Love this car.. one of my favourite cars to drive in manual, I hope Toyota doesn't seize production.. at least update the safety and emissions rather than killing off a legend.
Yeah, won't be killed off which is why Toyota Australia invested heavily to get the 79series up to 5star ANCAP (for mining and Govt), and added the DPF etc to make it Euro5 on emissions. Disappointing that the Troopie and Dual cab and 76 are not the same 5star Ancap, but historically they are a safe vehicle through sheer mass and front airbags.
I can see this lasting until 2025-2030. It's clearly worth their while to keep it selling here as long as possible. I can't see a full replacement coming until they're forced to electrify it. It's Toyota we're talking about here. Secondly, best not to tell people to engage 4wd on bitumen because this vehicle has a fully locking centre diff which locks as soon as you pull the transfer lever into H4.
The US has too much regulations that Toyota doesn't want to go through. Add to that the useless features every car reviewer in America cry about, like telescopic steering wheel adjustment to ass heater/massage for the driver.

It doesn't matter if you call it a snorkel or a raised air intake, Nissan for instance markets their snorkels as a "snorkel", but with adding "Essential for Dry and Dusty conditions" and a wading depth of 70cm, the same depth for the GU Patrol with and without snorkel. The LC7x wading depth is 70cm, even with a fully sealed snorkel it's 70cm because it's also limited by the axle and gearbox ventilation and exposure of electric parts and i would not recommend to go over the limits set by toyota without alteration of such parts. Just throwing a safari snorkel on it and calling it a day is not how it's done. Even on the safari snorkel website you will not find a single word about water crossings and higher wading dephts.

Being sensitized is truly real phenomenon in modern cars. It feels like you get into a mini vacuum chamber which isolate you so much that you numb to reality and do not interact with outside event as much as when wind is blowing stronger, so that you can predict what to do when you get to the destination or how engaging the environment is and so forth of reality nature. Another side to modern cars is that, because of safety, the belt line is required to be up in some threshold of sight but when you sit in vehicle which is already so tall and your windows are in your-waistline, it is enjoyable to have niceties actually - from old days of sun shade without active shading materials, due to windows overall down-low.
This is a great truck compared to the 8,000 lb 5.7 V8 land yacht they sell here in America. While more luxurious it’s also 90k and again, weighs EIGHT THOUSAND POUNDS.

We have a joke about this car saying that if there is a place where this car can't drive you to, it's means that u r a fake driver.lol
I want this car but I feel like it would be a crime not to drive outdoors. I love the old school style and size of the vehicle. Just want to drive it around the city haha
"Engineered for longevity and reliability" - with injectors that need replacing at $4000 a set every couple of years, a starter motor in the bottom of the V that acts as a swimming pool, $800 and 8 hours labour to replace, and such loose tolerances that by 100,000km you'll have so much sludge all through the intake that if you haven't already taken it apart to replace the starter motor, you'll have to now because it's starving for air.
Mine 2010 model, 190,000 kms. original injectors and starter motor. Took the intercooler off this week to see if I need to clean out the carbon....clean as the day it came out the factory. Go figure!
If they sold this at a lower price point by removing the extra luxuries, it would become a great car for the Philippines especially after Isuzu and Mitsubishi cancelled their Crosswind and Adventure models respectively.
Lachlan Tresham if you can refer me to another vehicle of similar capability and practicality that's not a Land Rover I will consider. For what I'm looking at, the 78 is the only rig I can consider. I need a large vehicle that I will use overland for driving around Australia then take to South Asia, up to Russia, across to the UK, round Europe and into the Middle East before heading back to Asia and then Australia. I will live out of the rig with a roof top conversion and do plenty of tracks the standard road travellers van can cannot. The troopy is the best option and nothing from my research comes close apart from a Land Rover which I'm not willing to learn to work with the engine as Toyota is more common and if any major issues come up, most mechanics around the world can work with a Toyota engine over a Land Rover engine. If you have any ideas of a rig that can compete with the practicality then please let me know. But until then, troopy is the way to go, and I want brand new as I will clock over 150k+ kms on my first tour before I go to North America then South America after I return adding another 150k+ kms to the clock. Toyota engine is good for longevity and reliability with good power and the size is what I need to live out of for all weather I will face.. Also to add, I have no major limitations of costs for modifications to the extent of 50ish grand. Diff correction, portals, clutch, engine/turbo work, suspension, wheels/tyres, electrics, roof conversion etc Plus a trailer to carry my quad and extra equipment. And still I think 80k is fair price for what you get. Not many other brands offer luxuries like lockers and a v8.... In Australia, other than Land Rover. Thanks👍🏻
@@riamriam6758 See the thing is if you put a rooftop tent on top of your trooper it won't help fuel economy and it makes it more top heavy. I don't hate the troopy I just think you could find something better to do it in Like a Dodge Ram 1500 for 80k.
Lachlan Tresham it's a ute tho. If I needed a ute I would go for a 79, ranger, or navara. People only go for troopy for the body style. And a Dodge Ram is worse for fuel economy than a troopy. Fuel and fuel prices is not an issue. Plus you can live inside a troopy and not a ram. Only choices I have really are defender with no back seats, 4x4 hiace. I'm not going for a ute because the weight and practicality of a canopy is no where near the benefits of the troopy with a roof top tent. I see where your coming from with the ram being a good vehicle and slowly taking over Aus but in this case the troopy still holds is value in the market of being "one of a kind" in the 4wheeling market, especially for the extreme Overlanding scene. Most Aussie overlanders who to offshore option for troop carriers because nothing can compete unless your wel up to date with modern Land Rover engines, which is slim to none. Toyota is far easier to deal with and work on compared to anything else in this class of vehicle and like I say, only a 4x4 hiace would be viable for consideration, just the off-road capabilities you cannot compare to the troopy... Appreciate the input though!! Anything helps.. Iv got 2 years before I leave so plenty of time to decide before I need a good year for modifications to be done.
Should come with a rear reverse camera and that rattling rear door on such a new vehicle is such a let down. Needs plenty of sound deadening an an auto transmission. If the Toyota Megacruiser can have a factory auto transmission, Toyota can surely do the same for the Troop Carrier.
Glad you like the vehicle, there is alot about the Troopy to love. The technically incorrect info in this review was just paiful to listen to. Get a subject matter expert if you don't know what you are describing.
The unsensitivity is to avoid rolling off the road cuz its a tall car n humans tend to forget that there not a sports car so while overtaking u wouldnt rollover the road at high speeds
@@gxxxbxxx2858 Aerodynamics play a huge role too the top part of the car is very high and the car isnt wide enough but these factors contribute to the cars instability driving very fast while thers a lot of air blowing towards you and you wanna be wreckles while overtaking in very tight space would lead to a dangerous accident
It is ok, however, Land Cruiser 105 with the 1FZ-FE engine is the best real Land Cruiser ever made. The 1VD 4.5 V8 diesel is relatively powerful. however not so reliable like the old 1HZ, which is weak of course, only 284Nm, but almost indestructible... 70 series is too narrow with the too high center of mass and the high rollover risk respectively, etc.
@@adamallen8863 It is a good engine for sure, however, for a round the world trip I would choose either 1FZ-FE or 1HZ... 1HD-FTE requires high quality oil and not bad fuel. In case of 1HZ you can use the fuel, taken from the tank of an ancient KAMAZ truck somewhere in Tajikistan without any problem...
I love this car and it’s other variants tops to Toyota for keeping this it’s a perfect example of if it ain’t broke don’t fix it I think they should bring some new models in to save it a bit like rugged hybrid system or electric. These are the perfect car for Australia still as they are durable and the environments that these cars go in it’s good not having all the extra bullshite in the car to go wrong if it gets submerged like heated seats etc Toyota is the only manufacture still producing a car for the aus and nz market like this, I wish Toyota would expand this to their markets and change the engine out there is no need for the thirsty v8 anymore really as I said above change to a 6 cup and a turbo variant with a possible hybrid drive train to push the boundaries in this cars segment I would assume an agricultural segment vehicle would gain certain con sessions in euro and us markets
I was looking at 2019 Toyota 4Runners here in the US and they seemed way too old fashioned when compared to other modern vehicles. It’s as if they were built 10 years ago and shipped over here as 2019 models or built recently with 10 year old parts. Seeing this makes me wonder if I’m right. Kinda like those cheap Android tablets for sale on Amazon. You wonder how they can make a profit selling tablets for under $30 but when they are opened up, they have manufactured dates indicating that they were assembled over 8 years ago.

We have a joke about this car saying that if there is a place where this car can't drive you to, it's means that u r a fake driver.lol
Give me a choice of a modern Ferrari or BMW, or the 70 series, i know what i will choose :D
I will choose the ferrari...sell it..buy this toyota..and travel with the rest of money:))
It’s not a flash back if it doesn’t have an ashtray
Ive got a 2018 76. love it.
I love those vehicles; however, it is unfortunate they don't come to the U.S.A. How much is something like overseas?
Thankyou for your help/video. I just bought one. Excellent review. Cheers. B-).
i agree the 70 series landcruiser have to be my favourites too, they look awesome and are just a great car, also the 90 series prado.
180 litre of tank capacity... You can go to the moon and back with that.
I want this car but I feel like it would be a crime not to drive outdoors. I love the old school style and size of the vehicle. Just want to drive it around the city haha
I am so angry we can't get these in Canada. The wife and I would love a wagon. I would spend all the money on one. Great review!!
If Toyota was able to sell these in the U.S. with the 1UR-FE they would sell ridiculously fast.
True ay, is that what happened on yours?
@Tony You've been lucky .
The Troopy doesnt have too many luxuries, compared to what?
Finally a Review! Only vehicle I'm looking to buy new and no one wants to review it. Thanks!
Don't waste your precious 80k. Choose wisely.
Diff correction, portals, clutch, engine/turbo work, suspension, wheels/tyres, electrics, roof conversion etc
Plus a trailer to carry my quad and extra equipment.
@@riamriam6758 Search up a Dodge Ram 1500 Rebel and look at how practical they are. They are the things that are taking over Australia.
Nooooo don’t stop making these Toyota,!!! I need like three more years before I can afford one.
Great review, fantastic and reliable 4wd. Just wish there were more tyre options for the 225/95 R16 size. And a 6 speed transmission would be nice.
I am AMAZED you can buy this vehicle in Australia. So jealous!
I would love to buy a 76 series over any other modern 4x4 with a lot of cosmetics
The unsensitivity is to avoid rolling off the road cuz its a tall car n humans tend to forget that there not a sports car so while overtaking u wouldnt rollover the road at high speeds
the centre of gravity is not that high though they can feel like your leaning too much, its just that the CoG is lower than the seat.
78 series is better then the 200 Series.
Без шуток - Машина моей мечты!
Nice review of my dream car!
Dream bigger lol
DPF sucks big time for off track driving in dry grass.
I just love this truck 😎👌♥️
Why can't we have these. Are the safety and emissions requirements that much more stringent in the US over Europe and Australia?
Looks like a well done restoration But a great vehicle to own
We need cars like this in America. I want a 2019 Jeep XJ Cherokee
Junk
Just spoke to Toyota dealership in the UK and they have never heard of the 79 series or any of the 70 series
Awesome review mate
Damn that would be a nice truck for the US. They should sell it here and I would for sure buy one.
Old school is best for the third world. All government vehicles in rural areas are landcruiser 70's. Hello from Papua New Guinea!
I think you should do a double cab 79 if you can.
this is a real men truck
Not according to Australians, they have a different definition of truck. It's more like, this is a real men 4WD.
Best engine is the 1hd fte 4.2 turbo diesel
@@adamallen8863 It is a good engine for sure, however, for a round the world trip I would choose either 1FZ-FE or 1HZ...
1HD-FTE requires high quality oil and not bad fuel. In case of 1HZ you can use the fuel, taken from the tank of an ancient KAMAZ truck somewhere in Tajikistan without any problem...
i think its because of fuel quality the new diesel engine needs a very good fuel
2H Here with 600,000km, 40 years old.
this guy shouldnt be taken seriously
They have so much room because they normally come with bench seats coming down vertically facing each other
See if you can find one on toyota Australia website or the 79 Series dual cab.
I wish I could afford this beast.
When I hit the lotto I'm flying a few to the states so my family and I can go wheeling together.

3:09 Can still order a new one as of Feb 28 2022 in Aus
Great review ,reminiscent of my 60 series .
