The past wouldn't matter much if you can work your way to at least trying to fix all of it. Sure, some people wouldn't want to forgive wholeheartedly (because that's what humans are), but at least you tried to redeem yourself through your good deeds. That is much better than "good people" who did bad deeds just right before their death.

But they are not in any form of idolatry, and they still follow the laws Allah gave them, to the best of their ability. Bart D. Ehrman, professor of the history of religion in the United States and author of numerous books on Christian literature, wrote a book in 2005 entitled "Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why", in which he explains the conclusions drawn from textual criticism of the Bible concerning the myth of the "original manuscripts": "Not only do we not have the originals, we don't have the first copies of the originals, we don't even have copies of the copies of the originals, or even copies of the copies of the copies of the originals. What we have are copies made later, and even much later. In most cases, they are copies made many centuries later, and all these copies are different from each other, in thousands of places. As we will see later in this book, these copies differ from each other in so many places that we don't even know how many differences there are. It is perhaps easier to say: there are more differences between our manuscripts than there are words in the New Testament. Bart D. Ehrman in his book "The Construction of Jesus: The Sources of Christian Religion" tells us on page 154 entitled: "Does the New Testament contain forgeries? "Of the 27 Books in the New Testament, only eight were almost certainly written by those whose signatures they bear: the seven undisputed epistles of Paul (to the Romans, Corinthians 1 and 2, Galatians, Philippians, Thessalonians 1, and Philemon) and The Apocalypse of John (although it is not clear who this John was)." And on page 187: "This idea that the New Testament contains books written 'under false names' is common among scholars, and it is accepted in all the great institutions of learning in the West, it dominates all the great textbooks on the New Testament, in seminaries and theological institutes, and it is what pastors learn when they prepare for their ministry.

One of the main reasons Quran will never lend itself to historic-critic method is that every chapter of it is self contained and a non-linear rhetorical marvel. It has layers upon layers of meaning. Reductionism can never work with Quran because of this non-linear nature of Book. The written and covered time span is also only 23 years instead of Bible's 1500 years written time span (it covers 2000 years from Abraham's adventures to journey's of Apostles). The linguistic brilliance and poetical nature of Noble Quran and its preservation in original Arabic language, saved it from corruptions and made it highly memoizable.

Brother Paul salaam alaikum, i personally believe that the so called death of Jesus had no bearing whatsoever in salvation for humanity, past present nor future. If that were that case that it had some bearing in "the salvation of the world" then no atheists would exist and and including Jews, Muslims, idolaters would all be Christian for generations but that's not the case at all, it's completely different today and Islam being the fastest growing religion in the world. The following question to the statement of salvation for the world is the following. A faith that theory the centuries has grown absolutely intolerant of others including those who are assumed to have killed and crucified the Christian half man/half God which sounds very familiar to the pagan Greek and Roman beliefs, how can such religion have success of they forced their version of Christianity upon the masses, that's including Jews, Muslims, etc.
@@malhamaulkubra4437 I agree but I'd go a step further and say if Jesus was not crucified for sin because God loves creation but hates sin, then indeed "Christianity is dead".

@Jesus Christ Is Alive No. There is evidence saying he did not die. The witnesses are different. Some saw angels others did not. Jesus returned to his disciples who heared he died. He proved them wrong. They thought he was a spirit. What did he do to prove he was human? He said give me bread and fish. He ate. Spirits do not eat. He said he will give the sign of Jonah. He did. Jonah did not die inside the belly of the whale for 3 days and 3 nights. Jesus did not die for 3 days 3 nights and went to Heaven. It's all in the NT. Even the NT is against you
Professor Keith Ward have this to say: “It took the church hundreds of years to develop what we now think of as the doctrine of the Trinity.” Conclusion: A) None of the disciples baptized: “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” B) The formula that is quoted i.e. “Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” is never once referenced, not in any of the Gospels nor of Paul’s letters. C) Eusebius (260 - 339 CE) never once mentioned the formula, “Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” instead he only mentioned the name of “Jesus.” D) The Scholars quoted all agree that it was not part of the original text but an interpolation.
If the Bible was “corrupted,” was this BEFORE or AFTER Muhammad? If it was “corrupted “ BEFORE , why does God tell Muhammad to refer to a “corrupted “ Bible for guidance ? If AFTER, why do Muslims not accept the Bible since current translations are all based upon manuscripts that predate Muhammad?
First of all having many manuscripts doesn’t make it right. Hinduism is the oldest religion but we know it’s false. The Quran makes it very clear that the Torah and gospel has been corrupted and if ur talking about the verse where it says let the people of the gospel of judge… it’s not talking about the gospels of Mathew etc but only one gospel that was given to Jesus and the people of Jesus time. And when does it say go follow the Christians? The New Testament is in Greek and doesn’t date back to Jesus, only have from 4th century which is 400 years after Jesus. There is evidence that the bible has been corrupted and changed by humans to suit their agenda and claim it’s from God when in fact it’s not. The bible hasn’t been preserved
@@SalyAh22 1. Having many manuscripts DOES authenticate OUR Scriptures and their doctrines . Muslims love to throw this argument around as if we are not aware of it but the argument works in our favour since they all validate the deity of Christ , the Trinity , etc … 2. You have just contradicted the Quran and yourself by claiming the Torah WAS “corrupted.” According to the Quran, the Torah is the Word of God. The Quran also teaches that the Word of God is unalterable. Put together, the Torah CANNOT be “corrupted.” 3. Not that we need the endorsement of the Quran but the Quran AFFIRMS our Scriptures ; Sura 5:47 : Quran (Muhammad Sarwar translation) . “The followers of the Gospels (the New Testament) must judge according to what God has revealed in it. Those who do not judge by the laws of God are evil doers.” (Sura 5:47) It’s so ironic . We do not have the original manuscripts from the pen of the evangelists, nor do we have the originals of any of the New Testament books. What we do have are many handwritten copies in Greek made over a period of some one thousand four hundred years, between about 150 and the invention of printing. Often, but usually on points of detail, these copies differ from one another because of mistakes or changes by the copyists." What do we know about the New Testament? page 57, Bayard French editions, 2011
*VERY IMPORTANT EHRMAN QUOTE* Bruce Metzger, your mentor in textual criticism to whom this book is dedicated, has said that there is nothing in these variants of Scripture that challenges any essential Christian beliefs (e.g. the bodily resurrection of Jesus or the Trinity). Why do you believe these core tenets of Christian orthodoxy to be in jeopardy based on the scribal errors you discovered in the biblical manuscripts? “Bruce Metzger is one of the great scholars of modern times, and I dedicated the book to him because he was both my inspiration for going into textual criticism and the person who trained me in the field. And even though we may disagree on important religious questions-he is a firmly committed Christian and I am not-we are in complete agreement on a number of very important historical and textual questions. If he and I were put in a room and asked to hammer out a consensus statement on what we think the original text of the New Testament probably looked like, there would be very few points of disagreement-maybe one or two dozen places out of many thousands. *The position I argue for in Misquoting Jesus does not actually stand at odds with Prof. Metzger’s position that the essential Christian beliefs are not affected by textual variants in the manuscript tradition of the New Testament.* What he means by that (I think) is that even if one or two passages that are used to argue for a belief have different textual reading, there are still other passages that could be used to argue for the same belief. For the most part, I think that’s true. But I was looking at the question from a different angle. My question is not about traditional Christian beliefs, but about how to interpret passages of the Bible. And my point is that if you change what the words say, then you change what the passage means. Most textual variants (Prof. Metzger and I agree on this) have no bearing at all on what a passage means. But there are other textual variants (we agree on this as well) that are crucial to the meaning of a passage. And the theology of entire books of the New Testament are sometimes affected by the meaning of individual passages. From my point of view, the stakes are rather high: Does Luke’s Gospel teach a doctrine of atonement (that Christ’s death atones for sins)? Does John’s Gospel teach that Christ is the “unique God” himself? Is the doctrine of the Trinity ever explicitly stated in the New Testament? These and other key theological issues are at stake, depending on which textual variants you think are original and which you think are creations of early scribes who were modifying the text.” Bart Ehrman, Misquoting Jesus (New York: HarperSanFrancisco, 2005), 252-3, Emphasis added. Altough he doubts certain readings in certain books on certain issues. Christianity and its core doctrines are not affected. As holistically all of them are affirmed. As his professor and even greater textual scholar Bruce Metzger concludes as well. 😌

The American priest, biblical scholar, theologian and Christian exegete Raymond E. Brown [1928-1998 G] said: "About three thousand manuscripts of the Greek New Testament, copied between the second and seventeenth centuries, have been preserved (in whole or in part), to which must be added more than two thousand handwritten lectionaries containing sections (pericopes) of the New Testament arranged for liturgical reading since the seventh century. These witnesses to the NT text do not agree with each other on many points, but few of these differences are significant. No original autograph or manuscript of a New Testament book has been preserved; the differences occurred during the copying of the original. *Not all of them are the result of copyist errors; some are the result of deliberate changes.* The copyists in fact sometimes felt obliged to *improve* the Greek of the received text, to *modernize* the spelling, *add* explanatory phrases, *harmonize* the Gospels, and even *omit* some point which seemed doubtful. One might think that the earliest preserved copies (in whole or in part) of the Greek NT are the best guide to the originals; but this is not necessarily so." I look forward to your response. JazaAllah Khair your sister in Islam. Ma Shaa Allah
It is sad to see so much controversy over the Bible. It is a holy book teaching us how to treat other people how to live our lives in order to please God. It may have been inspired by the Holy spirit but it was written by men who are imperfect. Why not take the good pieces of which there are many. It's critics must examine their motives. Are they doing it to help people or for their own glory.
This is one of the many reasons why Allah SWT sent down the Qur'an to separate the truth from the false. It's the Criterion. Allahu Akbar! (God is the Greatest).
There are three things to note: First, when the experts talk about corruption, they are talking about the corruption of the books that we have today (From Matthew to Revelation, 27 books) and not of the books that have existed and are now gone. They do not speak of Muslim Torah, Zabur, and Injil, (fictitious) books that have disappeared. Second, experts come to conclusions of text corruption from comparisons of manuscripts existing today and not by revelation or infused science. Third, The difficulties (in the texts) identified in the manuscripts are corrected (Transmission, Corruption, and Restoration). Conclusion. Do not confuse the doctrine of falsification (tahrif) in Islam, (doctrine that relates to virtual books that never existed) and the work of experts who study real texts (Matthew to Revelation). Texts that did not come down from the sky. These are texts written by Christians to other Christians, in the first century of our era.
This is a false dichotomy; as though the text of the modern critical edition of the New Testament has nothing to do with Jesus' original teachings. On the contrary, the Gospels purport to record Jesus' own words. And if Jesus ever spoke the Injeel to his disciples (which Muslims claim he did), then any record of Jesus' words should logically contain a record of much of the Injeel as well. That's all a Muslim would need in order to overcome your objection. Moreover, if New Testament Gospel manuscripts have been corrupted in any way by emendations and interpolations, then any remnant of the Injeel (which those manuscripts likewise exemplify) would also be corrupt. In addition, New Testament textual critics do not work to "restore" the text of the Gospels. Most experts would say that any attempt to do so is a pipe-dream. Instead, scholars can only hope to reconstruct a 2nd/3rd century version of the New Testament (known as the Ausgangstext), and that's still 200 years removed from the original. Alternatively, it's not just the physical limitations of the manuscripts which hinder our efforts, but also our methodology. No known method exists for pinpointing an "original" text, which doesn't also fall prey to severe logical problems. Right now, scholars simply group text-types together and tentatively speculate about which ones might preserve earlier readings. Anything else leads to vicious circularity, as Bart Ehrman himself demonstrated when (in 1989) he obliterated Kurt Aland's long-standing and seemingly invincible approach to Biblical studies : "This at least seems to be the position assumed throughout [Aland's] discussion. MSS with the highest incidence of readings of this original text are placed in Category 1, as 'most useful for determining the original text', and those with fewer such readings in Category 2, etc. The reader will now detect a curious bit of circularity in this proceeding. MSS are placed in Category 1 because they are most helpful for determining the original text of the NT. How do we know? Because these are the texts that most frequently preserve the original text of the NT!" Ehrman. "A Problem of Textual Circularity" Biblica 70 (1989) p. 383

To be fair it isn't only those two groups the Quran criticises for taking rabbis and priests as lords. See 6:114, 25:30, 68:36-37,77:50. The Quran is a warning, not a book of stories to get smug over.
Brother Paul, I don't know if you have talked about the paraklētos before, but I guess you know what it means on ancient Greek! It has a story with the great pop of Spain in the past. I'm sure you have read about it before.
Are you telling me Paul that what was going on in the life of Mohammad at that time had no influence on the Quran? Of course it did. It was a book written in the Arabic world. This is why the Gospels are not all exactly the same because they were written by INDIVIDUAL people who spent time with Jesus who had their own experiences.
According to my Jerusalem Bible Mark 10v18 Jesus said "why do you call me good?". This isn't a denial, it's a question. If you said to someone "why do you think I'm a muslim?" then it doesn't mean that you are denying that you're a muslim.
@@BloggingTheology that isn't a denial that He is God. In fact it is perfectly valid to say that he was arguing that only God is good, you think that I am good, think about that because maybe the conclusion is that I am God.

"Of the 27 Books in the New Testament, only eight were almost certainly written by those whose signatures they bear: the seven undisputed epistles of Paul (to the Romans, Corinthians 1 and 2, Galatians, Philippians, Thessalonians 1, and Philemon) and The Apocalypse of John (although it is not clear who this John was)."
And on page 187: "This idea that the New Testament contains books written 'under false names' is common among scholars, and it is accepted in all the great institutions of learning in the West, it dominates all the great textbooks on the New Testament, in seminaries and theological institutes, and it is what pastors learn when they prepare for their ministry.
Yes, in Orthodox Christianity, once you become priest , they give another theological name! And they take this name a way again if the church removed you from that position for any error

Fascinating. I never knew there were a group of Christians who didn't believe Jesus died. He said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever has a treaty between himself and a people, then let him not violate the treaty nor try to change it until its time has passed, or , in retribution for a similar offense.'" He said: "So Mu'awiyah returned with the people."
[Abu 'Eisa said:] This Hadith is Hasan Sahih.
If Jesus did not die then Christianity is dead. It's that important.
@@malhamaulkubra4437 I agree but I'd go a step further and say if Jesus was not crucified for sin because God loves creation but hates sin, then indeed "Christianity is dead".
@Jesus Christ Is Alive We do not hate you. We feel for you. You see the OT is the book of the Jews. That Book and the Jews hate you as you are pagans according to the Jews and the OT. The OT hates you. You accept the OT but the OT rejects you.
@Jesus Christ Is Alive Jesus Christ is alive and we agree as Muslims as he never died in the first place. The Jews failed to kill him or crucify him but to them it appeared they won but they did not kill Jesus the Messenger of God rather Jesus was raised alive intact to the Heavens to return one day with the kingdom of God and rule the Earth from Jerusalem and then die and be buried in Medina next to Muhammad pbuh
Even the NT is against you
Professor Keith Ward have this to say:
“It took the church hundreds of years to develop what we now think of as the doctrine of the Trinity.”
Conclusion: A) None of the disciples baptized: “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” B) The formula that is quoted i.e.

@@SalyAh22
1. Having many manuscripts DOES authenticate OUR Scriptures and their doctrines . Muslims love to throw this argument around as if we are not aware of it but the argument works in our favour since they all validate the deity of Christ , the Trinity , etc …
2. You have just contradicted the Quran and yourself by claiming the Torah WAS “corrupted.”
According to the Quran, the Torah is the Word of God. The Quran also teaches that the Word of God is unalterable. Put together, the Torah CANNOT be “corrupted.”
3. Not that we need the endorsement of the Quran but the Quran AFFIRMS our Scriptures ;
Sura 5:47 : Quran (Muhammad Sarwar translation) .
“The followers of the Gospels (the New Testament) must judge according to what God has revealed in it. Those who do not judge by the laws of God are evil doers.” (Sura 5:47)
It’s so ironic . If the Quran is true then Islam is false since the Quran validates our Scriptures and the Scriptures refutes Islam .
Serious dilemma for Muslims.
Thank you for your reply
@@baalbuster9294 The Qur'an is referring to the original Injeel and Torah scriptures, not the Works of Matthew mark Luke John.
@@benharis1956
Your Quran is referring to the New Testament;
Sura 5:47 : Quran (Muhammad Sarwar translation) .
“The followers of the Gospels (the New Testament) must judge according to what God has revealed in it. Those who do not judge by the laws of God are evil doers.” (Sura 5:47)
The Quran acknowledges that our New Testament was already completed and we have the manuscripts to prove that . Meaning what the New Testament taught then, they teach now .
Therefore Muslims must accept what our New Testament teaches and reject Islam . Salvation is only available through Jesus Christ who died for our sins on the cross and rose again the third day for our justification.

We do not have the original manuscripts from the pen of the evangelists, nor do we have the originals of any of the New Testament books. What we do have are many handwritten copies in Greek made over a period of some one thousand four hundred years, between about 150 and the invention of printing. Often, but usually on points of detail, these copies differ from one another because of mistakes or changes by the copyists."

*VERY IMPORTANT EHRMAN QUOTE*
Bruce Metzger, your mentor in textual criticism to whom this book is dedicated, has said that there is nothing in these variants of Scripture that challenges any essential Christian beliefs (e.g. the bodily resurrection of Jesus or the Trinity).
Metzger’s position that the essential Christian beliefs are not affected by textual variants in the manuscript tradition of the New Testament.*
What he means by that (I think) is that even if one or two passages that are used to argue for a belief have different textual reading, there are still other passages that could be used to argue for the same belief.
These and other key theological issues are at stake, depending on which textual variants you think are original and which you think are creations of early scribes who were modifying the text.”
Bart Ehrman, Misquoting Jesus (New York: HarperSanFrancisco, 2005), 252-3, Emphasis added.
Altough he doubts certain readings in certain books on certain issues. Christianity and its core doctrines are not affected. As holistically all of them are affirmed. As his professor and even greater textual scholar Bruce Metzger concludes as well. 😌
🤔
Thanks for your wonderful observations. I'm no scholar so I appreciate learning more. God bless
@@johnbrzykcy3076 likewise man. Ehrman is someone that is used often by Muslims. But to be fair, sometimes he shows ttwo faces. The pop-atheist attitude and the scholarly attitude. The American priest, biblical scholar, theologian and Christian exegete Raymond E. Brown [1928-1998 G] said:
"About three thousand manuscripts of the Greek New Testament, copied between the second and seventeenth centuries, have been preserved (in whole or in part), to which must be added more than two thousand handwritten lectionaries containing sections (pericopes) of the New Testament arranged for liturgical reading since the seventh century. One might think that the earliest preserved copies (in whole or in part) of the Greek NT are the best guide to the originals; but this is not necessarily so."

If the Dajjal is talked about and references being one eyed and very large(USA- have you seen our currency) and that signs will be the anti-Christ with the rising of the “sun/son” from the west(please excuse my crude examples, but I hope you get my point) Would not this corruption of Christian scriptures be exactly what our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prophetically speaks about? The rising of the “sun/son” not being about the solar system but about the spread of the false doctrine of Jesus /Isa(PBUH) being the son of God and the spread of this in Christianity especially in the USA? I look forward to your response.

I really love the Book Review!
Is Dr. Ehrman a muslim?
No he is not. He is an agnostic.
excellent
It is sad to see so much controversy over the Bible. It is a holy book teaching us how to treat other people how to live our lives in order to please God. It may have been inspired by the Holy spirit but it was written by men who are imperfect. Why not take the good pieces of which there are many. It's critics must examine their motives. Are they doing it to help people or for their own glory.
This is one of the many reasons why Allah SWT sent down the Qur'an to separate the truth from the false. It's the Criterion. Allahu Akbar! (God is the Greatest).
There are three things to note:
First, when the experts talk about corruption, they are talking about the corruption of the books that we have today (From Matthew to Revelation, 27 books) and not of the books that have existed and are now gone.
Thanks for the clarification.
@@johnbrzykcy3076 For a better understanding of the reliability of the New Testament texts watch this video: ruclips.net/video/5slYSWUTNI8/видео.html
Anything else leads to vicious circularity, as Bart Ehrman himself demonstrated when (in 1989) he obliterated Kurt Aland's long-standing and seemingly invincible approach to Biblical studies :
"This at least seems to be the position assumed throughout [Aland's] discussion. 383

According to my Jerusalem Bible Mark 10v18 Jesus said "why do you call me good?". This isn't a denial, it's a question. If you said to someone "why do you think I'm a muslim?" then it doesn't mean that you are denying that you're a muslim.
He then says 'no one is good but God alone'. So he denies he is God.
