      That new Vtwin Harley is exquisite, but I've bought a lot lately and as they say Now for Something Completely Different. Getting an engine tomorrow, single cylinder, but BIG (quarter ton) and OLD (near 100 yrs) it will be fun.

    Tweaks to the vacuum engine include keeping the cylinders in place with silicone sealant (not the included screws which deform the cylinders) and silicone heatsink compound in all joins plus extra heatsinks from old pcs, to help heat dissipate (overheating will stop many vacuum engines after a short while). Also careful setting up and flat-cut finishing file to flat moving surfaces, adjusting the valve springs with spacers, washers in the mechanism rtc etc.

    cool little motors, when i was a kid we had a bunch of model airplane motors of different sizes that ran on a special fuel and had glow plugs we hooked up to a battery to get them started.

    • @ThomasPCGuruENGINES
      @ThomasPCGuruENGINES  Год назад +1

      "Glow" engines are now called "nitro" engines as the fuel has added nitro for bang. On my channel is my 60-year old "diesel" aircraft engine running. God I loved that as a kid...

      @@ThomasPCGuruENGINES my brother and i had motors sizes of .010, .020, .049 and a really big one that i think was .35 i think. we flew control line planes and free flight planes but as kids we could not afford r/c type planes and back in the early 60's were not very numerous with kids more like adults had them.

    #3 looks like a Harley "panhead" engine. My stepfather had a 1950 Harley with a panhead.

      Yep that's the prototype for this model. I'd love to have a 50-100cc vtwin powered minibike for fun in the park...that might happen in the next year. Chinese manufacturers are just realising how much us westerners love 45 degree v twin 4 strokes, hopefully one of the many minibike engine manufacturers will create a small v twin for us, eh? Actual Harley is a bit out of my price range and I'm an absolute beginner, probably safer hooning in my MX5

    I got a R90S engine and it's been a real pain, but after disesting and rebuilding it, it works relatively decent. I found running on lighter fluid really helps because of low compression normal petrol octane is too high for this, especially with the weak ignition. Finding lighter fluid is not easy in NZ now but some dairies still sell them.

    • @ThomasPCGuruENGINES
      @ThomasPCGuruENGINES  Год назад

      I have never heard anyone got the R90S to run decently, just frustration, so good on you. Is "Fuelite" lighter fluid too?? I had some "fuelite" from Bunnings which the engines ran happily on but gave it up because I read the octane is lower than petrol and this was when I only had hit-n-miss engines; I wanted biggest hit. (sidebar - It evaporates REALLY quickly. Perfect for evaporative carb - eg used it for their 1896 Benz project locally.)
      I like an engine to go from "works ok" to "works perfect" rather than "pig" to "pig in lipstick" Cison v twin I'm looking at you here. That's probably a bit harsh, but I'm a bit over it...

    • @simplefact4u
      @simplefact4u Год назад

      @@ThomasPCGuruENGINES I think they are the same thing, zippo and likes of it work really good on R90s. It's been so frustrating to say the least. But I think I made it to run as close as to the real engine after it's warmed up. Had to make major mods to get it work like that. I think the high octane fuel is useful when the intake crossing hot surfaces, or the cylinders have very high compression. As each engine they make is different in design, assembly and quality, it is matter of trial for fuel.

    Hello thomas, I purchased a knuckle head v twin apart, my question is what cylinder is number 1 , on a full size motor it’s the back cylinder, but I’ve noticed that everyone starts the engines counter clockwise, I also can not find timing marks, am I missing something, any help would greatly be appreciated. Thank you

    • @ThomasPCGuruENGINES
      @ThomasPCGuruENGINES  7 месяцев назад +1

      The ignition in these sparks both cylinders at the same time, but only one is compressed and fuelled. Then the other. Take a plug out or both and test it for spark a you turn the flywheel. there arent timing marks that ive found, use a toothpick in the sparkplug hole to feel tdc
