  • Automatic targets are fun! Check out the new auto shooting targets. A better pop up automatic targets for shooting that we have designed and built. Wonder what to use a wiper motor for? This was an easy auto shooting gallery pop-up target project that took way too long to complete. This motorized auto resetting target sure makes things easier on the range and beats walking down range all the time to reset your targets. The construction materials included a bunch of 1/4" steel plate, some 18 gauge steel plate for the cams, a couple of 3' steel rods, some 1/4" music wire for torsion springs (see video on how they were made), a few fittings and a windshield wiper motor. All of these things are readily available. The price of steel has definitely gone up but this project was still very reasonable in cost with all things considered.
This was designed and built by me and is not a knockoff of any other design that I am aware of, however, motorized pop up targets are not a "new concept".
This is just another project that you can build with a wiper motor!

This target is pretty compact but holy cow is it heavy! The 1/4" steel construction makes it really beefy. As a target and lead trap it is exactly what is needed! -Shane

I would love to get some plans for this. Ever consider using a… I don’t know, something that has ducks or something that reset once going around. Thinking a slowed down belt sander with ducks/whatever target attached that belt sander which resets once coming back up.
    Awesome project

      plairofpires,
a belt sander or slow conveyor belt is pretty commonly used with plinking targets they do require line voltage though and that can be a problem in remote spots.
I do like wiper motors because they are slow moving (relatively speaking) right out of the box and 12 volts!
But... yep! there are many ways to shoot the ducks!
LEt us know what you come up with!

Great design. Can you make a vid on how to make it or show the inner workings of it.
