“C-can he read?!”
Gwen, darling, when faced with a horror beyond mortal comprehension, and when he’s demanding something from you in a threatening manner, perhaps his literacy level shouldn’t be your first concern. 😂
It's giving “you don't... Sound.. Russian?”

Yeah I recall thinking that's an unrealistically logical question to ask when you're in shock.
Is it weird I read this in Gertrude's voice?

You guys don’t understand how hilarious Mr Bonzos inclusion in the series is to me. Last year I bought the Mr Blobby hit vinyl at a charity shop for a laugh. The lyrics are the most insane, borderline facist sounding rally cry you’l find. Incidentally that same charity shop shut down a month later.
Several months later I had some friends come over to my house, for a laugh I gave a manic Shakespearian performance of the vinyls lyrics; they found it hysterical. Jump forwards a few extra months, one of those friends bestowed upon me a authentic 90’s Mr Blobby Badge; I Love It.
This month I knocked up a Jonathan Sims cosplay, with the gimmick that each badge on my bag strap would represent each of The Fears. I didn’t have a badge that fit the Slaughter motif; so next best thing I had to represent such carnage was of course, Mr Blobby. And now here we are a week later from my cosplays debut at a local comic con and we are graced by the Magnus-verse demonic take on Mr Blobby through Bonzo.
Well, even more demonic… this feels like the universes pay off to a very elaborate joke
You did what to the cosplay???
Hey not to make you worried, but you're really sounding like someone at the start of a statement, don't let Bonzo get to you
I hadn’t realized Mr Bonzo was based off a real character, I’m Canadian so I may be slightly out of the loop on that one

Which is a bit surprising to be honest. She really plays well the sarcastic fool
I am so used to the sound of the tape recorded that it took me a solid minute to realize and say "wait, WHAT?"
Same I was partway thru that segment and I was like "wait what recording noise played at the start of this section" went back it was the tape recorder click-click thunk and I was like ain't no way
I was DESPERATE for them to find it in the rubble, ah but I guess I have to wait.
there was a tape recorder!? I didnt even notice,
It was the _first_ thing I noticed. Then I realized they were in the Head Archivist/Jon's office and I was shook
Omg, I think I subconsciously picked up on this but I wouldn’t have consciously noticed if I hadn’t read your comment, so thank you :)

If my roommate was accused of separate murders he didn't do because of an inaccurate cosplay I'd be upset too

I dont think we have seen that happening before, only the end result.
Quite a few of the stories so far in TMP seen to have a "public influence" feel to them, the tattoo artist, the violin, the shop, maybe even the truck stop cafe.

I haven't seen anyone talk about this, but if you listen closely after Mr Bonzo eats the letter (via his well established not soft teeth) and runs out into the night presumably on a hit, you can hear a crash and a car alarm screech in the distance.
This could potentially be a next door neighbours car, but I doubt it because the script directions specifies Nigel lives in a mansion. Not exactly a lot of close by houses I would imagine.
I think it's more likely Bonzo crashed headfirst into Gwens car on his way out into the night.
So on top of the horrors Gwen has witnessed that night, she now has to explain to people why there is a dent in her car the shape of a beloved 90's mascot.

The "Get out of his house." Really hits just right. The way it's just so casual. Nigel really knows what his place is.
Thanks for the episode!
Did they just release a former archivist?
@@ethanstine426 Oh I'm sure it's probably something much worse than that.
No I disagree, there was nothing casual in his voice when he said that. He sounded terrified, terrified knowing that it is His house, that he cannot leave it, and when He comes back, if she is still in His house, something horrible _will_ happen. That was terror and disdain and dread all at once
@@hamburgerdog25 Eigh, I just heard dismissal. He sounded more resigned than anything to me. I bet this is long after that interview we heard at the start and he's had plenty of time to adjust to his terms of stay and his host. He may not like it but he's accepted it.
Even when he was telling her to not stare he didn't sound _sacred_ to me, just urgent that she listen, mainly because he probably didn't want to have to clean up the mess.
You can only live in fear for so long before you fear just burns out. I think Nigel is long past the point of having burnt his fear out.
John Magnus is Five Night at Freddy confirmed
**INHUMAN SCREECHING** HOLY SHIT, Y’ALL!!! What a cliffhanger to leave off on before the mid-season break!!! 🤩
I’ve got a LOT of thoughts!!!
1. MR. BONZO HAS ARRIVED AND MADE HIS DEBUT!!!! He was just as absolutely horrifying as I hoped, if not more so! 💚💚💚
2. Is Mr. Bonzo a supernatural hitman?!! Is the OIAR using him to put out hits on people?!! WHAT IS GOING ON?!!!!
3. I’m looking forward to seeing how Gwen will react, going forward. We still don’t know what awful thing got her a job with the OIAR (if there was such an event for her, as I suspect nepotism was also a factor in getting her hired, based on a few bits of dialogue), so we don’t know how much she even believed in the supernatural before this encounter. How traumatized will she be by this? Will she put up a front to hide it? (Probably) How will she confront Lena about this job, or about any potential future jobs?
4. Good to hear from Colin again! I was getting worried. He seems calmer, although still paranoid and secretive. Hopefully he’ll find something that will verify his suspicions, so the rest of the crew will start taking his concerns seriously. ☹️
5. FIELD TRIP TO THE MAGNUS INSTITUTE! LET’S GOOOOOO!!!
6. Interesting note: RedCanary in episode one specifically mentioned that it was weird that there was no sign of old paper in the ruins of the Archive, not even paper pulp. But Sam and Alice found mulched paper and crumbling books there. Interesting discrepancy… 🤔
7. Lots of rotting wood, worm tracks in the floor, and what smells like a cesspit in the basement? It seems like The Corruption might have been more successful in getting a foothold at the Institute in this universe. (Jane made her attempt in the original TMA timeline, but was thwarted early.) Maybe that’s why the Institute was burned down? Like when Arthur Nolan burned down Jane’s apartment building with the wasps nest in it? Just a thought.
8. Sam’s memories of his time at the Magnus Institute are vague and contextless? Kind of like Gerry’s memories? What were they doing to these kids? And what _wasn’t_ Sam chosen for?! “Why they picked us… why they didn’t pick me…” What does that mean, Sam?!! 👁️👁️
9. WHAT DID THEY UNLEASH FROM THE TRAPDOOR?! Sam dropped the key down below, when he fell, and then _something_ used the key to unlock the trapdoor! Why is it only listed as [ERROR] in the transcript?!! What is it?!!!
GAAAAHHHHHH!!! I cannot _WAIT_ until April!!! 😁
YEAHHH
(Also I SWEAR if that old man is still alive and was in the tunnels IN KILLING HIM MYSELF)
It sounded like it might have been Bonzo to me?
I think its the NotThem.
Its a different VA, so maybe its not Not-Sasha, but the worm tracks on the floor imply in my mind that Jane Prentis's attack on the institute happened in this universe, and Id bet that the NotThem infiltrated the institute just like in the og universe. If the Magnus Institute collapsed in this universe between NotThem being sealed at the end of season 2 and being released at the end of season 4, the NotThem would have been sealed under the institute ruins until just now when Sam busted that Manky Hole™ in the floor.
@@atomykebonpyreit is however important to note the lack of distorted audio on the recorder - an established effect for the Stranger. God I cannot stress how far back it brought me hearing a tape recorder click on to listen to a conversation inside that same old, dusty, worm-infested office. Altough I must say tma has rewired my brain so much at first I didn't even register the click, only later it dawned on me. I'm really curious about the implications of the tunels below the institute remaining in some form or another, not to mention the obvious part about a monster hiding there, but to think how smirke's architecture would act when left to it's own devices, like a garden without a gardener, without Leitner to live there and try to simplify the passages, or Jonah lurking inside the panopticon pulling the strings, I would not be suprised if the tunnels evolved into a conciouss enity of their own of sorts (assuming they weren't before), perhaps connected to what in the old system of tma would be called the spiral, as we have yet to understand how smirke's fourteen carries over to protocol, since

Statement of Jonah Magnus regarding Jonathan Sims, The Archivist. Statement begins.
I hope you’ll forgive me the self-indulgence, but I have worked so very hard for this moment, a culmination of two centuries of work. It’s rare that you get the chance to monologue through another, and you can’t tell me you’re not curious. Why does a man seek to destroy the world? It’s a simple enough answer: for immortality and power. Uninspired, perhaps, but - my god. The discovery, not simply of the dark and horrible reality of the world in which you live, but that you would quite willingly doom that world and confine the billions in it to an eternity of terror and suffering, all to ensure your own happiness, to place yourself beyond pain and death and fear.

@@kwititnow no I think Extinction has to do with lives being taken out on a mass scale without being able to stop it. No, Mr. Bonzo is the uncanny I believe. The way he described the rubber suit, that its huge and creepy looking, how the actors would act abruptly and sudden and aggressively so that the guests would feel genuine fear. Also that it is inanimate and yet it has it's own way of being real, that it can move and act at its own will and discretion, and that it is prone to abhorrent violence if and when provoked. Mr.Bonzo for Fortnite 🔥
It's so neat that I can't immediately tell what power each episode is about. Mr. Bonzo is both very stranger but also very slaughter! I think this mixing of fears is helping this new series stay fresh
We finally get some context for Mr. Bonzo and the origins: 'You've Got Buried' and Celia listening in makes me think that she's following up on her decision to look into the different cases using specific words and phrases keyed towards the Entities. But, if that's the case, is Mr. Bonzo connected to The Buried or The Stranger? Poor Nigel seems to lean in heavy on the 'trapped' angle, but Bonzo's a freaky-ass CLOWN COSTUME.
So, either The Buried in this alternate world has expanded 'feeling trapped' to include mascot suits or The Stranger stopped by for a prank and they both realized they actually like working together. Either way, oh f**k.
(also, was I the only one who began to picture the Persona jail from 5 when Nigel talked about SOS?)
I agree with @TheNitpickChick, I think The Corruption got into The Institute and thus it go torched to purge it. Of course, based on the sounds of crawling (worms moving the key around, perhaps?), I don't think they did a very good job.
....you know, I missed the tape recorder on the first go around because, I mean, you get used to hearing the thing throughout the (first) series, it becomes normal. And then you read the comments, you proceed to remember 'which' series you're in....
But this confirms that it is, in fact, The Eye/Beholding listening in on everything.
....Jon? Martin? Are you boys still there? 🥺
It's not just the Eye that listens to the tapes, a certain spider likes to as well. After all even though it can be interpreted as a worm, it also sounds like the scuttling of an arachnid.
@@CyberneticHamster108 In that case, double oh f**k 😨
Did the eye ever actually use the tapes for seeing? - I know for sure it used cameras and as little as a drawn eye to see but iirc then the spider was the one abusing the fact that the magnus institute used tapes (I only can assume that the web had something to do with the inability to put information about entities on digital devices or it was the eye/Jonah that caused that in order to force archivists to read statements aloud)

Ngl, seeing an episode titled "saturday night" I wasnt expecting A Mr Blobby themed casse.
SO IF THE TAPE AT THE END STOPPED RECORDING BY UTSELF DOES THAT MEAN THERES STILL SOMEONE CONTROLLING IT AKA ANNABELLE CAINE????
Lots of stuff to dissect in this episode! Mr Bonzo is probably aligned with The Stranger (clowns and forms of entertainment are both things we've seen in other Stranger monsters). Seems like the OIAR are finding suitable victims to appease Mr Bonzo to keep him mostly contained kinda like how Jon would feed on statements instead of people directly to keep his fear appetite in check.
The bit with Alice and Sam seems to be hinting at The Corruption with the mention of worms and worm tracks. This immediately made me think of Jane Prentiss' ritual to rot a hole through reality with her worms. Not to mention that based on the "old timey name block" which probably once said "Archivist" and the presence of the trap door (likely the same one that leads into the tunnels) this was certainly the office of this world's Archivist.

One of my favorite ideas about how the Magnus Institute was destroyed in this world was that all of the other powers dog pilled on it because they learned of how big a threat the eye would be.
Gotta admit, as someone who briefly worked in Morecambe a few years back, I was thrilled by the inclusion of "Bonzoland" and the economy crash. Great research there! In general, I really appreciate how northern Protocal is, makes us northerners feel seen :D
WORMS?
All the hairs on my arms are sticking up after that, esspecially the bit at the end. Live statements are both the worst and the best, and both for the same reason of them being absolutely terrifying
congrats gwen this is what you blackmailed your boss for! i hope gwen asks for hazard pay with her promotion…
On my second re-listen, I noticed that Berried sounds like Buried. He says 'you've been buried/berried'. Probably nothing to it but it piqued my interest.
MISTER BONZO MENTIONED
What in the pink and yellow polka dot Spiral!?
They’re using a Stranger creature as a hitman!
Hold the phone...did I just hear a tape recorder stop??? 😮
I think this statement confirms the core theme that seperates the universe of the Magnus Protocol from Archives, and that's the impact of human perceptions and ideas on the fears.
Smirke's 14 was a throughline in pretty much all of the statements back in TMA. Even with some of the more blended one's it's still clear which fears and vibes are intermingling. In Protocol however, things seem... less certain. Sure, you can sort of fit those classifications onto some of the cases so far, such as the violinist being reminiscent of the slaughter, or Ink5oul feeling very fleshy in terms of its body dysmorphia and mutilation. But then there's always elements that don't quite fit so nicely, as the tattoo's twisting patterns evoke the spiral. Needles could align with the hunt or slaughter, except serial killing lacks the chase integral to the hunt, and the slaughter is too fast for his torture of his victims. Voyeur feels like an explicit nod towards beholding, but films used to be the territory of the web (and it is on the *web* that Tom discovers the movie).
So here's my thought. In this episode we learn that Bonzo just started out as joke character in a costume. People couldn't enough of him. But when the Bonzo Butcher graced the tabloids, public perception turned on a dime. And that's when it seems that Mr. Bonzo took on a life of his own, with the internet developing his infamy even further. As far as we know, Bonzo did not spawn naturally as an aspect of the fears, nor is it a human avatar carrying out their will. It is a product of people's imagination of fear.
I don't think Smirke's classifications exist in this reality. Either he never came up with them or they faded into obscurity with the collapse of the Institute, but the fears are divided as cleanly as they were before. Now we the OIAR, which categorizes the cases far more specifically and bureaucratically than before. As a result, I believe that while the fears and their avatars/aspects or whatever are not as organized or centralized as they used to be, they are far more chaotic and mercurial. They may have more agency to do what they want, without being bound to sating specific preconceptions of aesthetics and methods. And I worry that when Sam uncovers just what the hell is going on, the fears will have more power thanks to his knowledge and belief.
...i know the sound of a spider when i hear it....and that was probably a not them
