R.O.D THE TV- is a 26-episode TV anime series, animated by J.C.Staff and produced by Aniplex, directed by Koji Masunari and scripted by Hideyuki Kurata, about the adventures of three paper-manipulating sisters, Michelle, Maggie and Anita, who become the bodyguards of Nenene Sumiregawa, a famous Japanese writer. Featuring music by Taku Iwasaki, the series is a sequel to the Read or Die OVA. Its official title of R.O.D THE TV is a catch-all acronym referring to the inclusion of characters from both the Read or Die novels, manga and OVA and the Read or Dream manga, which revolves solely around the Paper Sisters. Promotional material for R.O.D THE TV implies that the show revolves around the three sisters of Read or Dream; however, Nenene Sumiregawa of Read or Die is also considered a protagonist.
R.O.D THE TV first premièred across Japan from October 1, 2003 through March 16, 2004 on pay-per-view satellite television platform SKY PerfecTV!. It was later aired across the terrestrial Fuji Television station from October 15, 2003 through March 18, 2004. The series spanned a total of 26 episodes, and was broadcast worldwide by the anime satellite television network, Animax.
The series was distributed on DVD in North America by Geneon, in seven discs; they finished releasing the series in summer 2005.

One of the things that made me fall in love with the ROD franchise was the first time I heard this theme on the OVA. They actually managed to out-John Barry the inestimable John Barry!

This song is the main reason I've never learned to drive. If I did, I'd drive around the city at 100 miles per hour listening to this song and trying to do insanely cool stunts, which would probably get me in huge trouble.

I still contend that R.O.D is the best English dub in existence. Kimberly Yates' performance of Yomiko is seriously one of the most gravitating English performances I've seen in an anime. It's so natural and believable.

+Omlás Give them credit, The Dub wasn't as bad as most of the ones from the year this series came out. In fact i agree with OP.. don't hate dub just because you're a sub hipster. Honestly I love Subs more then dubs most time.. BUT THIS DUB WAS EPICLY GOOD.. a couple lines of Maggie weirdness aside.

I remember when I first saw this and loving the Bond/classic spy theme music it had. So many anime crappy J-Pop for a soundtrack, but they decided to go hard with this!

Sometimes I skip the intro sequence because I've seen it a thousand times and I could always go listen to the song after watching the episodes/full series. But with this, I really wouldn't mind watching straight through, opening and fucking everything that comes afterwords. Oh my Goddess this is a magnificent OP. SERIOUSLY.
normally if i marathon watch animes i would skip the songs. but with read or die, i never skip, love the music and the opening sequence

I'd love for their to be a third series. Personally I really enjoyed ROD the TV through to the end even though I missed out on references as I only watched the OVAs afterwards.

And I thought Shiro Sagisu did that both in John Williams and Bernstein's face with his Evangelion and Macross soundtrack. Oh, well I guess then this theme takes the cake. Good enough for me. XD

I remember reading several years back about a possible third ROD series, other than Die or Dream. Guess it never happened. Shame. The series kinda fell apart in the second half, but I would like more. It was good, they could make a better one.
There is no background music that plays in the collective suicide scene of the analyzers found dead by Jocker's secretary (OVA Ep.3), it is actually atmospheric instrumental music. The album with fourteen tracks did not include this beautiful performance. I LOVE that sound, the feeling it expresses is so deep. By any chance is there a collection that has this specific track?

Ah, try bands like the "Buddy Rich big band", "Snarky Puppy," "Herbie Hancock" but it depends on your taste... Just venture out on the different bands and you'll find something

I know this is ROD, i'm just replying to the person 4 floors up from me, YOU pay attention.
I thought Rod kinda sorta sucked... R.O.D the tv was the first anime I ever saw and to this day remains my favorite with the amazing character development and plot... and like a year after i found the ova's and i watched them and i was like... well... it was ok, like nothing special like i felt towards the show, it was still enjoyable and it was cool seeing all yomikos stuff, but it just didn't have that sense of reality mixed amongst the chaos like the show did... Still good though, but R.O.D the tv reigns supreme for me forever as my favorite show :)

Eh, I'd actually disagree. I think that both series are intended to offer something the other doesn't. With the R.O.D. OVA it's interest is more in creating a spectacle, whereas the TV series is more character driven. Personally I prefer the spectacle of the OVA, since I found the TV series' storyline to border on nonsense at times. But both are a good time.
everyone is entitled to their opinions of course, but just remember that the OVA came out first before the series. if it were not for the success of the OVA and the manga, we wouldn't have gotten the anime series.
