    I absolutely love Aurora's singing voice, it's so much different from all of the other princesses' voices.

    i think Sleeping beauty dresses is pink now is because Cinderella's iconic dress is blue. So for marketing reasons they all have their signature color. love your channel

      I was thinking the exact same thing.
      Also, why is cinderella's dress blue anyway? wasn't white/silver in the movie?

    what stands out to me about Sleeping Beauty is how well some of the humor holds up! It has some really funny scenes

  • @ShoshanaMegan

    The thing that has always stood out to me about Sleeping Beauty was how true in some respects it stayed to the history of which it is based in. As an amateur historian with most of my knowledge residing in medieval and Renaissance Europe, I can with a lot of certainty say that Sleeping Beauty was one of the films that started my love of history, it even looks like some art that came out of medieval England! It might not be perfect, but it certainly stuck to its guns and gave us a beautiful film that still holds up to this day! And perhaps a fun film for the next Down to Disness might be Robin Hood! Keep it up with the great work, I love this series!

    Sleeping Beauty has always been my favorite Disney Movie. It has to do with the music and the dancing and because even at a very young age without really understanding why I loved stories about medieval Europe. As an adult I love the art style and the history of it. Also, just as a side note, her dress is blue for like 98% of the time it is seen on screen. Why the pink dress? Why?
    I did hear that they started dressing her in pink so that she wouldn't be confused with Cinderella (who wears blue but should wear silver or grey because her dress is definitely not blue).

    • @mirandaperry1889
      @mirandaperry1889 9 лет назад +4

      That's exactly what I think about the dress! It's so annoying because the blue is just so much prettier on her and really doesn't look like Cinderella at all, the styles of the dress alone are so different. And Ariel has a pink dress she walks around in so why does it matter? I just hope to see her in her blue dress again sometime. I was hoping they would bring it back this year for the Diamond Celebration since everything is blue.

    • @jimkilbane5180
      @jimkilbane5180 5 лет назад +2

      Lyn S: Thank you for pointing out Cinderella's dress is SILVER in the movie. Disney should make it Silver in the park as well for the costumed character and give the blue color gown back to Aurora!

  • @claytonica23

    I love the aesthetic of Sleeping Beauty, and the music (mostly cause it's derived from the Tchaikovsky Sleeping Beauty ballet score). It's just so rich and gorgeous. As a music nerd I would love to see you talk about Fantasia if you like it! I know it's kind of a polarizing movie but I'm a big fan

  • @becka_little
    @becka_little 9 лет назад +4

    I love Sleeping Beauty because I think Maleficent is one of the best Disney villains, and Prince Phillip is one of the best princes! I also love Aurora as a princess, I think she's one of the prettiest! I went to Disney World when I was little and had a half an hour long chat with Aurora at one of the parks because no one else was waiting to see her and I loved her so much!

    • @DaveLH
      @DaveLH 5 лет назад

      I always felt for Maleficent because it WAS rude to exclude her from the christening... And then to rub salt into the wound by saying, "You weren't wanted!" (Way to go, Merryweather -- This whole mess is YOUR fault!) ... I'm glad they made that live-action version that casts Maleficent in a more positive light.
      And she's the only person ever to get away with using the word "hell" in a Disney movie!

      I like during the curse part when everything is tinted green. The music in the background is literally calling Aurora by name.
      Purple would've been cool too. I know the parks have done a purple dress for Aurora during the holidays at WDW in the past. Not sure on the year tho maybe 2008 or so.

    of course I'd love to see you cover little mermaid and Mulan. but since this series is about pop culture impact I think some of the flops might be in order. disney has been shaped as much by its failures as its successes so how about black cauldron or great mouse detective? neither one did well but both shaped the way disney movies were made afterword.

    Yay, I'm always stoked to see a Down to Disness video! The thing that always stuck with me about Sleeping Beauty was Maleficent. She absolutely scared the bejeebers out of me as a child (seriously, there were actual nightmares that I still remember) and in all honesty still freaks me out now. Also, 'Once Upon a Dream' is still one of my favorite Disney songs. And Merryweather is one of my all time favorite Disney characters! There's so much to love about this movie.

    I love the art in Sleeping Beauty, the fact that she has 3 moms (um, 4 if you count...her mom), the fact that they reworked the story so that she meets her Prince *before* he kisses her, & the fact that her castle was based on one of the ones designed by King Ludwig II, who is such an interesting historical figure.

    Sleeping beauty has been my favourite Disney movie and maybe even my favourite animated movie! I will have to agree that film is visually stunning, the characters are all so different in their own ways! I'm still undecided about what colour her dress should be! Reasons to love Sleeping Beauty:
    1. Maleficent
    2. The medieval-ness of it. prince Philip slaying a dragon, the historical fashions, angular artwork, it looks like the art style of the late Middle Ages
    3. Skumps! Skumps! Skuuuuuumps!!!

    Loved this one! Aurora has always been one of my favorites. My usual counterpoint to the whole only 18 lines thing is yes, but it's 18 lines of pure sass. She has way more personality than the previous princesses (when she isn't under the sleeping spell).I would love to see one on The Aristocats!

    I think this comment might be a little late but what I really love the most about this movie is that the music is taken from Tchaikovsky's sleeping beauty music for ballet, amazing music he wrote with the help of coreographer Petipa. They changed it a little but its amazing how they did it.

    I'm super late on watching this but in case you still were wondering about Aurora's parks dress, I was told it is because each princess is supposed to have a "colour palette"/uniquely coloured dress. This is apparently why Ariel is in a teal dress when she is on legs-- But that doesn't make a ton of sense since Jasmine is also teal. But if you look at all the others, none of them really have any overlapping solid colours. I think she is in pink now to prevent anyone from mixing her up with Cinderella, who also meets in blue. (:

    One of my favorites ever! So visually outstanding. I love the colors and the details in the backgrounds. I love gothic architecture and the castles really capture that style. Every time I watch it I feel like I notice something new and I've seen it so many times. Aurora is absolutely gorgeous. I love the style and movement of her hair and outfits. So much detail and skill was put into this movie ( and money). It's really a shame that it's considered a box office fail cause it's really a work of art.
    I do find it interesting that some of my favorite Disney females are ones that don't really have too many lines in their movies. Aurora is the princess with the least lines, Ariel loses her voice for half her movie and Tinkerbell doesn't talk at all in Peter Pan. I guess I must like them because visual they express so much with pantomime/ gestures and facial expression. I also find it interesting that Marc Davis worked on Tink, Aurora and Maleficent.

It's the one I watched most as a kid so it has nostalgic value, it reminds me of my closest Disney Park, Disneyland Paris, where the castle and the area around it is themed after Sleeping Beauty, and last but not least I love the music and the artistic style, which is both unique and gorgeous. Aurora might not have much to say or do in the movie, but man do I want her hair and wardrobe! And let's not forget the kick-ass fairies and the most badass Disney villain ever! I knew I loved this movie but it's only when I actually write it down that I realize how much I love it and why I love it so much :)

    Down to Disness - Tangled!
    I've always wondered about Mother Gothel's alternate end. Since she looked young falling down the tower, instead of old and wrinkly as she did before she fell. :D

    I always love these so much! I love Sleeping Beauty for similar reasons to you. It reminds me of the parks and the animation is unique and stunning. I got the diamond edition on blu-ray and I can't get over how good it looks. I think you should do Lion King next! Thanks for the great video as always Sarah!!!

    Can you do Song of the South or Bedknobs and Broomsticks? I also think Elliot's Dragon would be awesome.

    Your Down to Disness videos are my favorite thing on the internet! I love them and you so much!!! You should do a Beauty and the Beast one or The Hunchback of Notre Dame (a lot of people don't like it but it's one of my favorites) :)
