I believe I've played it in the early 90's. I was obsessed with driving (I was too young to drive at the time) so I begged my dad for some coins. Shame that he never made it till I was old enough to drive a real car... It's nice that a three and a half decade old game can bring back lots of memories for me.
I played Outrun for the first time in Brighton when it first came to England I still have a go on the Switch. No home computer could run Out Run when it came out but the Switch runs it easy. For me Out Run gave a really great sense of summer and being free.
I was a teenager when Out Run came out and spent many a happy hour during the summers of the late 80s playing it. The graphics look a bit clunky now but were way ahead of anything else in the genre at the time, while clearly related to "Hang On" which was also popular. The selectable sound track on the radio was a great little idea. Way head of Pole Position, Monaco Grand Prix and any other driving game of the time. I got the Sega Master System port when it came out but while it was decent, 8-bit consoles just weren't capable of shifting those graphics around. One of the last arcade games that I played frequently, if I close my eyes there I am on Hayling Island in the summer of 1987 shovelling 10p's into the upright Out Run cabinet.
Once you notice that the image of the car flips depending on what direction your went (very noticeable on the ferrari prancing horse emblem) you won't be able to unsee it. I remember noticing that as a kid when playing this. Sorry if i ruined it for you now.
You knew you had mastered Out Run when you could finish each track option. A friend and I would flip a coin as the other drove deciding what track we had to choose at each split. Disparaging remarks would be made if we were unable to finish the 5 stages.
Interesting channels both big and little car, subbed both. Out Run was the game which made me absolutely want the Commodore 64 in the 80's and I still have Amiga 500 & Out Run in working condition. That's the game I always want to play when I have the Amiga set up for use.
You, Sir, are a Nerd. A Glorious Nerd. I know because I follow your other channel as well. I am also a Nerd, just not as Glorious as you, Sir. Thank you for your Glorious videos! :)
You're doing other videos now?! This has genuinely made my day! You need to check out the superb 'Cannonball' port of OutRun, which is the OutRun engine totally re-written so the game can run natively in widescreen, and at 60fps.
😎 I played it yesterday. I made myself a games machines out of a Raspberry Pi, an old 19" LCD and an old Xbox 360 controller. I can't get past level three though...
Yu Suzuki, the creator of SEGA's Out Run and of course the father of the father of all 3D open world games: Shenmue (father of GTA 3 to 5, Fallout, Witcher and soon Cyberpunk 2077). God bless, Revelation 21:4
"The soundtrack is similar in style to Latin and Caribbean music" - Yes, but have you heard of the Japanese band Casiopea? I'm convinced that Hiroshi Kawaguchi must have been a fan. Most of his music from this period sound like Casiopea. Listen to this: ruclips.net/video/r7jkrDBkMGI/видео.html
@@siddheshpillai3807 Most retro games are better left in our memories from the time. Playing them, for me, often spoils the memory because they are so crude compared to modern games but I'd still like to hear about the history. I'd have to disagree about Eminem though. His early work is timeless. I'm not fond of his later music but I suppose that's a bit like the games, newer stuff is fresher and therefore more interesting. Ems relevance is all about his early music, and for that he holds an eternal status as a rap god.

"Can I change a quid? I need some 10p's for the game..." Ah, the 80's. What a time to be alive! Subbed and a +1 for Mario Kart!
Duly noted!
I was addicted to this game at my local arcade. Loved chase Hq as well.
..chase hq ✓
Chase HQ was awesome!
I played this as much as I could. Which wasn't much. I always loved the racing games. Thanks.

I had this game, but it was called Redline, in which you was timed between points.
Great vid, loved it. Music was the best part of the game for me.

Not often I get the opportunity to see a video of 2 of my favourite topics together: cars and videogames
Ah outrun amazing game for the time, still holds up today for a nice retro game
Oh I really loved playing Out Run! Probably my favourite driving game on the Commodore 64 C pc that I owned in the 1980s.
Is it true that Ferrari have never officially released a convertible Testarossa though? they're all third party mods.
I like how its been 3 months and no one has liked your comment
I love your channel Larry. I'll give you a thumbs up 👍
Wat are ya doin' heer?
GG on 5'10" for Goal A! You should submit that to our speedrun leaderboard!

Best thing is you can buy it for very cheap and play it on Nintendo Switch. It is soooo nice to play it again... Recomended!

..i clocked this on Sega ..and Battle Out Run ..in the late 90s !!
Played the sega saturn port of this (best port imo) religiously. loved this and the later Daytona USA.

3:51 I remember playing on them 2 cabinets, the red seated ones. :)
...and on Amiga 500.
I remember playing that game way too many times in the student union arcade in college.
Playing this in the moving cabinet was amazing! The only problem was it always attracted a crowd...
You can run but you can’t hide. Electronics and cars. Win. Win. Thanks

You can get a game like this called Final Freeway today on iOS and Android.😊
This was great, Mario Kart next !
Good idea!
Don't forget POLE POSITION 😎
Cool vid..👍
Chase HQ for me, thouh outrun has always been cool.
Love the content, Polyphony Digital's Gran Turisimo series would be awesome too.
I wonder how this would have looked in Nintendo's Mode 7.
I had no idea you did this!!
At the time I was a POLE POSITION fan myself 👩🦱myself

Outrun set the benchmark other racers just felt clunky in comparison
0:29 Pause for vaporwave ちずギ
How about Sega Afterburner game?
*Interesting thought:* Has anyone driven the Turbo Outrun map in real life??
i hated car games against the clock ruined the fun
You NEED to do Gran Turismo. And +1 for Mariokart. Oh and Need for Speed Underground. All unicorn games for us millennials.
no just no

I played that on a phone
“The United States was too unsafe” yea alright. And also the us is too empty yet a large about of the game world is empty too
Had this on the 48k spectrum... It was bloody awful 😂so slow when the graphics built up, nothing like the arcade
The Amstrad CPC version was truly awful. No sound and badly playable. US Gold messed up!
