OK, maybe I'm just an ignorant old geek, but I never heard this before, and it is pretty awesome. I didn't even catch how awesome this song was the first time I heard the Dylan album. Then, a few decades later, I heard Patti Smith do it and realized what it was. Now, another decade later, I'm hearing this version and...uh...wow..
Frank Black should perform this at the Kennedy Center Honors with a full band, horn section and gospel choir on backing vocals. Wouldn't that be something to witness.
Jesuits. I really have no idea but I can never pass on a straightline. It's a psychological/emotional tic which has gotten me into trouble on numerous occasions in my many years. :)
@@StephenAndrew777 They are now. Look back into their history and early conflicts with the Dominicans and their insitance on scientific learning you'll see they were very revolutionary and instigators for somewhat unwelcome and radical change. Also look further into their inroads into Spain and the work they did with the conquistadors in South America, you will see an ugly chapter of the faction's history I'm sure they wish everyone would forget. For many centuries the Church looked upon the Jesuits as militaries looked upon special forces units. Highly trained personnel made up of the very best physical, intellectual, and spiritual recruits they could get to pass the training. Mostly intellectual. And you didn't fuck with em cuz they weren't afraid to crack you in the head if you gave them lip. My sister went to a Catholic high school and her buddy Larry Donahoe found that out when Father Denehy had enough of his shit & picked him up by his shirt (clean off the ground - Larry had 5 inches & God knows how many pounds on the good Father) picked him clean up & slammed him into the lockers. This was 1970 so basically it's what Larry's parents were paying for. Lol. Not the lawsuits that you'd get today.... Anyway. Jesuits always have been something of a radical arm of the Catholic Church. At least the ones I've known personally and the history of which I'm aware.
habe nie verstanden, weshalb Dylan diesen klasse Song einfach nicht live spielte und somit ausbaute. So viel Potential, einer seiner stärksten Songs und lief absolut underrated.
Nah this version is not that good, seems like you guys picked a song that was not within your range. It isn't terrible but there is no confidence in this recording.
Are you crazy😀i know its your opinion but i think Dylans version is better but i have to say this one comes very close it may be as good but i wouldn't say its far better, someone like Dylan comes around once every hundred years id say.Patti Smith does a good version too👍

Street Legal is a very underrated album IMO
@@MrBriller probably my fav Bob Album.
Love this version. The guitar sound has always reminded me of that on Neil Young’s “Powderfinger”. Epic.
Frank Black + Bob Dylan = AWESOME

When I'm president you'll see that happen
Brilliant version of the song.On the four track bonus CD with the Frank Black And The Catholics album. All four tracks are ace.

You are a prince among men. Thank you.
Absolutely my favorite version. Sorry, Dylan. And thanks for writing this timeless classic.
What album is this from? I remember listening to this song and a bunch of others on a copied mixtape but have never been able to find those songs.
What is this scrap of sassafras, eh Sisyphus?
🐇

Awesome, thanks. Any chance you have their version of "Better Things" rolling around your collection somewhere?
Great cover...

@@dank8865 I don't get how a Jesuit is rogue. That's just a regular faction of the Catholic Church.

Who died?
I AGREE KIM DEAL WOULD BE AMAZING ON BACKING VOCALS FOR THIS
Or Paz Lenchantin even.
Yes on both! Though i have a soft spot for Kim.

Great Great Frank Black....

Sadly no.
I'd rather hear the picked do it
buena version me gusta
No dislikes says it all really.
RUclips no to longer displays the number of dislikes, but I don't think there could be many. This is a great cover of a classic song.
Gaslight anthems cover I prefer
I can't be the only only one who thinks this would have been amazing as a pixies song with Kim Deal doing the backing vocals...
classic era frank. dude was in a songwriting groove.
He may have been in a songwriting groove, but Bob Dylan actually wrote the song. :-)

By far the best version of the song - far better and emotional than the original.
