgetting another one that I pay for. So I’m more selective and I rather just go to a Broadway show if I’m honest
And even then people still stream or watch illegal uploads online.
Blaming Taraji for Color Purple's revenue is so wack and just doesn't make any sense at all. She spoke about unfair pay, everyone can relate to that and it's good she's shining a light on it too.
Because it’s Pam Grier, I completely understand
Dont blame the audience for not going to see The Color Purple, nobody asked for that. Why is it always black trauma movies anyway. We like action, thrillers, fantasy, and horror movies too Oprah.
And shows about drug dealers. Black folks seem to never tire of those drug dealer stories.
Going to a movie theater seems weird now. We pay for all these different streaming services but they expect people to also go to the movie theater to see a new movie. I'll wait until it goes on one of the services.
a lot of people still go to the movies, last year a ton of movies pretty much reached a billion dollars in box office
I knew the show biz was trash when
LoveCraft Country was canceled !!!
Damn right
I wish folks looked more into why it stopped. There was no more content. If they would've continued it without content it would've been like the last two seasons of game of thrones
this the oneeeeeee
I don’t believe that’s always the case (ratings). Love Craft was on of the biggest shows on HBOMax and they cancelled it.
The marketing is lacking. That is why there is low viewership. Better marketing strategies would give more attention to the black shows visibility.
The fact that black people make up only 14% of the American population plays a major part in why black centric tv shows and movies fail to do particularly well over time. People of all races just get bored pretty quickly of the same shit being regurgitated over and over again especially when its race based
Rap Sh*t did not have enough viewers. This is literally public knowledge
Pam Grier was in 1993 Doggy Dogg world video. So Snoop would've already met her before a movie in 2001
Pam looked amazing in that movie too
Ain't nobody going to the movies anymore and it's to many shows on all of these different streaming services to keep up.
A lot of people still go lol, u know how many great movies came out last year that had nearly a billion dollars in box office success
Plain and simple if your product or show isn't bringing in the money or sponsorship then what else can you do with it
This is literally proving their point, that these black themed shows aren’t profitable.
As long as racism persists there should be stories about black ppl dealing w/ racism .
A lot of these black movies forget to be good movies . When you market them as a black movie it turn a lot people away from it .
Exactly!! I agree, but I still showed my support. Also American Fiction is a movie about what you were just saying.
@@TamaraLindsay I'm glad you showed your support. American Fiction seems interesting. I might check it out. How is it?
@@THEVIDEOARBITRATOR it’s worth watching. It was fun to watch and there were funny moments
@@TamaraLindsay thanks
Yeah, it’s probably time for us to go to independent route, but I feel like as black people we have to come up with better stories. We keep remaking the same stories over and over again we gotta come up with something new. White people can’t relate to the black struggle gotta come up with different concepts I think I don’t know.
They don't put the same energy or finances behind our films... period!
She seems to be a bit of a one trick pony and not creative enough to to make shows that appeal to wider audiences hence why they are all getting cancelled because even black audiences get bored with them
Yet they steal our ideas did you know the halftime superbowl show was because of living color[a black show] they stole it
It's not just those. I went to see the beekeeper the weekend it came out. At like a 7:30 showing and the theatre was less than half full. Might just be where we are in time right now
Ticket sales have been down overall since the pandemic. Higher ticket prices combined with so many streaming options, and short theater windows, all contribute.
Beekeeper was a good movie…an eye opener re telemarketers & scammers
If shows make money they wouldn't be canceled..These rich folks care about money more than they care about race..
Big Facts! But for some reason we keep thinking its about something else.
Exactly...it's all about the bottom line...they will back whatever brings in the viewership or box-office
Astronomy Club on Netflix was one of the best shows that nobody watched
problem is the binge format on Netflix forces new shows to need to gain an audience fast. Otherwise it will get cancelled but its a self fulfilling prophecy because it makes people not want to start new shows if they fear it might just end up getting canceled.
Never even heard of this show ever at all until just now
I love that show! Sad it was only one season.
@@SoundsOfTheWild3 you just described me because I hesitate on starting many new shows because of that...because even when you watch the first season and think it's safe, they can just cancel it and move onto something else...Netflix are the biggest culprits doing this.
Never heard of the show - so that's another aspect. The promotion for a lot of shows is trash.
Who you don’t remember “Bones” 🤦🏾♂️
Taraji's complaints are not the reason it failed. no one was interested in a lesbian remake of a classic- it was an unnecessary movie.
It wasn't a lesbian remake. It was a musical remake. The author of the book is bisexual and so the book and the original movie had the same love triangle story between Shug Avery and Celie.
Ms Pam was one of them ones !!!! IYKYK.. Do your homework Pam Grier
"She belong to the streets" 😂
Remakes used to be one of the main things studios could bank on. People don't want to go to theaters to see an original story anymore, Book of Clarence being an example of that. (Movie is dope btw). The general audience typically has wanted to recognizable IP's like a Color Purple, Marvel & DC movies, etc. They'd rather watch original content on streaming services now. Which is fine, but still brings in less money than movie studios are use to, which gives them cause to pause on things now.
Book of Clarence wasn’t showing in Brooklyn! The whole borough I couldn’t find it smdh
Some of these shows were really pretty bad. I know our community feels we have to support every black entertainer, especially women, but the shows are not good and extremely predictable.
Black entertainers need to start their own power base
I feel like more of the budget needs to be put into marketing. Just like any movie we gotta get hype about it. None of these last few movies have I see in places that the black audience watches. Start a better conversation,
Akademiks is right . Breakfast club is now geared to an older crowd thru all these politics topics and guest. Charla is bringing his political ties slowly change the direction of the show
I haven’t been to the movies since 2018 BUT I made it out to see the book of Clarence ✊🏾✊🏾 I love it
Black networks and Tyler Perry exists for a reason. It will a break and we will be a self sufficient community.
2:25 designated place for him to Snoop😂😂😂 that was right
You can tell these two are out of the loop because we watched these shows faithfully just like we watched Lovecraft. If it’s not about something making us look negative, they will cancel it.
correct
Some of these theaters refuse to show these movies
Ratings are ratings and if the ratings are poor the show gets canceled whether it’s independent or not. People are just not watching tv anymore, going to the movies, their attention spans are short or they just stream.
Streaming and downloading that's the new way of technology.
I’m hearing/watching & I am so distracted by the clutter … maybe it’s just me
Book of Clarence wasnt really available for me. Only had showtimes for 3 days.
@@jas1565 I dont know who "y'all" is but "I" classify them as struggle films because they're all about blacks, wait for it, struggling and yes the cast is predominantly black because Im referring to, wait for it, "black" films genuis. And no one said the color purple was about slavery

Bones is one of my favorite low budget films lol gonna have to watch it now
Multiple factors can affect the ratings/revenue i do think one of them is ppl are tired of remakes, the industry went all in on nostalgia and we're reheating shit that wouldnt translate today, recasting things for diversity quotas, and the very little that was new was of poor quality that goes for any movies "black" or "white" , I knew profit was number 1 in the execs head but green lighting trash bc it already has a name and banking on nostalgia but cancelling smtg else that has zero room to grow after a succesful season is backwards to me
If book of Clearance was a tik tok reel it would have done way better.
If people arent watching networks cant sell ads its simple logic. Stop blaming things on race, black people dont support these ahows so blame them
I think people don't have money for cable or to go to the movies... The economy is terrible for us regular folks.. The cost of eggs, gas, and rent is ridiculous 🤷🏾♂️
Only in this reality....
Could we have Issa, saying that 'Our stories aren't a priority'
Taraji saying that it's difficult to budget being in 'our stories'
And she is talking about 'our' TOP stories Hidden Figures/Empire
Whilst concurrently, simultaneously, at the same time
There is a mega movement declaring that 'our' characters(not stories. Just the look of the characters)
Are destroying 'storytelling'
🤔
To be a non-factor in 'storytelling's success
As well as the paramount factor in 'storytelling's destruction

They are not invested in our stories at all, we know this and have known this forever, so going independent is good. Even this latest flood of awards being given to black actors seems like a smoke screen as they start shutting doors to black talent and writers.

Charla boi you always talking bout being a 80s baby but don’t know about Bones?!
Charlemagne mentioned ratings, which he is right about. However, let’s say the show caters to a black population then rating will look weak and networks will cancel. This goes back to us having ownership, and Issa was successful being independent which I understand why she would do that.
