I'm simply amazed. Professor's Vermes views are so fresh, for me. And logical. Also learned some important facts (Pharisees views on resurrection...)
I'll have to listen again a couple of times and take notes.
This is so interesting. Many thanks. 👍🏽😘

@againstsuperstitions fv The truth always prevails and the good also always prevails over evil. Islam is the true religion of peace, truth, and utmost goodness, and it will prevail although the disbelievers and islamophobies dislike it.
(It is He, Allah SWT, who has sent His Messenger -Muhammad PBUH-with guidance and the religion of truth-Islam-to manifest it over all religion, although they who associate others with Allah dislike it)
Life is too short, Don’t waste all your precious time Throwing away all the golden opportunities that God is giving you. The HELL FIRE is not a joke and it is everlasting. Try your best to abandon this wrong Freeway and be kind to own soul. You are not harming or hurting anyone but yourself. Allah is the owner and protector and guardian of the universe. More and more people will join Islam because it is logical, peaceful and very simple.

@againstsuperstitions fv Human beings are gifted by their Maker with intelligence and the ability to think and reason; Human beings are gifted by their Maker to be able to perform research and read for themselves; detect the truth from the lies; good from evil. Human beings are also gifted by their Maker to know how to decipher and identify hatred from love; Negativity from positivity.
That is why there are 2.7 billion Muslims in the world and more and more people will join Islam because they will be prompted to research the truth for themselves because they are not going to blindly accept the false statements.
You also demonstrate severe hatred for your fellow human beings which is negative, toxic detrimental, and pathologic for your own well-being and your health.
May Allah heal our souls, guide us and remove all the hatred and replace it with inner peace and love for one another. May Allah forgive our sins and grant us mercy and accept us unto his kingdom. Ameen

      Hi
      You are certainly very intelligent.
I like your videos and you are quite clever.
Anyway, i have something to add.
I am NOT a born again Christian.
But here is my view of the bible.
The Bible does indeed contain some excellent teachings but it is certainly NOT a perfect book.
If the Bible is the perfect word of God then it should NOT contain any mistakes at all - even mistakes by men!
The very fact that the Bible contains inconsistencies means that is is NOT perfect.
The basic teachings of the texts are actually very good.
But the execution of those texts is flawed.
Here is one such example that Malcom X gave in the 1960's where he pointed out certain errors in the Bible.
Malcom X pointed out in the 1960's that in
Acts chapter 1 it states that Judas Iscariot died because he fell down on the ground and subsequently burst his intestinal organs open.
But in Matthew chapter 27 it states that Judas hanged himself.
Thats one of many mistakes in the Bible that Malcom X pointed out in the 1960's.
Evangelical Christians will spin "tailor made" explanations to account for inconsistencies in the Bible AFTER THE FACT.
The fact is that the inconsistencies are still in the Bible and still require extreme Verbal gymnastics to explain them.
Some Christians explain Bible inconsistencies by comparing them to differences in modern day crime scene testimonials.
This is stupid as the Bible deals with the most important things in history - such as the establishment of Gods hebrew laws and the latter Resurrection of Christ -
so it should be COMPLETELY 100% ACCURATE.
Crime scene testimonials have absolutely no bearing whatsoever on global world humanity so this particular analogy used by evangelical Christians is flawed.
Verbal gymnastics aka "apologetics" is exactly the methodology employed by evangelical Christians to explain their Bible.
Muslims employ the same type of Verbal gymnastics to defend stuff in their koran - so dont worry - its not just Christian folk.
In fact, Muslims are probably worse than Christians for this type of behaviour.
All so called "holy" religions have their own scholarly gymnasts to defend their so called
      "holy" books.
Research the Jewish talmud and you will see the disgusting things the Jews say about Jesus and Mary and gentiles in general.
But guess what, they also use their own clever brand of Verbal gymnastics to defend their so called "holy" books just like the Muslims and Christians do.
In fact, the Jews are probably even better at Verbal gymnastics than the Muslims and Christians, seeing as Jews are the real source of the so called "Abrahamic" religions.
Just like the so called "Abrahamic" religions,
all the other world religions will contain elements of truth mixed with fiction - this just comes with the whole territory.
People should just accept it and use with the "good stuff" in all these various religions in the world - and leave all the other things in these various religions that dont fit alone.
In fact, this applies to the Muslims and the Jews - aswell as Christians and indeed every other religion on the planet.
People should just Face it, all these religions are as bad as each other.
Religious folk should learn to Improve their social tactics and they will go alot further with the young generation today.

Muslims worship Dogs - but yet the great prophet Muhammad ordered Dogs to be killed as they were considered a health hazard and also their saliva is HARAM.
Orthodox Sunni Muslims do NOT worship Allah.
They worship Dogs which is why most Muslims households contain Dogs.
Yet they say that the prophet Muhammad was perfect.
So why do they not follow his example and abstain from worshipping Dogs.
Egypt has a massive stray Dog problem and most Muslim countries allow stray dogs to roam freely.
This is because Muslims actually worship dogs.
Prophet Muhammad was a good man.
But Sunni Orthodox Muslims are disgusting, filthy Dog worshippers.
The prophet Muhammad even had to order his new Muslim converts to wash their plates in dirt because it is known that the ancestors of ALL Muslims always ate of the same plate as Dogs.
Modern Muslims even look like Dogs.
But the prophet Muhammad had a beautiful appearance and he was a good man.
He was NOT like the modern Muslims today.
      He did NOT worship dogs.
Many hadiths prove that he ordered dogs to be killed as their saliva is HARAM.
      Google it.
      Prophet Muhammad was beautiful.
ALL Muslim countries have a massive stray
      Dog problem today
Modern Muslims even look like Dogs.

Rabbi Tovia Singer has some excellent videos on the subject. He points out that it would not make sense for the women or anyone else to be visiting the tomb several days after burial to anoint the body. Bodies were anointed prior to burial, never afterwards. In fact, John's Gospel records Martha and Mary's objection to rolling away the stone from their brother Lazarus' tomb by having them say "it has been three days, surely by now there will be a stink." So why would the women be visiting the tomb? After all, the Gospels are quite clear that nobody expected Jesus to rise from the dead.

Regarding your observation at 7:00 about how the disciples couldn't believe he was going to rise avter death even after Jesus showed them all His miracles. You gotta remember the Disciples constantly had that problem, no matter WHAT miracles Jesus performed. Even before He was crucified, they still kept falling asleep when Jesus went to pray before His death even though He told them to remain awake. If they believed all of what He said, then they wouldn't have panicked when He was captured. They wouldn't have denied His name when people confronted them about following Him, many other things. Throughout every gospel the Disciples struggled with faith the entire time, even when great miracles were performed RIGHT in front of them.

@@johnbrzykcy3076 Dear John, according to the "gospels", Jesus was very clear on many occasions about his death and resurrections. He spoke of that many times to the disciples. To say that the disciples did not understand is running away from the truth. That is why the writers of the gospels portrayed them as "stupid" to justify their not believing that he was "raised". Jesus appeared to his disciples in secret because he was still afraid of the Jews and that is why he wanted them to meet him in Galilee not in Jerusalem. Furthermore, the writers of the "gospels" never claimed that what they wrote was inspired by the Holy Ghost or God, yet all Christians claim that. Just read the first paragraph of Luke to realize that he is just writing a letter to someone he knew because he decided to write an account of what he heard like others who did before him. The resurrection is nothing but the secret appearance of Jesus to the disciples after being saved from the Jews. He was in hiding and that is why Mary thought he was the gardener because he was in disguise and that is why two of his disciples did not recognize him though they travelled with him. Thanks, Paul, for another interesting video.
Yes, you and Geza Vermes are right that the expectation of a bodily resurrection of the dead at the end of the age was evolutionary within Judaism, maybe commencing with Daniel 12: 1-4 (whenever that was written and that is a matter for another discussion). Hence it was a matter of dispute including in the First Century. But that that should be a surprise to you is strange, when the Jewish disagreement over the the doctrine is clearly found within the New Testament, e.g., Mark 12: 18-27, Acts 23: 1-11.
Also, unpicking the argument by Vermes that if Jesus clearly enunciated his coming death it should not have been a surprise to his disciples when it occurred. To be clear, there are three times in Mark, 8: 31-33, 9: 30-32 and 10: 32-34, where the prediction occurs. When it does, it is only given to the disciples, so they are hardly "drilled" such that this as an integral part of Jesus' message as they necessarily understood it.
Also, the passages portray great perplexity on the part of the disciples and as they were Jewish, that is hardly surprising - the first prediction occurs directly after 8: 27-30, where Simon Peter makes a statement that is a climax to the first half of the Gospel, and we finally get the answer that has been asked by the various characters whom Jesus has encountered, "Who is this man?". And Peter provides the answer, not John the Baptist, not Elijah, not one of the prophets (so no, not like another religion you can think of! :) ), but instead he is the Christ.
And unsurprisingly there is perplexity and continued confusion by the Jewish disciples at the initial and then subsequent predictions of his death. The Jewish expectation is that the Messiah, as God's appointed agent to inaugurate the kingdom of God, will abolish suffering and death. So the idea of a suffering Messiah is an oxymoron to them like saying "wet fire". Indeed, the idea of Jesus as a suffering servant and the reader's need to imitate that if required is part of the "Messianic secret" theme of Mark that propels the narrative after Peter's confession at Caesarea Philippi - even the disciples did not properly understand what the Kingdom of God can be like, but do you, the reader, truly recognise that Jesus is Messiah, what he did and what that entails for your potential suffering?
While on the balance of probabilities naturalistic critical literary and historical scholarship would always argue that all "successful" predictions, whether by Moses, Isaiah, Jesus or Muhammed were added later, there is still a good case to be made that those by Jesus predicting his death are authentic. After all, if you are wanting to safeguard the reputation of the Apostles as the guardians of the true message of Jesus, why add in stories that portray them as ignorant mistaken cowardly idiots who can't understand a clear prediction? Therefore it is not altogether realistic for Vermes to posit that, IF the predictions of Jesus' death and subsequent confusion of the disciples took place as purported in the Gospels, that in the shock of the arrest, trial and death of Jesus the disciples should have instead have nonchalantly been expected to sit back and just take it all in while some Nostradamus-like box ticking exercise took place. Not when we know how people react in shock and the cognitive and emotional dislocation that occurs at such a time,
I also thought that in your desire to stress the Gospels are 2nd generation or later, you've yet again been too zealous to separate out Paul and his first generation witness of I Corinthians 15:3 concerning the resurrection tradition, "3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance". Paul may have been independent of the Gospels and his revelation independent of the historical Jesus. Nonetheless he was not disconnected from the organic church. His writings indicate that, irrespective of whether Christ rose from the dead or not, Jesus' followers were sure believing it, almost certainly right from the first week after his death. Incidentally, I have terminal cancer and have planned that this will be the text at my funeral. Indeed, I'm intending to write the sermon and record it in advance for the day - and save my hard-worked minister some time! I digress... :) .
Also, I was unconvinced by Vermes' argument that somehow, after 50 days of reflection, based on a woman's tale of a resurrection that was dismissed by them at the time as "nonsense", that somehow out of nowhere the disciples get the courage on Pentecost to preach before a potentially-hostile crowd...what?! The same supposed ethical monotheism of Jesus to a group of pilgrims who were already gathered there to celebrate their ethical monotheism?! And when the disciples didn't necessarily believe Christ has risen from the dead?! There is a reason the Romans crucified potential Messiahs - it was a surefire way of proving they weren't the Messiah, thus providing a point of theological dissuasion and physical discouragement for the followers to continue. yet somehow Jesus was different. What was most likely the difference? Answer: they REALLY believed very early he had risen from the dead.
And again, even Vermes uses the term that you briefly brushed over - "the kingdom of God". In Jewish expectation that term is waaaaaaay more dynamic than just the ethical monotheism of Luke 24: 19, "He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the people". The kingdom of God, which was proclaimed by Jesus as imminent in his ministry (and the critical consensus is near adamant on that matter!) involves judgement, forgiveness of sins, the declaration of righteousness on the penitent and faithful, the end of the Devil's rebellion, the restoration of creation, the imparting of God's peace/shalom/salaam upon creation. And all those elements are in Paul's take on the Gospel. Plus the alleged ethical monotheism message still fails to account for why that provoked a charge of blasphemy by the Jewish authorities - and again, the consensus of critical scholarship is that Jesus was indeed charged with blasphemy. But what blasphemy? Mark's Gospel tells us,
"...Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”
“I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”" (Mark 14: 61a, 62)
So sorry, yet again, in underestimating the meaning of the Kingdom of God in the Synoptics, and trying to shoe horn Muhammad's truncated vision of Jesus Engil, you've failed IMHO to address adequately what critical scholarship can reveal about Christ's message.
But again, thank you for your efforts.

"Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; *but some doubted.* Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”"
Forget about Matthew 28 contradicting Luke and John in the terms of location (Matthew claim it was in Galilee, Luke and John claim it was in Jerusalem) .. what bring attention to me is the sentence "but some doubted" .. why do they doubt? if it was clearly Jesus and not someone else
also the rest of the verse look a lot similar to the Dajjal in the Islamic description .. specially the last sentence "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." .. a God claim that he is always with people "to" (or until) the end of age? what does that mean? the person speaking put an end to his presence with those people .. very suspicious
also what we know is that Jesus said in Matthew 15 that he was sent only to the lost Children of Israel .. the supposed Jesus contradict himself after "he rose"?

The Parable of the wicked Tenants
Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard in a land,He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place. When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit (Matthew 21:33-34)
.The tenants seized his servants;and land owner send so many servants to the land but they beat one, killed another, and stoned killed, Last of all, he sent his one and only son to them. "They will respect my son," he said (Matthew 21:35-37).
But when the tenants saw son, they said to each other, "This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance." So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
Then Jesus asked in , “What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.”
Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the scriptures:
‘The very stone which the builders rejected(son=Jesus) has become the corner stone, Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing the fruits of it.”[a]

1:Paul writes in 1st Corinthians 3:9a, "For we are God's fellow workers, you are God's field, you are God's building." Jesus being the Chief Cornerstone of our faith brings unity to the body of Christ.
      2:Acts 4:10-12

And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”

These people complaining about how Paul is somehow "failing" fail to realize it isn't Paul making these claims, rather it is the work of reputable biblical scholars that Paul nearly brings forth.
Vermes stated the bible is written to reflect the views of the authors, so of course it will make claims that christians will cling to and spout. What christians fail to understand is the holistic study of the bible and the church that is causing the veracity of the bible is brought to question, not biased cherrypicked verses - cherry picked not only by evangelicals but also church fathers.
Just because the bible says so doesn't automatically make the bible a historically reliable source.

The bible as it exists today is not the "gospel of Jesus" - he himself and his followers were Aramaic and didn't speak Greek, the followers being illterate fishermen from Galilee. The bible you have today is the work of unknown Greek, literate authors who had a Hellenistic view of Jesus. The history of the bible when studied shows these books aren't an accurate representation of what Jesus actually taught.
It is also the reason why Muhammad was sent by GOD/ALLAH, because the true teachings of Jesus were lost, and an evovled yet restorative global covenant (very similar to the judaic one) was to be established.

You see some did have the view he was resurrected. When he appeared they thought he was a spirit and not a man. Jesus with wisdom asked for bread and fish and ate with them as spirits do not eat. His sects followed his teachings and confirmed he did not die and he ascended. Other sects led by Paul rejected this. All of this before Islam came and sided with those sects

I was always bewildered how there is almost no mention of heaven and hell or ressurection in the old testament. It seems very weird to me how they didn't even recognize him when he was resurected and was speaking to them

There is heaven and resurrection in the Old Testament.
Heaven already in the first verse of the Bible, and in other places in the OT (e.g. see Job):
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Resurrection in the Old Testament. There are few examples:
      2 Kings 13: 20-21
20 Elisha died and was buried.
Now Moabite raiders used to enter the country every spring. 21 Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders; so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet.
Also, in 1 Kings 17: 17-24, prophet Elijah prayed to God and God resurrected a dead boy.
And in 2 Kings 4: 18-37, prophet Elisha prayed to God and God resurrected another boy that had died.

@@tombuddy100 the final state as per Revelation 21 and 22 is that heaven - the dwelling place of God - and earth the dwelling place of men becomes one and the same.
1 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (The Revelation, 21: 1-4).

Even before Islam sects disagreed with the death of Jesus. They rejected Jesus was God. They were there before Islam emerged. These are the sects the Quran has confirmed and they are the ones who accepted Islam in the Holy Land and they will be the uppermost from that moment until the last day.
