The Fountain was and remains Aronofsky's passion project, he still frequently talks about it being his most important film. It's a challenging work, with very uncommercial ideas and unrestrained, which is why it had such mixed reviews on release. A lot of people have it as their favourite film of all time tho so it is divisive.
i love it
PI is still my favorite film of Aronofsky. The element of gematria (the finding of hidden meaning via the numerical value of the Hebrew alphabet) mixing in the Chassidim, greedy wall street sharks (both are equally destructive, we find) and Max's own obsessions---a true original work, turns the head around!
this makes me want to watch them all again. i love his work so much.
Great explanation. I enjoy finding the use of his themes in each of the very different scenarios he creates in each film. I just saw mother! and really liked it. The elements are spot on. Whether or not I agree with what he's conveying with certain allegories, I still think he does of a brilliant job of delivering each element.
But, I can certainly understand how it would be disturbing to some. Definitely not for everyone.
Looking forward to seeing your video on mother!
great editing, great insights, keep it up! and thanks a bunch!
great work! really insightful :)
Although I disliked Mother! for various reasons (the performances were great though), it definitely fit the mold you described in this video and then some. Loved the supercut elements in this, can't believe I missed out on this one until now. - Thomas
Storytellers Thanks Thomas. It's definitely one where I minimized the analysis, and tried to convey more with the montage. And yes, mother! is like an OCD nightmare!
Would love too see something on Denis Villeneuve ! thanks for this mate!
Very well done sir.
Even thought I've seen all his films (except Pi), I can't believe I've never realized all of them are about obsession.
Maybe it's because they are all about such a variety of differnet topics and subjects.
Cannot wait for Mother.
Might even go against my hatred for the move theatre expereince to try and go see this one in theatres.
Pi's the key ;) I have a love/hate relationship with the cinema - but still see every new release there I can. What are your specific qualms?
People just suck. Talking, texting, seat kicking. The usual annoyances of any theatre.
Have more issues with the theatres themselves these days. Tend to sit at the front and go when it's not very busy. But I have problem screens across London. Projection/audio issue. Poor sound proofing, etc.
And to think cinema is dying
People talk, text, and kick seats in movie theaters? Since when?
Very interesting. I had seen Noah but never looked into his work. Good to see the common thread of his stuff.
Without a doubt The Fountain is his best.
Interesting connect , and next its obsession with food. again with a fresh style (aspect ratio & colours)
The wrestler is based on Jake the Snake, I just found out. I haven't seen Noah or pi. His soundtracks are great, and an important part of his movies.
Ok. The most important question. Why there's no RUclips subtitles on this video?
I wanna go back to being the man I was almost five years ago. That is why I want to watch aronofsky’s movies again!
Ps: you forgot to mention the part about how the stars were shown in The Fountain and Noah.
For a person with OCD, thanks
Sean Ramsdell Me too. "The way of the future."
I love all of Aronofsky's films (except Noah, which I never bothered to see) to pick a favourite is tough, but I think it would come down to either The Fountain or Requiem For A Dream followed by π.
I avoided Noah for some time then braved the storm. Its surprising and worth a look if you can suspend expectations.
David Sykes---I enjoyed NOAH very much...he had to do a ton of research for that one; the Torah narrative and even more daunting the Torah commentators, Midrash, etc---extremely well told and keeps you engaged whether you are a believer or not.

Although it is late, does anybody know the list of songs/background music included in this video?
Those are all from the sound track's of Pi, Requiem for a Dream, and The Fountain. I don't know about the song with the acoustic guitar though.
@@blah2115 i think the acoustic is from the wrestler
I love all his movies except for Noah.. i have no idea wth that shit was about
Noah's Ark
thank you sean
No problem
Based on jewish books
Aranofsky is very hit and miss with me although when he hits it is out of the park. I love so many of his films but then his religious toned films seem to fall flat like Noah and Mother. Even though I am an atheist I enjoy theistic subtext if it is done right but he seems to not have a good grasp on using this subject matter well.
Aronofsky's work for me, has dwindled in recent years, what once was a fresh approach to tackling these themes and issues of obsession, has become a stagnated attempt to shock views and create outrage.
Mother! Is a bad film, it's poorly shot and edited, the direction is lacking in several scenes and it feels generally low budget.
