Please be assured that our physiologists will always try to make the process of getting an ECG as comfortable and stress-free as possible. We aim to minimise the need for the patient undressing whenever we can and often conduct the test by simply lifting the shirt up if it is loose or providing towels for coverage.
We recognise that the ECG stickers may be intimidating for some of our patients. These stickers are necessary for the test because the conduction gel on the back enables the machine to detect and record the heart’s electrical activity. Fortunately, removal of the stickers is quick and easy. Having trialled a range of stickers in the past, we currently use two types which we feel are most appropriate for children. We also use adhesive remover wipes for patients with sensitive skin or sensory issues.
