I've been watching videos from this channel almost daily for the past several weeks (I found it relatively recently) and this is the first instance I've seen of that sort of humor. I probably woke at least one neighbor with my laugh...
You left out that the overall cleanliness of Singapore’s waterways have revitalised the smooth coated otter population, which are now Singapore’s international rockstars.
I spent my teenage years cycling around the area. I remember the transition from salt to fresh water. The choppy waters under the Benjamin Sheares Bridge, with lots of sea snails on the rocks, the beaches along the Kallang River/Rochor Canal. The waters have stilled, the sea snails are gone, and the beaches have been covered up by grass.
I'm from the Philippines and I really love Singapore so much that I find it so pleasant and satisfying to read/watch their past, ongoing and future projects. Singapore is a country worthy of emulation. How I wish that Singapore, Malaysia & Indonesia will always cooperate for their mutual benefits. I want to see the updates on the latest or actual construction videos on the ongoing Tuas Megaport, MRT Tunnels, New Birdpark, Tekong Island expansion, Semakau Island, Changi Terminal 5, and most of all the Pedra Branca Island expansion which was announced to start by end of 2021. I would also love to see the Singapore expansion plans on the whole stretch of Johor Strait. How I love to see Denman Shoal be converted to an island and the Paya Lebar airport be converted as the "skyscraper capital" of Singapkre where it's tallest building can be located. In fact, the world's tallest building can be constructed there. Thanks.
It's not south Chinese sea rather South China Sea which was used to be called as Champa Sea (Bcos if its trade route to champa kingdom of Vietnam) and it was renamed as South China Sea by the English Bcos of its trading route to China.
I once missed the exit on the pan island highway, and within half an hour I was at this exit point again. Only then I realized I've circumvent this tiny pea sized island.

Excellent report! Thank you. I love Singapore and want it to succeed. But I must say....the government can't seem to resist tinkering, tinkering and tinkering with the market. Though ostensibly dedicated to free markets, it is a highly "dirigiste" in character....picking national champions, telling people where they can smoke, regulating who can live where, and generally spending its citizens' income on all kinds of projects. Of course, the taxpayers foot the bill for all this "management". Lee Kwan was able to hold the nation together through some turbulent times. I hope his successors will get out of the nation-building business and let the smart and industrious people of Singapore achieve their potential.

I live in Australia and I've heard of virtually no large scale infrastructure projects or investment in our industries, its quite sobering to see how intelligently Singapore is managing their future. We had a prime minister who wanted to tax more the powerful and rich mining companies during the mining boom, and the mining companies levied proaganda against him and he was ousted.
The most mind blowing fact when I visited Marina barrage was simply: Oh over time as it rained and other stuff , the water got less and less salty and eventually it became a fresh water reservoir

The main incentive for Singapore to recover every drop of rain that falls onto the small island's footprint (by damming all the rivers) is the constant threat of our northern neighbour extremist politicians to cut off our drinking water. It is really the great foresight of our early leaders and the works of our many early competent engineers that we have this huge reservoir reclaimed from a formerly badly polluted Singapore River. Lets hope the present generations are as capable. Do not be caught "with your pants down".
It's funny. It was their mistake to not only agree to the terms e.g. the low price, but also to turn down the price review back then. When Johor and Kedah had water crisis, it was Singapore who send their engineers and army personnel to set up water pumps there and also helped victims of the flood. Even Selangor, their most modern state, has water issues. But instead of focusing on actual problems, their clowns decide to find problems with other countries. Singapore has both NEWater and desalination technology to produce the same water that we sell back to Malaysia. They turn off the tap, it is more of their loss. Those clowns continue their political circus even during covid.

Nah, it's very unlikely that Malaysia will turn off the tap. In fact Johor need to buy part of those water back (treated la of course). Doesn't hurt to stay self-sufficient in case of emergency though.

Fun fact, the johor state supply raw water to Singapore. But Singapore supply cleaned water back to Johor at a much higher rate. Johor is dependent on Singapore for clean water while Singapore is dependent on Johor for raw water.
You have to ask Johor government why it is of much higher rates. The miss conception was already cleared few years back. You never bother to read the news or just acting blur?
In the early days when the barrage first commenced operations, the mismanagement of the barrage caused many floods within Singapore, most famously in orchard road. Before the barrage was built, Singapore has never had a flood since the flood elevation programme in the 80s. Obviously the floods were blamed on construction projects within the nation as can you imagine the massive litigation possibilities if the cause of those floods were brought to public attention.
Not really, the major factor is abnormal downpour(different from heavy downpour), just like what is happening in Europe now. Orchard road didnt magically start flooding after the barrage was built. Back in the days even before the 80s, it flooded, under abnormal downpour once in a while. The difference? Back then there wasnt social media so such incidents dont go viral. If the barrage was the reason, the geospatial analysis would've revealed that the flooding is concentrated in the south, but thats not the case. Even places like Sembawang Park, it flooded during the time Orchard flooded, and mind you, in areas like Sembawang, any impact from the barrage no matter how it is managed is minimal. What actually failed tho, was the solution that they attempted in orchard road. The automatic drains that opens up during flooding werent a success. It is simple, during abnormal downpour, some of the buildings in orchard road are lower than the street level itself so it actually aint rocket science that it leads to a flood. Those automatic drains should've been placed near the entrance of those buildings, not along the streets.
@@johnwig285 water goes to the lowest point, which is not necessarily the closest to the barrage. There are many heavy downpours in Singapore throughout the year, not only in the years just after the barrage was built.

A friend was out in the rain at a flood hotspot monitoring the situation when all of a sudden the flood level started receding at a fast rate. The rain was still pouring heavily at that point, therefore the only possible explanation was the barrage as only that could have caused the water level to drop so fast.

In the early days when the barrage first commenced operations, the mismanagement of the barrage caused many floods within Singapore, most famously in orchard road. Before the barrage was built, Singapore has never had a flood since the flood elevation programme in the 80s. Obviously the floods were blamed on construction projects within the nation as can you imagine the massive litigation possibilities if the cause of those floods were brought to public attention.
Not really, the major factor is abnormal downpour(different from heavy downpour), just like what is happening in Europe now. Orchard road didnt magically start flooding after the barrage was built. Back in the days even before the 80s, it flooded, under abnormal downpour once in a while. The difference? Back then there wasnt social media so such incidents dont go viral. If the barrage was the reason, the geospatial analysis would've revealed that the flooding is concentrated in the south, but thats not the case. Even places like Sembawang Park, it flooded during the time Orchard flooded, and mind you, in areas like Sembawang, any impact from the barrage no matter how it is managed is minimal. What actually failed tho, was the solution that they attempted in orchard road. The automatic drains that opens up during flooding werent a success. It is simple, during abnormal downpour, some of the buildings in orchard road are lower than the street level itself so it actually aint rocket science that it leads to a flood. Those automatic drains should've been placed near the entrance of those buildings, not along the streets.

@@johnwig285 water goes to the lowest point, which is not necessarily the closest to the barrage. There are many heavy downpours in Singapore throughout the year, not only in the years just after the barrage was built.
How did u find out about it?
@@eseetoh right after the barrage was built, there was a day when it rained hard. A friend was out in the rain at a flood hotspot monitoring the situation when all of a sudden the flood level started receding at a fast rate. The rain was still pouring heavily at that point, therefore the only possible explanation was the barrage as only that could have caused the water level to drop so fast.
